Keeping in mind that the rates are very low compared to beachside hotels, this is a pretty good deal. Our one-bedroom cottage (all the "cottages" are actually attached condo units, not freestanding cottages) was spacious, with a mini-fridge and 4 burner range/oven & microwave. Upstairs was a bathroom and sleeping loft with queen bed. The grounds were lovely, and it was a 5-10 minute walk (down and across the road) to the beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The negatives: the cottages are rather cheaply built, the bed not very comfortable, and the lighting abysmal (why do these places have to put 30-40 watt bulbs in the lamps?). But, considering the cottage was only $150/night, and the kitchen allowed us to avoid restaurants for breakfast & lunch, who can complain?

Have just come back from two weeks staying at the Cottages. For the time of year and having looked around I know that we couldn't have choosen anywhere better. Cottages are extremely well maintained as are the pool area and the gardens. Staff are friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have a good time. For the location I would recommend hiring a car although taxi's are cheap and come quickly hiring a car will give flexibility. There are great restaurants close by Pari's over the road, The Beach restaurant and bar just past Sandals at the end of the beach and Coconut Grove just down the road. About 10 minutes by car from St Johns you can do as little or as much as you like. Would highly reccommend.

My family just returned from our vacation, staying a week at the Dickenson Bay Cottages. The accomodations were above average and a great value. The beach and ocean were fantastic. The weather was all you could ask for.

We stayed 2 nights in late March 2005, and found Dickenson Bay to be charming.

Room: spacious and clean with full kitchen.
Exterior: grounds are groomed and buildings well maintained; all rooms have lanai with table and chairs.
View: limited view of ocean
Room Amentities: well appointed but kitchen lacked ice and paper towels (ice available at The Beach restaurant)
Location: 5 minute walk to beach (steep hill); restaurants available within walking distance (pizza across the street and The Beach mentioned above--10 minute walk); some groceries available at Antigua Bay Village--also 10 minute walk).
Nicole (manager) is friendly and works hard to see that guests' needs are met.
We really enjoyed our stay at Dickenson Bay!

We stayed at the Dickenson Bay Cottages for 4 nites. Cottages are extremely roomy (we stayed in a one bedroom- not sure a/b the 2 bedroom option). We were surprised to find a TV as well! Kitchen was clean, bathroom could have been a bit cleaner, but overall very nice. While at the Cottages, the tires off our rental car were stolen (this had NOTHING to do with where we were staying) and the receptionist at the Cottages could not have been more helpful. She contacted the police and the rental car company and we were up and running in a few hours. Cottages sit on a hill - an easy walk down to the beach and nearby restaurants. Will certainly return next year.

On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and showed immediately to our one bedroom cottage. There are only 14 on the complex so the accent is on small and friendly surroundings. You could be forgiven for thinking they had used a fish-eye lense to enhance the size of the pool on the website but other than that, everything else was exemplary. Staff, including maids, handy-man and pool guy were all so friendly always chatting and more importantly helping us to have a superb stay. The cottage had a bed deck and an upstairs bathroom so 4 sharing could be quite a friendly experience (using the sofa bed in the living area). We were 3 people sharing and it was fine - no problem cooking as the kitchen is fully stocked and eating on the terrace was great for those nights after the night before...er...

There is internet access for those who find it difficult to ditch the business pace of life and check the emails from the office.

The cottages are next to the Rex Halcyon Grove (be thankful you're not staying there!) but it is an easy walk through their grounds to the beach and the bars along the beach. Prob shouldn'd slate the Rex too much but we saw a brown rat outside a room and the storm drain next to the beach was very smelly! They did however order us taxis and they had the nearest shop which was handy for emergency booze missions...

All in all, Dickenson Bay Cottages provided us with a great holiday location and we came back thankful for the peaceful suroundings and efficient service. Book in advance as I have a feeling that this place will get more and more popular. Brilliant.

ps nightlife in Dickenson Bay is limited - try Abracadabra in English Harbour on a Saturday. It's like stepping into Ibiza and open til 5am. check on the Antigua Nice website for details of what's on (great website!)No probs getting a taxi and the drinks were cheap! Bit dodgy to start with (posh folk quaffing champagne and dad-dancing) but it soon picks up and the party starts.
