Overall this resort is fabulous. Staff, amenities, location, weather, food, all excellent. Few issues but ironed out smoothly by Chris and his staff. To everyone, too many to mention individually, we would like to thank you for a wonderful vacation. Highly recommend the Cottages, very private and secluded however take bug spray, they have some big devils, and even though they fog regularly it doesnt seem to deter them.

Room Tip: if you are creeped out by Mongoose, Geicho's or birds go for the Beach rooms. We loved watching...

Dear Kim
I am very happy that you enjoyed at the fullest your vacation at Gally Bay Hotel however this Trip Advisor Page is related to Galley Bay Cottages that are located few steps away on the hill from the Hotel.
Our self-content cottages are immerged in the nature and enjoy the stunning views, they offer differt type of vaction, you will not be pampered by any hotel staff but for a much more affordable budget you will be able to enjoy shopping for your groceries at the local market and having intimate dinner alfresco under the veranda of your cabin.
The higher position on the hill allow a constant breeze to flow through the windows keeping the place cool..
I would love to invite you to look at out pictures and maybe , since you are already familiar with the location ,you'll be tempted to experiment a different vacation in the caribbean.

My husband and i stayed at galley bay cottages, in la breeze, in march 2013, and we simply loved it! La breeze is a very romantic cottage, with a most wonderfull view, very weel decorated. If you are looking for a little peace and romance this is the place.
The kitchen has everything you need. The balcony has chairs and a table, and we eat everyday outside. I read in an old review that is no light outside, now there is plenty of light!
You can see in the balcony or in the property an amayzing sunset.
Marco, the owner, is very friendly and helpfull, he did everything to make our stay a very pleasent stay, and he tried to make sure that we got what we need it.
The house has cleaning probably 3 times/ week and has a parking space. It also have wireless.
It is a must to have a car. The place is 8/10 minutes away from st. John's by car. It is not a very easy place to find for the 1'time so if you are renting a car ask them if they can drive you there. We rent in Titis ( a local car hire) and it went fine.
Regarding the beaches the best ones, not crowded, are rendesvouz bay, halfmoon bay and hermitage bay.
The restaurant you must go is Cecilia's, Catherin's and La bussola.

Room Tip: La breeze has the most amayzing view!

My fiance and I got the master bedroom (of Aloe Villa) which had an amazing view! It came with a king size bed with mosquito net which we found out later to be very useful. Most of the windows came with mosquito netting except for the two windows overlooking the sea. The windows which overlooked the sea could not be shut and at night, the wooden window panels made loud banging noises as it gets very windy at night. The noise (and mosquitoes) kept me awake on the first night. Our room could use with a fan as some days the room got rather warm. The bathroom/ toilet came with a shower room and a bath which we didn't make use at all as the island is experiencing water shortages. Even though Marco said it wasn't mosquito season, we were beaten badly in our rooms and the living room. However Marco was more than ready to provide us with insect repellants once I informed him about the mosquitoes. When we arrived, the wifi connection was not working neither was the TV (which was the least of our worry). We fixed the internet connection and a new TV came days later. The overall condition of the villa is rather run down and could be improved.

Dear JeanKhoo,
First of all I would like to say Thank you for your feedback and comments and my apologies for taking some time to respond to your review.
You would be happy to know that meanwhile, there have been a lot of improvements made and the inside shutters can now be locked, even though the concept is to leave the windows wide open, to enjoy the breeze and the view of the sea, and guests do have the large mosquito net for added protection. With regards to water shortages, the government has fixed the issues, however in general, we have a large reservoir of water below the house that could last a good while, and yet still do ask our guests, like most hotels do, to conserve water where possible.
Based on your review, I have contacted the internet provider that supplys our guesthouses now with double speed and a better service. It is important to know that the house is not new, but is full of character and in a mediterraenean style, with all the basic amenities, its own private pool with breathtaking views. Other guests have described this villa as an idyllic place and one to die for. So I do hope if you should return to Antigua and Galley Bay Cottages again, that we have the opportunity to make your experience an even better one.

Thank you again and hope you are keeping well.
Best Regards from the sunshine,

Marco

It's a few years ago since I stayed at Peter and Natalie's. I visited three time and thoroughly enjoyed myself. They are the most perfect hosts you will ever meet. They go that extra mile to please you, nothing is too much trouble. The interior of the guest houses are beautifully arranged. Galley Bay beach is so tranquil. I always hired a vehicle to get about, which is great fun, especially if you have a jeep.
I must return one day!
High recommended.

From our very first email correspondence our hosts Peter and Natalie were so helpful, informative, friendly and FUN!!! After having cancelled a previous reservation elsewhere on the island we were thrilled that we booked at Galley Bay Cottages.
We had flight delay issues that left us arriving a day and a half later and in the dark (11pm).....once we landed in Antigua the rest of our vacation was smoooooooth sailing. We had rented a jeep through Titi Car Hire (GBC's recommendation) and were so glad we did. Titi himself met us at the airport and drove us to the cottage where our rental was waiting (you will need someone to guide you to the cottages, finding them yourself will be next to impossible). We took care of all the paper work on the patio! Both Titi and GBC's allowed us to bump our week up by a day with no additional charge, so we did end up getting a week’s vacation!! Peter and Natalie even stocked our fridge with the necessities to get us through the evening and the next morning until we could hit the grocery store!! The next morning Peter greeted us with fresh papaya and a few stories........after corresponding with him prior to our arrival we felt like we were long lost friends. He then took us to town to shop. Since we arrived in the dark we had NO idea where we were going. Spending the morning with him was invaluable. We learnt how to get to the Epicurean (large grocery store), the "local" grocery store (better prices but quite limited) and the produce market. The produce market is a MUST and I strongly encourage you to try the local fruit; golden apples(not apples at all), dum fruit, passion fruit, papayas, black pineapple and you can't leave Antigua without having some refreshing (unsweetened) coconut water, sold on the side of the road!!! Not only did Peter show us where to go (and not to go) he taught us so much about the island and the history of the island. It would have taken us months to learn what he taught us! You cannot put a price tag on that!
The cottage itself (the Breeze) was exactly what is shown. It is MORE than enough room for two people. Open concept kitchen/living area, large separate bedroom with plenty of storage space for your clothes and luggage. The bedroom window is something I have been dreaming about every day since I have been home. It is right above the bed and the view is breath taking; the brilliant blue waters, the lush greens, the warm breeze and the sound of the waves. Can you imagine a better way to wake up in the morning?!?!? The walk to the beach is less than 5 minutes. When we go away we always want to be as close to the beach as possible but in this case because of the elevation, the view and the breeze we couldn't have asked for a better location. I will say that navigating around the property and accessing the beach may be challenging for some. There are quite a few stairs and some steep slopes. We did it no problem, but just a heads up! We did spend some time at "shell" beach and Galley Bay beach and loved it but with 365 beaches in all of Antigua it is hard to stay in one place for too long~there is way too much to see!! We highly recommend renting a vehicle, we just can't see how you can see and/or appreciate the whole island without one!
Recommendations;Darkwood Beach, Long Bay, Johnson's Point, Deep Bay, Jolly Harbour, Nelsons Dockyard and Cecilia's for dinner (reservations a must).
There is so much to see, so much beauty, and so much to do one week is not even close to being long enough. I would recommend picking a few spots that you REALLY want to see and just figure the rest out when you get there.
Antigua is not just a vacation destination; it is a lifestyle, a culture. So friendly, so safe, so beautiful. It is the kind of place where you want to return to again and again. A place where you want to grow old.......
If it had not been for Peter and Natalie we never would have experienced the "true" Antigua. We cannot thank you enough!
We WILL be back to Antigua and Galley Bay Cottages!!

Antigua is a beautiful and peaceful place and to me Galley Bay Cottages is the only lodging facility that blends perfectly with the island's graciously laid-back spirit. The cottages are grouped along a quiet road, cleverly spaced along a gorgeous main path that provides extra charm and privacy to the place. Walk five minutes down the hill and you'll stand on Galley Bay's beautiful beach, instantly realizing why so many fashion photoshoots happen there. Now back to the cottages! Breeze is definitely my favorite. Being the foremost location it has a broad view of the ocean, and plenty of space to have dinner outside while the sun sets. It's also very private so it's perfect for a romantic getaway! The interior is spacious, comfortable and decorated with a tasteful simplicity that makes you feel at home in no time. I doubt any of the island's full-fenced villas provide such an experience, at such a reasonable price. To top it off, friendly owner Natalie and her staff discreetely took care of the basics while providing tips that made us discover wonderful, uncrowded corners of the island. Ah! writing this makes me want to go back!

Our first experience at Galley Bay Cottages was so pleasant we have returned for 12 years. The cottages are nestled into a hillside overlooking a beautiful beach with a private little cove at one end. During our 12 years we have stayed in all 4 cottages at various times and enjoyed all of them for different reasons. When family comes to join us we have occupied 3 out of the 4 cottages which are connected with pathways. They are clean and decorated beautifully with the perfect mix of old and new and a real carribean feeling. We like this particular area because of its close proximity to St. Johns and good resturants. If we choose to stay in, we dine outside on a deck with a spectacular view. The kitchen is fully equipped. The proprietors are lovely and couldnt be more helpful and accomodating in every way. We think of it as our home away from home.
