“Our Aruba experience”
Reviewed November 28, 2013

Renaissance Aruba Resort (Marriott) is a very nice, modern and recently renovated hotel with extremely comfortable rooms ( our king size bed was amazing..).
Hotel's position was fine (few min by car from the airport),it is situated in the harbour of Oranjestad (Aruba's capital...quite silent and deserted place..a bit spooky I would say) and there are some fine restaurants, malls and clubs in its neighborhood.
Though there is not the beach in front of the hotel, it has a direct boat connection (every 15 mins) to its private island with two beautiful beaches:family one and adult only one.
The only downside of the private island is its proximity to the airport (it is actually at the back of the island) and therefore you can hear and see the planes taking off and landing every few minutes.
The hotel has its own mall, casino and many different restaurants ( we have tried the Octopus dinner buffet...yummy...),Starbucks and you can have some nice cocktails at the lobby bar near the pool.
All in all..extremely positive experience, would definitely reccomend this Marriott Resort to anyone who plans to visit Aruba.

P.S.There is one more Marriott Hotel on Aruba (Marriott Aruba Resort&Stellaris Casino)..mind what you are going to refer to your taxi driver because you might be charged more (25$ instead of 18$) for your ride because the other one is much farther from the airport.

The Renaissance Aruba Resort marina is newly renovated and in the downtown area. I was pleased with the resort overall.
One complaint was the location. As I mentioned, it is located in the downtown area in the low rise area. It seemed to me that most of the restaurants and other "cool" spots were located in the high rise area. We didn't rent a car so I felt we were limited on places to go. Taxis were $20 to anywhere... that got expensive. Another complaint was the Blue bar food was not good! I was very disappointed in the food. Another disappointed was the hotel did not put a happy anniversary note or something in our room- especially after telling them we were celebrating our 10 year anniversary there. Usually a hotel will at least put a note in your room. We weren't able to get an upgrade either because the hotel was full. That is understandable.
Aquarius restaurant was really good. We ate dinner there- the seafood buffet and breakfast- again an all you can eat buffet. The seafood buffet was good. There were a few kids running around the entire time we were eating. Not sure why parents did not make their kids sit during dinner. It was very disturbing. I was expecting not to see kids on the marina side. We also ate at L.G. Smiths- this is a romantic restaurant and the food was very good. The casino in the resort was fun.
The pool is modern and sexy. I loved it. The other best part of this resort is the private island. The island is awesome. The flamingos and iguanas are not as plentiful as I thought they were going to be. They were a nice touch.
I don't know if we will stay at this resort on our next trip to Aruba. I would stay at a hotel in the high rise area.
Oh forgot to mention the staff- they were great. We didn't encounter any bad staff. We constantly saw them cleaning the resort and they were always asking if they could help us.
Overall, I give the hotel a 6 out of 10.

Room Tip: Maybe try to get a room overlooking the pool. Our room overlooked the inside of the resort and hones...

As you may have read in previous the hotel has some challenges. The hotel is a franchise where I suspect the owners are a bit relaxed about holding to top notch standard. The staff is wonderful but the property itself struggles despite renovation.

It's the small things that makes this property fall short of being up to par with other classy high end properties. Examples: electrical cords sticking out from advertisement boards, plumbing outlets not covered, paint chips, lots and lots and lots of dirt stains in carpets and upholstery. Internet is a hit and miss. It was at first not working at all in the guest room but we called the IT support line and have them reset permission access, It worked on and off after that.

There is a rotating schedule every 15 min of boats that pick up guests staying in the hotel. You have to show your hotel key which ensures that only paying guests have access.

The island is wonderful!! Flamingos on the adult side, lots of other wildlife such as iguanas and lizards. The bar and restaurant on the family friendly side is great with free wifi.

If it wasn't for the private island this hotel would be a bit more disappointing.

The location is NOT on the beach. It is in the middle of downtown. The hotel was just redone. Very contemporary and simplistic. Construction is shotty. Exposed wires all over. Bill Marriott was just here. I am surprised that he didn't notice. Reported three times that the phone didn't work in the room. Was never resolved. The whirlpool in the room didn't work. Also reported three times. No resolution. Internet is hit and miss. Alacarte breakfast has great choices. The strong selling point is the private island. A boat goes out every 15 minutes. A beautiful ride on the bay. There are two beaches on the island and a wonderful lunch bar. Order the red snapper. Staff very very hospitable. Very clean.

There is a hertz on location. Want to save money? Book your car on line, not at the hertz desk.

Woke up,in the middle of the night with cigarette smoke coming through the ventilation system. Great shopping near the hotel.

I suggest the full service marriott on the island. That is where Mr. Marriott stayed!

The adult only rooms and beach are a wonderful treat. No kids screaming!!

Nicely renovated rooms. Good located and beautifull beach at the island! Take the boat shuttle for a lovely ride to the island and have a nice lunch. Hotel has nice bar and small pool with nice views over the harbour.

Room Tip: Take a nice lunch at the island.

We just arrived back from our second trip to the Renaissance - Marina and it’s hard to believe that this trip was even better than our first earlier this year. Our friends and us stayed in one of the renovated rooms and they are much nicer than the previous rooms we had in April. The rooms are very modern and everything is brand new, including a very large and comfortable bed! The only complaint we had was with the shower and only having a half door; yes water gets on the floor but if you position the shower head towards the wall and throw down a towel, it’s perfectly fine. Most of the staff recognized us from our previous trip in April and they were all friendly and really treated us well. Breakfast was always fantastic and Dorothy would greet us every morning with a smile. Our favorite waitress at the Blue Bar was Sugar and she was outstanding; always had a smile and really took good care of us…..especially with the double and triple rye & gingers! The private island is relaxing and never really over crowded (the airport is behind the island – there is some noise but it is neat to watch the planes come in while swimming or swinging in a hammock). No one has really mentioned this in any of the previous reviews, but the Restaurant on the island has been completely renovated. They now have a beautiful bar which you can sit and enjoy a drink and the menu is also new. We tried multiple items on the menu and we don’t have one complaint about the food. They even have a stone pizza oven and make pizzas to order! Our favorite server on the island was Margareth (not sure about the spelling). She was always smiling, very quick and attentive. For dinner, we would alternate between the Blue Bar (which also has a new menu, including Surf and Turf) and the L.G. Steak House. This is by far our favorite restaurant on the resort. L.G has also gone through some renovations and looks very modern. The bar tenders, Edward and Angelo are fantastic and always took good care of us. We spent hours talking to them while sipping on wine and they really made a great impression on us with their great attitude and attention to customer service……we hope you are having a wonderful time in Florida Edward shopping at Walmart and thanks for that ‘Relax’ wine Angelo! Another great waiter was Giovani (spelling is not correct) and we had him a number of nights. Overall we think the Renaissance is amazing and we are already planning our next trip for November 2014. For anyone reading negative reviews with people complaining about service or food, just ignore them and book your trip to the Renaissance-Marina and you won’t be disappointed.

We definitely enjoyed this hotel with a group of young couples. Fun pool/bar area, great location downtown, and liked the option to go the island. The hotel was under construction, but it was never noisy early in the morning or at night. I will say the renovations were a little too modern. The shower had just a half glass pane for the "door" which leaked water through the bathroom and the sliding glass door for the bathroom was not private at all! But the bed and bedding was seriously the most comfortable I've slept. I kept saying I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud.
The staff was friendly and helpful with everything we needed. I didn't really enjoy having to wait to take a boat to get to the island, but once we got there it was very nice. I would stay here with a group again. If it was just my husband and I, probably not.
