“Beautiful little historic place.”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

I stayed for a couple of nights whilst on business, room booked for by company. Would I stay here again? Yes.

My room was in main hotel building which is quite small, - a very nice place. Lots of history and ambience. Room had nice wooden floor, big double bed, white linen, fan in ceiling, old prints on walls.
Room was very clean, bathroom was a little small I remember, but adequate.

Internet worked better in reception than in room.

Restaurant area was outdoors, but covered. Very nice, with nice food, but very expensive food and drinks. Bowl of pasta was about 25-30USD. Although a few minutes walk from hotel are a few nice, cheaper restaurants.

Breakfast was a delight sitting in the restaurant area, overlooking the waterside. Food was great quality, but as I say, expensive. Glad my company was picking up the bill.

There are some attractions are a few minutes walk away, a nice little naval museum etc.

And opposite the hotel, a 1-minute boat ride across the water was another part of the hotel, Gunpowder, which was nice. Great wee pool, great view, great hamburgers.

All in all a pleasant place to stay, clean, nice, historic.

I stay in this hotel every year for business, and this is my home away from home when in Antigua. This is truly a unique hotel, built within one of the original buildings in the naval fortification built in the mid 1700's, and now called Nelson's Dockyard as Horatio Nelson was in charge of this naval station for 3 years. The location is terrific. There are very few hotels built out of coral rock in the mid 1700's available in the Caribbean. This hotel is a historic remnant of the Old Plantation Age in the Caribbean.

Room Tip: I ask to stay in the Annex, where I find it quieter. If A/C is important, be sure to ask for a room...

My wife and I can't say enough about this quaint inn. We stayed in one of the beautifully restored gunpowder suites across the harbor from the main part of the inn. Each suite has a fantastic
Balcony with gorgeous views of the inn, sailboats in the harbor and the pool immediately below the suites. The owner greeted us, gave us a welcoming cocktail and then took us to our suite.
The suites are reached via a small boat and a two minute trip from the main inn. While the
boat was always at hand there also was a car and driver for late nights or for those who
didn't want to be on the water. The food at the inn was excellent and all the staff were very
friendly. We certainly will return the next time we are in Antigua.

The Admiral's Inn is such a magical place full of history and comfort. You actually stay in historic buildings that are very quaint. The main building is right in the heart of the historic waterfront which we spent 1 night one of those rooms to have the historic feel. Then we spent 2 nights across the bay in the gunpowder rooms, which is an old converted gunpowder/dry goods storage building redone with modern rooms. There is a pool outside as well. The owners are super nice and very accommodating. And the staff were excellent. One even gave us the number of a local body shop guy to fix a scratch I got on our rental car. The restaurant they have is by far the best place to eat in English Harbor. Every meal was delicious! The hotel is within walking distance of the main part of town and anything you need. It's also so convenient to walk out and right into the historic park with little bars and restaurants, a bakery and such and then walk up to the old ruins of the fort on top of the hill looking out into the harbor. If you're going to be in English Harbor this is by far the place you want to stay! Great value, Great property, Great staff! Great Stay!!!

Room Tip: The older rooms by the office are more traditional historic and are worthwhile for the history and c...

My wife and I had a very enjoyable, relaxing week at the Admirals Inn which is located in a historically interesting old British Navy dockyard. Very clean, great food and and friendly staff. Plenty of restaurent options both in the dockyard and within 5 minutes walk to adjacent Falmouth harbor

Lovely spot to stay in English Harbour! Rooms are smallish and functional, clean and the A/C took the edge off of the humidity, if that is an issue. Showers reflect the island concern about water conservation and for two persons a bit of a squeeze, so all the more fun! A bit noisy for rooms by the road, as the Dockyard leaf blowers start cleaning each day around 0745. However, this is not the fault of the hotel. Staff are wonderful, warm and friendly. Food was excellent in both the restaurant at the Inn and also across the water at the new Boom restaurant next to the pool that also services guests from the Inn. Dinghy was made available to shuttle us around the harbour and to Boom as we needed without undo delay. A special place, a wonderful experience and highly recommended.

Room Tip: Perhaps a room at the Powder House/Boom would be more quiet

After my first experience of Admirals Inn last year, we really wanted to return. We made it back last month and were not disappointed. We would agree with the many positive reviews. It is important to be aware this is not a custom built 'chain' hotel. It is an historic building beautifully converted. So rooms, while full of interest and stories, are all slightly different and 'quirky'. This is reflected in the various prices. I would always talk directly to the hotel when making a reservation, and discuss the options available. In our case we booked through a web site. On arrival we were frankly disappointed with the room provided for the price. We discussed this with the management and were quickly moved to a room more within our expectations. The new Gunpowder Suite rooms are spectacular. The staff make this hotel special, and especially Cecile, the boatman, and Denise, the housekeeper. We will be back.
