“Not enough beach time”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2014

We booked this tour from a beach side tour operator and paid for it at the port. The catamaran ride takes 2 hours, not the 90 minutes as advertised. Take medicine an hour in advance and stare at the horizon for your ride to prevent motion sickness. Several people got sick on our trip. The staff are hospitable and the captain is very professional. Drinks are not included in your price and there are no snacks (they were even out of some drinks from the start!)
When we arrived at the port, the island basically looks deserted. Not much is there, but our guides were waiting to pick us up (and yay, drinks!) There were 11 of us in 2 vans. Our guide John was great!! He shared many facts and history about the island. First he took us to some caves, then the frigate bird sanctuary, then the beach for snorkeling and lunch, with each portion taking about an hour. To get to the birds, you are taken to a lagoon and transported by boat to see the birds. There are unsanitary bathroom facilities there, and no food for purchase. It was mating season and fascinating to see the male birds bringing attention to themselves, but skipping this and watching a video might be good too. By the time we arrived to the beach for lunch, it was 2:30 and the kids were starved, with just one hour to play on the beach before heading back to the boat. Food was island-style grilled fish/chicken/lobster salad, cole slaw and cookie, rum punch, beer and sodas. The food was really good! The sand is NOT pink. The beach is covered with tiny beautiful pink shells, but the sand is, well, sand color. Don't bother bringing your snorkel gear-there's nothing to see. Just use your time to relax on the beach. We paid over $400 for this excursion for a family of 3, not sure if it was worth the cost.

“DON'T EXPECT PINK SAND!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2013

The 90 minute crossing takes 2 hours each way. The drinks were not included in the price. Even though they told us they were at time of booking. The Barbuda Express was a little rough for 5 - 6 ft seas. Take Dramamine for motion sickness. This is a must especially with little kids. Captain Gregg was nice and professional. Parents need to bring plenty of snacks for kids. Lunch was 3:00 everyone was starving by then. The bird tour and caves are interesting. The bathrooms at the bird sanctuary are unsanitary. No toilet paper and no water to wash your hands. Each takes an hour. Which leaves you less than 30 minutes for beach time. They told us snorkeling was included. Visability was less then 2 ft. Nothing to see!!! Not even any shells under water. The chicken meal was delicious. The tour guide man was nice and very interesting. The sand was the same as in Antigua with an occasional pick small shell half the size of your pinky nail. A big disappointment for a family of 4 costing $488.00

“Complete Waste of a day!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2013

Nothing is included, although we were told it was. After being on a water taxi too small to be out that far in the ocean for 4 hours(2 hours each way), we saw something that might be construed as pink sand. We had 1/2 hour on the beach. No drinks, the lobster lunch, which we paid extra for, was cold. Not enough water for everyone to drink. The birds were okay but not worth losing a days vacation for. Get the wildlife video on frigate birds and you've seen it all.

“Just another beach, not that pink”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

Just another beach not worth the $300 to get us there and back, the sand is barely pink, just stay at your resort for the day and save your money.
