“Great sense of history..”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

It was really strange to be thousands of miles away in tropical Antigua, and yet to feel at home in 'Georgian' Nelson's Dockyard. It was like London-by-the-sea. The sense of history is palpable.... I wished I could look back in time when the harbour was full of tall ships!

“Admirals Inn”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

We had dinner here. Just magical and calming. Paul (owner) has done a beautiful job with his restoration and additions to the inn.

“Well organized attraction”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

We were impressed with how well documented the history of this attraction is laid out in the museum.with lots of interesting artifacts and descriptions of the life back then. There is also an old bakery that is still producing baked goods, a restaurant and several craft shops and stalls. The place is well maintained.Definitely worth a visit. Good for families too with older children

“Did I miss something?”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

My husband and I are history geeks and expected something brilliant, from other travelers' reviews of Nelson's Dockyard. The buildings are beautifully restored, but they are all occupied by shopkeepers, selling things one could buy on any island, and we didn't go there to shop or eat. The nice man who sold us our ticket did NOT offer any tour and was not a docent, like we are used to when touring USA historical sites and national parks. I confess that after walking around for 45 minutes and seeing/reading little of interest, we just skipped the little museum, and got back on our road trip around the island.
We did love the breath-taking view from the second part of Nelson's Dockyard (up the hill to a small museum) and the "Disney-like" 15 minute presentation was alright - kids would have enjoyed it more.
Had I known how little was there, I might not have been as negative in my review. There are, however, much prettier and more interesting natural sites to visit on the island, if you have limited time to explore.

“A must-see!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is how historical sites should be preserved: historical buildings faithfully restored and leased to commercial operators to pay the bills for upkeep.

Lots of history, stories and interesting ship lore.
