The history and beauty is wonderful. Our tour guide was very informative. Amazing how people could have survived during that time.

Everywhere was closed when we visited, and luckily we arrived at the Dockyard by rental car (so that we could leave as soon as possible). Not much to do and not much to see either, quite boring really, within an hour we had left the restored/run down, ruined area ... and what is the link with Horatio Nelson and Antigua? Historically, he never actually visited or stayed on the island (?!)

Much work has been done to recreate the histoic location. Felt like I was back in time with the restored buildings

Saw the Nelson's Dockyard as part of a tour. I liked it, really great to see historic buildings from the past. The lady that did the tour with us was able to answer all our questions! A must-see place in Antigua

We were staying at the nearby St. James' Club, and took a return taxi ride to the dockyard. This is not a living museum - just a collection of buildings including a small museum.
We heard of visitors skipping the payment booth to save $8 US each, but this attraction will never improve if everyone did this!
The buildings have been saved from falling into dis-repair - most have new uses as shops & restaurants/bars. Only the shops were open when we visited, August is the low season and perhaps the other businesses aren't open yet.
At the rear of the pay desk, there is a booth containing an ATM machine, then a few hawkers selling tourist stuff.
The dockyard is soon to host a week of sailing festivities - there were only a couple of private yachts at the moorings. There are a few old cannon & anchors near the buildings.
The small museum contains Navy memorabilia & stuff about Nelson - he was there for 3 years approx. and is worth a look. Allow an hour for your visit overall and no more.
