Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino

We chose this hotel because we got some free nights with points my husband had. It was our first trip to Aruba and we loved everything about it. We didn't feel we missed out not being near the High arise hotels. The downtown area is much less crowded and unique, with Caribbean architecture all around. The Renaissance private Island was the best!! Picture perfect gorgeous, protected safe coves to swim in, beautiful birds and interesting iguanas and lizards abound, and ALWAYS available chairs, no matter what time you go there. That is what sets the Renaissance apart from the High Rise area Americans think they must flock to. We had people tell us their hotel offered to reserve chairs for them at their pool or beach for an extra fee per day. Not a problem at the Renaissance. Island is exclusive to hotel guests. We stayed in the adult only Marina hotel,as we did not have our kids with us, but spent one day over at the Ocean Suites, family
friendly property. The pool areas at both hotels are beautiful, and, again, always available chairs. We did not see the Ocean Suite rooms, but understand they are undergoing renovations to update right now. The Marina hotel's updates are completed and the rooms are beautiful. Our room did not overlook the water, but we didn't mind, since we were only in it to sleep, shower, and change. Aruba is so beautiful you are always outside!! Julio, bartender at Sole pool bar was super nice and fun to talk to. We also loved the Marina pool waitress Elizabeth was awesome too. Great personality and always on top of your drink or food needs. We will definitely come back to Aruba and the Renaissance again!

Definitely a great location if you don't have a car and want to stay around downtown. Convenient to get around with taxis available. The Marketplace was a nice spot to walk to and lots of eateries. CUba's Cookin is a definite recommendation.

Enjoyed spending the day at the private island with flamingos loitering in the beach area. Clean and very peaceful and relaxing.

Definitely a better experience than expected, it was nice to have the pool on the hotel site and then feel like you were getting away from the hotel when you went to the separate private island to hit the beach. We booked last minute and it felt like a good deal considering it was so close to our departure. The staff was very tourist friendly and we were surprised by how easy it was to get to the separate island. We did a separate snorkel tour and enjoyed that thoroughly. Great experience overall.

We just returned from a seven day stay in the Ocean Suites with our family which included young 3 kids (under 7).

I can't say enough wonderful things about the island beach which is reserved for Renaissance guests to use. Warm, calm water set up as a lagoon, spectacularly clean, no 'getting there early to reserve beach chairs' that you see so often at other resorts - here there is plenty of space. There are actually two beaches on the island, one family friendly and one for adults, and our kids loved to feed the flamingos.

Contrary to what some of the reviewers have written, we actually were pleased that we did the all inclusive. Our kids were free under that plan (because of their ages) so $260/day fed all 5 of us...which meant we could enjoy the buffet breakfast and fresh fruit etc. for breakfast, and have anything we wanted for lunch and dinner...and all the smoothies, drinks and ice cream we wanted without worrying about the cost. It's true there are a ton of restaurants nearby (and you can get lunch for Subway if you wanted - obviously that's cheaper) but we really liked the convenience of ordering at the beach for lunch. The (dinner) seafood buffet at Aquarius was well worth it given that it was included - custom prepared crab legs, lobster, scallops etc. And everything was super fresh. The meats at all the restaurants were pretty average, but if I wanted a New York Steak House experience, I'd stay in NY.

The rooms at the Ocean Suites definitely are in need of a makeover, and renovations had started just prior to our stay. We weren't inconvenienced at all and didn't hear anything...so we weren't troubled by it, and whenever the project is done the hotel will be even better. The rooms are clean but very dark (less 'airy and Caribbean' and more '80s dark brocade') and the bedroom in our suite didn't have any windows which I found odd. They could easily (quickly) spruce the bathrooms up by just cleaning the grout in the bathroom a bit. But we had a really nice patio and we were in the perfect location.

Pros: Can't say enough about the beach on Renaissance Island, VERY friendly service, cleanliness of the pool area, friendly flamingos & iguanas...quiet (other than the planes, which was only occasional), super family friendly, really great.

Cons: Rooms in need of updating (they're doing this now), bedroom without a window (then again, we were outside from 8-8 so who cares?) and the nearby airplanes taking off on occasion.

As an aside, we've stayed at the Marriott Surf Club before as well, and though I didn't love the planes near the Renaissance, the beach and pool at the Renaissance led us to return to the Renaissance vs. the Surf Club. Rooms at the Surf Club were indisputably better, and the pool there has more 'fun stuff' (slides, lazy river) but I hated fighting for beach and pool chairs, it felt crowded and packed and I preferred the laid back loveliness of the Renaissance.

Room Tip: Request to stay where you won't hear the renovations (as of April they were working on the 5th f...

Just spent spring break in Aruba. This is a great hotel for families. Not crowded like the high rise hotels. The room is a bit out dated but a great location. No need for a car. Plenty of places to eat nearby. The island is great too especially for small children as well as older kids. Rooms are quiet and the beds are very comfortable. They are updating the hotel and they only work on it during the day. The poolside food is ok and the drinks are not that tasty but none of the hotels make good drinks. No fresh fruit used. If you have children and want a quiet hotel and an area for swimming this is the place. You can rent paddle boards, kayaks, and such on the island and use it in the lagoon. Plenty of chairs at the hotel and on the island. The boat drivers are awesome too.

Room Tip: We had a high floor king suite. Great for privacy for parents. They had a pull out couch but gave...

This is the only place we stay in Aruba. We aren't into the touristy stuff anymore, and the Renaissance - with their own private island - is just the ticket for us. The Ocean Suites fit us best and all of the rooms are being remodelled this year. The model room looks very nice. This was our 10th visit. It is right in downtown Orangestad. It affords a great view of the cruise ships coming into port. It is not too loud or crazy. There is a casino and lots of shopping & dining within walking distance. The 10-15 minute boat ride to Renaissance Island is worth the trip, and the restaurant on the island - Papagayo's - has been completely remodeled and upgraded, including their menu, which is very nice and reasonable. The Renaissance is a great place for families and couples of all ages.

Room Tip: The Marina suites are more modern and geared more toward a younger, hipper crowd. The Ocean Suites...

Staying at the Renaissance Marina Resort, Hotel & Casino was the best choice by far. Our room was relatively small but very modern and extremely clean. The house keeping staff definitely did an outstanding job with cleaning the rooms & replenishing fresh towels on a daily basis. Both, the staff at the tour desk and the check - in counter were extremely nice and willing to answer any questions we had about off site attractions.
I cant emphasize enough - the importance of purchasing the ALL INCLUSIVE PLAN. Trust me, you will come out on top - particularly if you are a casual drinker. On the low end for an Person paying out of pocket for everything, Just to enjoy 2 casual drinks for yourself and maybe 2 for your significant other will cost you $40 to $45... and that's just being casual, but if you enjoy cocktails like that - both in the afternoon and in the evening, you will easily spend $80 to $90 a day on drinks ALONE...And most people who try to cut corners and pay out of pocket will do just that - end up paying close to $100 a night on cocktails..... Why? -- Because that's what most people do on vacation...Relax and unwind and let there hair back and enjoy normalcy without any restraints.....So to casually enjoy yourself like that OVER a 4 or 5 night period will run you upwards $400 plus--- on alcohol ALONE....My point is this," Purchase the All Inclusive Plan and drink all you desire -at ANYTIME of the day without pulling out your wallet......Not to mention, your option to eat at any of the Five Restaurant you desire. Even eating off the Resort can be pricey. I know this as fact because we wanted to experience some of the local cuisine during our stay, so we tried numerous places. However, Just an appetizer, two entrees and a beverage at most places will run you $45 to $60....so why not enjoy the food at any of the Five Restaurant's- without pulling out your wallet !!!!! And if you want to take a little cash to spend on a few local eatery's, its your option, but knowing your food bill is paid in advance, with the option to choose from multiple 4 to 5 star restaurant's is quite satisfying.

My suggestion to New comers staying at The Renaissance Marina(adult Hotel) would be to purchase the Inclusive plan, and if you desire to venture out and try some of the local cuisine at some of the local spots like, "The Driftwood, The Old fisherman, Cuba Cooking, & Cilo" you can. Those were some of the Eatery's we tried and they ALL Were amazing!!!!

Moreover, take advantage of the Private Island owned by Renaissance, that you will taken to via boat -ride. The boat will pick you below the escalators at the lower level INSIDE of the hotel- drop you off for a day of fun or even an hour or two, then bring you back to the Resort upon request.... Its really awesome!!!

In my opinion, The Renaissance is located in the best spot on the Island. Its right in the Center of Downtown...Even the Cruise ships that sail to Aruba dock across the street where many of the local boats & yachts are....The Ritz Carlton, Marriot and Radisson Resorts are several miles down the island... and yes, they also have shopping areas that were developed over the years that will make your experience great if you choose to reside at one of those Resorts, Those Resorts are closer to Palm Island. Palm Island is an awesome beach... Its where you would have to go if you desire to participate in the Para sailing, jet skiing ect... but The Renaissance obviously have a relationship with "The Palm Island Tour guides" because many of the Tours, safaris and excursions offered at the Renaissance are conducted by Palm Tours associates...So you can still can have the best of both worlds by enjoying Palm Islands activities, yet stay in the heart of downtown
Its funny because, The Renaissance Marina is positioned directly over all of the "High line exclusive clothing stores". Stores like, Tag Huer, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Gucci, Lacoste - yet, when you walk outside of the Hotel and venture a block or so down the street,(Downtown Aruba) you have the basic premium stores for men and women like, Nike, Aldo, Hilfiger, and the list goes on... you can literally shop until you drop regardless of what budget you are on.... there are options for everyone...I will definitely be returning very soon.
