As long-time time share owners at the Renaissance Ocean Suites, my family has been enjoying this property for almost 20 years. The location of the resort, close to the airport ($18 taxi ride) and cruise ship pier, makes the location low-key and peaceful...just what you need to relax as opposed to the hustle and bustle of the high rise district which is becoming more and more commercialized each year.

The property is wonderful for families with children, with each room comfortably accommodating 4 people, typically 2 adults in a comfy bedroom and 2 kids on the fold-out couch in the living room. The suites have a small refrigerator and cooktops, so you can take a stroll to the market and get basic supplies. The bathroom areas could use some remodeling as they are showing their age (ceiling tracks and ceramic tiles), as are the fold-out couches. Some new mattresses for them may be in order.

These minor inconveniences can be overlooked as you will basically be using the room for bathing and sleeping as most people will spend all of their time at the pool, by the lagoon, on the private island accessible by launch, or exploring the downtown area. There is free WiFi in the lobby area which attracts a good share of tweens, teens, and adults wanting to stay in touch. There is also WiFi at Papagayos, the restaurant on the private island.

You must try the local restaurants in the area, many of which are accessible by foot. We always go to Plaza Cafe, Que Pasa, Driftwood, el Gaucho, and Yemanja, all of which are in walking distance. Cabs are required for other restaurants such as Madame Janette, Blossoms, Windows on Aruba, and Gianni's, which are some of our other favorites. Seaport Casino is located adjacent to the resort.

In addition to the opportunity to decompress and enjoy beautiful, peaceful scenery, what really keeps us coming back is the great staff at the Ocean Suites. We have formed a bond with the staff, some of whom have been there 20 years or more and are truly dedicated to making your trip special, and offering you great service. Wagner and Nelson, who very capably and professionally supervise the Sole bar area, oversee a wonderful staff of bartenders and waitstaff who are quick to please. Nelson Ruiz, Julio Tromp, Nathalia deFrieitas, Elizabeth Ludenas, Fatima, Rudmar, and Luz are some of the hardest working people we have met, yet are always smiling and upbeat. They truly make our vacations special!

My husband and I have been going for years and the resort is wonderful. Besides the property itself with the pools, lagoon, swim up bar and private island , our favorite part is the staff at Sole'. Year after year we see the same people working and they are always happy to serve us and greet us with a smile. Natalia, Julio , Nelson , Wagner, Elizabeth ,Luz and Fatima always make our experience at the Suites even better. We will continue to go to this oasis and enjoy the tranquility and beauty of this place . If there is any room for improvement, I would have to say it is with things such as lounge chairs being old , people being allowed to reserve them all day without being in them and the beach on the island needs to be combed more. If these things get addressed then I would give it 5 stars.

We arrived at the Renaissance on my Birthday and it was GREAT!
The food was excellent, we never had one bad meal.the jäger schnitzel pork at the Sole restaurant was sooo good! The grouper at this place was also very tasty. Chicken wings at the bar...mmmmmm. The only buffet is at breakfast but you can also get fresh to order.
The weather was perfect...thank God for the trade winds. It would of been unbearable if there wasn't that constant breeze.
Great shopping. Every price range...from the market place right up to high end stores and everything in between.
The island was very nice. The water is so clear. I fed the pink flamingos. They are so pretty.
Lots of geckos, lizards and iguanas. No snakes. Never had any biting insects.

Our ONLY complaint would be the music around the pool/bar. It was club music that the young adults enjoy. The majority of the people were over 40 so you think they would play some music geared to that age group but that never happened. Just the loud boom, boom, boom stuff.

The bathrooms did need updating but big deal. They still served there purpose. Toiletries were supplied every day. Hair dryer worked just fine. Bathrobes and slippers were supplied.
There was a safe in the closet and you punch in your own safe numbers.

Cruise ships come in every day except for Saturday and Sunday.
I highly recommend this resort. We will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool, this way you'll also see the marina.

The employees make the experience a terrific one. They're the best. We always enjoy it here, the Casino, Blue, the Island, Papa Guayo's, the Ocean side, the Marina. Its always good and the downtown location helps experience some of the local flavor as opposed to the beaches up north that feel like Myrtle Beach. Look for Nathalia at the Oceanside poolside bar, Prim is all over the property very business like and the best. Jacqueline at Blue is terrific, excellent. Viviana at Papaguayos together with Jorge remember what you drank the last trip, how you like it and are terrific. Believe it or not even the gents down at the round about recognize you and in many case as a repeat visitor call you by name. I love this place and we'll be back next year

Room Tip: It depends upon the time of year. If its Carnavale or Pagara then its LG Smith side view, otherwise...

Very busy place during our stay, staff overwhelmed by the number of guests. Slow service at the bar. We booked the steakhouse and were very happy the first night (A Washington, thank you!), but it went downhill from there...The rooms are clean, bathrooms need updating. There are many shops around the property. The private island is beautiful and we enjoyed the boat trip to the island very much. Again, the beach was crowded during our stay and the service at the restaurant was very slow. Would like to commend Elizabeth Ludenas at the Sole for exceptional service despite the many customers! Always few steps ahead! Way to go!

This is the email I sent to marriott customer service

first upon checkin we could not get the early checkin requested nor did we receive an upgrade or the king size bed we requested (all. Supposed to be a part of the "elite" status that Marriott makes you believe means something)

But with that being said the room that we are in is the worst thing I have ever seen in any hotel Let alone a "Marriott"
The condition of the bathroom in this room we are in is disgusting!!
The tub is completely stained. Parts of the porceline is completely gone from the bottom, the tile has mold, the door frame at the floor is rusted, the wall in the room is cracked ane falling apart. Very dated and should not have carpet where more mold and mildew can breed

I have taken pictures and have enclosed them in this e-mail for you yo see

This is the first time that I have ever used my points to book a room and I hope this is not the service that you give your platinum elite members who book with points, after all isn't this reward why we use Marriott exclusively.

In closing I hope that somehow I can find my way to remaining a devoted Marriott member

Regards

There is nothing like the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino for its downtown location and beautiful private Island for its guests only. We spent the first 2 weeks in February at this Resort and as always had excellent weather e.g. 88 degrees with the Arubian winds. The location is conveniently located with fine stores and restaurants nearby. I recommend it highly if you are going to Aruba.
