We had done lots of research and were going to Aruba for a destination wedding in our family. Out of the 16 of us traveling, we rented 3 different condos in Oceania. We arrived first, days ahead of the others who were staying at Oceania.
There IS security, and 'checking into' Oceania, consisted of us giving our name to the security folks at the gate...English is not the first language spoken on Aruba, and that was the first place we noticed this to be true.
The rental manager for the condo we rented showed up after a short while to show us to 'our' condo.
The first impression of Oceania was not wonderful...The land directly next to Oceania has a huge crane, as they are developing the land into something, and the crane is part of the view from the condo...
The rental manager, Omaira, let us into apt 216, which has a digital door-code, which I found to be very handy, instead of having to carry a key. She showed us around the condo, which had no personality (meaning there were no pictures on the wall, no 'furnishings', no inviting extras). The bedrooms are wonderfully sized and the bathrooms presented as spacious and lovely. She also showed us the in-unit washer/dryer, an amazingly wonderful extra when traveling for this period of time (and pointed out that even though the washing machine was missing the knob, it worked perfectly).

As soon as Omaira left us, we looked around the condo to acclimate, as our stay was 10 days, and we wanted to create our comfort zone for our vacation.

The excrement on the floor near the couch looked like bird droppings, but must have been from the HUGE cockroach that showed itself the following morning...but wait, I've jumped ahead of myself!
The bathrooms (there are two--a GREAT feature!) were quickly appointed--there were two of us in the condo, and it was a luxury to have my own bathroom! The kitchen has all the necessary appliances you may need, and has the dishes/glasses/utensils as well. There are two tv's and regarding internet: the coverage is spotty at best and while information was left for us as to how to connect, it wasn't active information and wifi was spotty.

First full day in Aruba showed us many issues with Oceania 216, and for reading purposes, I'll just list them:
-master bathroom toilet broken (we called Omaira to get this fixed and the 'handy man' didn't show up until the day before we left with a twist-tie to fix the toilet)
-toilet paper holder came off in my hand (wasn't attached to the wall at all)
-shower handle was not attached to the wall either (at this point, I felt like we were in a Chevy Chase vacation movie)
-dishwasher wasn't secured to the counter, so if you pull out either the top or bottom rack, the whole dishwasher leans out
-light in master closet broken (which wouldn't be a big deal except it's a wonderfully HUGE walk-in closet and there's no natural light in there!)
-microwave vent doesn't 'vent'
-cockroaches (but in all honesty, we left our trash in the trash container under the sink the first night; after the cockroach appeared, we simply hung a trash bag from one of the cabinet handles and didn't see any others the rest of the trip)

We shared all these issues with Omaira, and the only issue that was 'addressed' was the toilet being fixed after most of our stay, with a twist-tie....I'm quite certain they didn't fix any of the issues before the next visitor arrived.

Now, important factor here is this:
Our relatives who stayed 2 doors down from us, in condo 213, had a BEAUTIFULLY appointed condo. It was well cared for and the owners obviously want their visitors to enjoy their stay. The other folks in our party stayed on the top floor and had a much bigger condo as they had more folks in their party, and from the pictures they have, their condo unit looked nice.

So, all in all, Oceania is a nice alternative to staying in the high-rise hotel section of Aruba, and you can save lots by buying your own groceries (the best grocery store is LING...don't bother with the other places, they're a waste of your time/money). We ate some meals out, but we love being able to cut costs by eating low key for the most part. The beach across from Oceania is lovely for swimming....not snorkeling though...head to Baby Beach for that.
Also, rent a car when in Aruba....we found that Economy would rent us a toyota camry for $255 for 10 days..if I had known this before we arrived, it would've saved us the $31 cab fare from the airport.

We enjoyed Aruba, and LOVED that there was a bar downtown named Smokey Joe's, serving the BEST on-the-bone ribs!!!! Didn't hurt that they had the Red Sox baseball game on both nights we went--apparently the owner is from New England and pays extra to have the sports channel for the Red Sox!

Room Tip: ask for specific pictures of the unit!

I would recommend our unit! We stayed in the Palm Bldg, #315. We had a great view of the sunset, the ocean/beach, and the beautiful grounds. The condo was great, two bedrooms, nicely furnished. Afternoon sun on the balcony for anyone who has to bring little ones in for a nap! Four awesome pools! The beach is so close with great chairs/towels all provided in the condo. Nice washer/dryer and great kitchen for families who don't want to eat out all the time! The owner was awesome to work with and the property manager was very responsive to our needs. I think it was very affordable and we have and will recommend it to our friends and family. My only caveat would be that you do need to ask if it is a time for the complex to be taken over by South American travelers, we had such a quiet and nice first week and we were told by several people that it would change during the second week when the South American travelers came into the complex (almost the whole complex). It did get incredibly noisy and we had to call security , manager of the complex and property. We did get some help but it was tough. It was amazing how rudely the travelers were with the partying until 6 AM one morning. We would rent here again absolutely but we would ask if this would be one of the times when the South Americans were in town apparently it only happens at certain times of the year. Also, there is a beautiful view but also to the left of the Palm and Eagle Building you do view an empty abandoned construction site but with all the other beauty we didn't really notice it much. If you have a real problem with something like that you could rent in the Boca Grande or the Boca Catalina. Those were the two things that I would have to tell others renting here but they were outside the owners control. I would rent again for sure!

Room Tip: It seems that the higher condos had better views.

stayed in a studio apartment at this property with my girlfriend and had a great time. the complex is extremely well manicured and well maintained while the unit we stayed in (each apartment has a different owner) was in excellent form and i would compare it to a 4 star hotel room. we had a kitchenette in the studio and a balcony where we enjoyed brunches and sunsets. as mentioned by others the property is separated from the beach by a quiet road by that does not rob it by its charm in any way. the oceania residences are located on eagle beach which is one of the wider and less crowded beaches (when compared to palm beach for example) and you can actually walk on the beach at 11 and get a shaded spot under a palapa without a problem!
we stayed here because we decided on our vacation very late and all the hotels were booked-up but i am extremely glad in hindsight that we did not end up in a hotel, especially in what is called the "high-rise" hotel area of aruba / palm beach.
we had a car so getting places was not an issue, but the main palm beach hotel area is about 3-5 min car drive away (around 25 - 30 min walk)
would definitely recommend this property to others but beware of the fact that since every unit belongs to a different owner furnishings / apartment upkeep is not uniform. also another possible issue relates to very thin walls between some units - we did not have a big issue with this but i can definetly see how this could be an issue.

I was skeptical at first the value of my 2 bed/2 bath condo. Certain reviews got me a little worried. But to my delight and surprise, the condo was absolutely perfect. Modern and clean and the property is very well-maintained and secured. The residences are the best looking in the area - no way it looks dilapidated or dated. I stayed in the racquet building - with the "city" view which is actually a view of a bankrupt water park but really who cares? I'm here to enjoy the beach, the pools (zero-entry a bonus for young children), the non-snowy weather - for a third of the price of an overpriced high-rise hotel, I'll take it! The location can't be beat - in the middle of the south shore of the island, we can go to the tourist-trap high-rise area or head east to baby beach. Can't wait to return!

We enjoyed our stay but with a few caveats. First, our condo itself was wonderful (and we received a good deal on the price). It was new with nice amenities. The layout worked well for our family and the extra futon chair/bed in our condo was an added benefit. The view was very nice and we generally enjoyed sitting on our porch (although, there were a few South American extended families who own condos there - and they were often celebrating late- so we rarely had a quiet evening out on our patio - but it was interesting). The pools close at 8 at night. The pools were very large and, during our summertime trip, they were so warm that it wasn't refreshing. The kids loved the pools though. The ocean was the perfect temperature. Eagle Beach is across the street and it was quiet and beautiful. The location of this complex is very good- we rented a car and it was never too far to drive to the places we wanted to go. Security regularly patrolled the property. Note that there was unfinished construction next door (a large building in close proximity) -which you should inquire about if you're considering this complex.
