The old original buildings made history come alive. The museum was very good with interesting exhibits and detailed cards explaining. The information cleared up a misconception that I had about the purpose of Nelson being there. A short hike on a trail led to Fort Berkely where cannon were place to protect the harbor entrance. There was a restaurant there but we had packed a picnic lunch. Lots of interesting yachts and sailboats to view in the harbor.

Loved the quaintness. Good restaurants and bar to eat/drink at. Loved looking at all the different yachts, boats that were moored up.

Beautiful place, would have loved to have seen it in Nelson's time !! A market is held every day except Sunday and the prices are very competitive.

We started at the dockyard, (8$ p/p, <12-free)this includes access to Shirley Heights at the top of mountain, which is about 5 minute drive from dockyard. The view up top is beautiful and what makes it worthwhile. The dockyard museum takes about 15 minutes, there is parking right in front. The dockyard is mostly restaurants/marina and shops plus a little museum (you could spend more time here reading). We came from the cruise ship port via rental car in about 35 minutes and then worked our way back to the port over the day.
