“Explore Barbuda”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2014

We went on the explore Barbuda trip and booked it direct not through a third party so they offered a $10 per person discount and as there were 5 of us it made it worth while
Anyway about the trip they told us as we set off the seas were average but the 1.5 hr crossing was like a really long roller coaster ride when we arrived at Barbuda there were small local boats that carry about 8 people were waiting the boat owners are also very knowledgable guides and also very Eco friendly making sure they do not damage the mangrove they cut there engine and get out and push if needed as a result the can get you very close to the frigate birds
On our return lunch was waiting which was simple chicken or fish with rice or pasta and salad and of course the bar was open the whole day
The crew were great happy and helpful making sure that my 83 year old mother in law was well looked after and moved her to a better seat on the roller coaster ride back when she was getting back
I would have given a 5* rating if the sea had been calmer but that is not really the fault of the Excellence crew

Good Day,

Thank You for taking the time out to write that review on our business. We do apologize for the rough waves that day but it was of no control of our own. Glad to hear that the crew was joyful and helped your elder mother in law by making sure her special needs were met. Glad you enjoyed the guided tours to the frigate bird sanctuary - those guides are very knowledgeable of the birds and their natural habitat. Hope you do get to make it back one day and enjoy our small but beautiful island - ANTIGUA!

“Good but expensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

The trouble with expensive holiday excursions is that the slightest problem can make the difference between enjoyment and aggravation. The Excellence holds around 100 passengers and as there were three cruise ships in St Johns on the day we went there was not a space to be had. The weather was cloudy and wet to begin with and as we pulled in at Sandals (about 20 mins in to the trip) I have to say we would happily have got off if we could have got our money back. Glad we didn't though as the sun came out and everybody cheered up enormously.

The crew were excellent and professional, the bar was open throughout for rum punches etc and the snorkelling was quite good.

The boat takes a clockwise route round the island. I mention this because you MUST sit on the starboard (right) side of the boat. This way you can see the island and understand the commentary, which was amusing and informative. Sit on the left and you'll just spend two hours looking out to sea!

Lunch was quite good and the entire round the island trip lasted about 5 hours. Recommended to anyone who isn't too worried at spending US$110 each. If this is at the top end of your budget, look for alternatives. For $100 you can hire a four seater car for two days and the other three go free!

“A disaster Beware”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014 via mobile

We reserved on paid for a trip with Sandals Tour desk on Monday. The Barbuda trip was due on Friday.
The boat was to pick us up at Sandals beach.
So we went there on time and to our horror and disappointment our names were not on their passenger list. The Sandals agent was there too
And our names were indeed on her list.
Excellence still refused to let us board claiming rudely that they were full. So the boat just left us standing
On the beach. Very disappointed because we were expecting to see beautiful Barbuda. To compensate Sandals did gave us a free evening Catamaran ride. We would have preferred Barbuda.
My only explanation was that Excellence over books their boat and if a lot of people shows up they just bounce off rudely a few passengers.
I later talked to a taxi driver and he confirmed that this is a common practice with Excellant-Antigua.
So BEWARE

“What a fantastic trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014

We had a great day out on the Excellence circumnavigation of the island. It included plenty of drinks - both non alcoholic and alcoholic, a lovely barbecue lunch whilst tied up on a beautiful island, and a guided snorkel trip off the beach. One part of the island was bumpy and rough due to windy conditions, but this only lasted 20 mins or so. The toilets were clean and roomy, the staff were friendly and the commentary was amusing. Highly recommended.

“Waste of time and money”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2014 via mobile

Save yourself money and enjoy a nicer beach by staying on Antigua. After a miserable and very rough boat ride we were given the opportunity to walk, swim, and frolic on the beach or go to the bird sanctuary. We are not interested in birds, but love the beach so we chose beach. The waves were much rougher and the beach much steeper than the north shore of Antigua. We are not sure what the draw to this beach was, but we were disappointed. Lunch was good, then more crappy beach time before boating to the mystical pink sand beach. Oh, wow, pink seashells broken on what looks like a hurricane ravaged beach complete with busted up homes and buildings. They acted like this "pink beach" was the best thing since cheese on bread, but everyone we spoke with was disappointed. On a side note, the staff and boat were great, but the concept of this excursion is bad.
