If you're staying in the English/Falmouth harbour area, this is a great way to spend a day. The water's calmer over here than on the other nearby beach (Pigeon) and the views are beautiful. There are little floating docks you can sit out on in the water (lovely!) and it's accessible by car and by very affordable water taxi (10 EC from Nelson's Dockyard). Catherine's cafe, which is delicious, is nearby (about 30 seconds in a water taxi) and highly recommended for lunch!

“Galleon Beach”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

My family and I were on the Carnival Valor cruise and the second port was Antigua. We took bus #17 to Nelson's Dockyard National Park for $3.75 per person. Unfortunately, beginning in June the water taxi is unavailable because of off season. The cost would have been $3 per person. Instead we had to take a shuttle from Nelson's Dockyard National Park to Galleon's Beach which is only 15-20 min away for another $1.60 per person. Galleon's Beach was very private we were the only cruisers there besides the visitors from the nearby private Inn and individual homes around the beach area. If you walk towards the Charlotte's Trail you can find a nicer beach and snorkal area with sand and no rocks. If you follow Charlotte's Trail it can lead you to Shirley Heights. It was a nice beach but all the facilities were closed during off season but you can use the restaurant at the nearby private Inn. We ended up walking 10-15 min to the nearest bus stop to take us back to the bus station in downtown near the cruise port, that cost us $3.60 per person. Antigua was very poor it was almost as bad as Belize. The next time, we would like to understand the bus system a little better and visit Long Bay Beach.
