“Blue Waters Resort made our Vacation and sons' Wedding Celebrations unforgettable”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

We only stayed at Blue Waters resort for a 1 week Virgin Holiday in late April and having read other pre-2010 reviews on tripadvisor were apprehensive about the quality of service and relatively remote location. We were 4 of a 9 strong wedding party and unfortunately our arrival from the airport and initial reception at the hotel did not go well! We arrived later than planned due to congestion at the small airport terminal (new and bigger one under construction!) and a poorly managed, bumpy transfer in the rain to find that the hotel had not been advised about our room and board requirements so were simply unprepared; The hotel management had, apparently, not been provided with the correct information about our stay by Virgin Holidays. Luckily we were prepared with full documentation (always a good plan.)

However, the management soon turned the situation around and they found us a very suitable two bedroomed suite elsewhere on the campus. From that point onwards our expectations were met on all fronts. Our concerns disappeared as quickly as the rain. The accommodation, three excellent restaurants, food and drink, very friendly staff (including management team) tropical gardens, private beaches with fantastic views of the Caribbean make the overall experience hard to beat. The wedding of our son to his new wife went like clockwork down to the finest detail - all due to the efficient and courteous staff. We very quickly forgot the world outside (of the manned security barrier) seen only during 3 excursions and the from the airport shuttle van (with seats and windows!) Local amenities are sparse - we only saw one restaurant on the way to St Johns (KFC) so without private transport the hotels 'All Inclusive' meal plan remains the best option especially for a young family.

Maintenance and cleanliness of rooms varied with who did the work but generally standard was high. Same with gardens, walkways, beaches, restaurants and pools (unfortunately we didn't have time to visit spa) with staff working from dawn 'til dusk - especially during preparations for a wedding ceremony where they start work at least 1 day in advance.

We would like to revisit the resort again in the future but like 'rob234' would arrange our own itinerary given the initial experience (which was unfortunately similar on the return journey to the airport!) We owe much of our great resort experience to Blue Waters management and their excellent teams.

Room Tip: Best rooms are, without doubt, those fronting the sea above ground level and some can be way back be...

Blue Waters Hotel is an amazing place, and the staff is the best I've ever encountered. Everyone was so friendly, the food was excellent and the general atmosphere of this hotel just made us feel like we belonged there. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visitng antigua.. Its literally 15 mins from the airport and from the capital. And make sure you have a strawberry daquiri at The Pelican Bar, its the best I've ever had.

We stayed at Blue Waters in April 2013 as a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids) and had one of the nicest and most relaxing holidays we’ve ever had. But it did start with a scare!

We booked via Kuoni over the phone as we wanted two interconnecting rooms and one of them with single beds for the kids. We also wanted a private or shared pool and we were very specific about this (if you’ve got kids you’ll understand the attraction of having a pool local to your room!).

Kuoni confirmed all the requirements by email and demonstrated the accommodation by pointing us at the Pelican House on the Blue Waters web site. It looked amazing so we paid up (a significant sum) and they sent the travel docs through.

On arrival at the hotel the management team greeted us and took time to introduce themselves and shake hands (nice touch). But after check-in we realised that the rooms allocated were not interconnecting and after many hours of traveling that’s not what you want to hear.
However they quickly checked their availability and found a hill side villa and took us to the room. When we arrived we were disappointed, the room wasn’t plush like the web site Kuoni had directed us to and it didn’t have a private or local shared pool. I mentioned this to the porter and he spoke with reception, shortly after the manager of the hotel called and we discussed what Kuoni had promised, I then asked to speak to the Kuoni rep and the manager said she would see what she could do. Minutes later the manager arrived at our room and took us to a Cove suite that had a shared pool and three bedrooms, she explained that the suite was due to be cleaned that night so we couldn’t have it until the next day.
The suite was absolutely stunning, beautifully decorated and furnished – I was concerned that there might be an upgrade cost, but when I asked the manager said it was her gift to us…….WOW, how often does that ever happen??? Seriously impressed!

We then went on to have a fabulous holiday, everything was perfect, pools, beach, food – faultless.

The hotel has three restaurants, one buffet and two fine dining and once a week a bar-b-q. Food varies from fantastic curries, catch of the day fish, steak, pasta and amazing salads. They also offered kids meals, chips, burgers etc and Heinz ketchup so if you have fussy kids you’ll be fine. Oh and if you go there make sure you try the rum custard, it’s absolutely amazing!

The gardens are beautifully maintained throughout and I took some epic photos of the beach area and sunsets. As a wedding venue it would be amazing as they have a small rocky outcrop (you can see it in my photos) where you can be wed and the backdrop is stunning.

As a Cove resident we had a shared pool (very quiet indeed, most days we had it to ourselves) that comes complete with your own bar person, drinks delivered to the sun bed! The hotel has a further three pools (one adult only) and a big stretch of sandy beach with loads of sun beds available.

They provide a huge fridge in the room that you can order alcohol and soft drinks to be delivered to for the next day, all spirits and wines are include in “all inclusive” and they even offered to get things not on the list “just let us know and we’ll arrange it” they said.

They obviously have mosquitos there and whilst they do fog from time to time you do want to take repellent etc.

WIFI was freely available and speed was very good.

Excursions such as snorkelling, deep sea fishing, harbour visits and shopping excursions are all available through the hotel/ tour operator.

The drive from the airport is around 20 mins by private transfer.

In conclusion if you’re looking for a fabulous hotel in the Caribbean you’ve just found it!

The entire family agreed that we would 100% stay at Blue Waters again but we’ll book direct and not though Kuoni! (Kuoni never got in touch to discuss their mistake even though the rep said they would).

Finally, a massive thank you to all the staff and in particular the manager at Blue Waters for giving us such a wonderful family holiday. We’ll see you again soon!

Room Tip: Any Cove suite is epic!

We were there after the Spring and Easter crowds had moved on, so the resort was quiet, with only a handful of families with young children. It is remotely located, which is the case with many of the resorts on Antigua, but the island is small enough that you can get from one end to the other in about 30 minutes (over some bumpy roads). The resort sits in a small cove, with relatively calm, shallow water, and we made plenty of use of the free hobie cats and kayaks off the beach. The two pools are nice.
The staff was wonderfully friendly and helpful, with molasses-like speed, typical of the Caribbean. We got to know a few of them, and they always cheerfully greeted us by name.
The rooms are well kept, given the harsh tropical environment. The bathtub/shower arrangement was a bit tight, but the rooms were clean, and the much needed air conditioner worked very well. The restaurant was pricey, but if you are on the all inclusive plan that won't be a concern. We were interested in exploring the island and trying other restaurants, so didn't opt for the inclusive.
The resort was a good value relative to other options, and recommended for low key getaway.

Room Tip: If you opt for the beachfront rooms, the upstairs rooms are a little nicer.

We arrived at Blue Waters on the Sunday 14th April, as soon as you arrive you are greeted by friendly faces, complimentary cold flannels and either a rum punch or fruit punch. It took around 10 minutes to check in, then we are hopped onto a gold buggy to take us to our room. The staff that show you to your room are very knowledgeable about the hotel and the island. We were coming in for a wedding, and soon as we settled we were advise that every Sunday there is a place to go at night called Shirley Heights. This is a massive tourist attraction, and I advise you that if you are here on a Sunday night you must go!!! The night is packed with music from steel drums to bands, a massive barbecue, stalls where you can get jewellery, and have drinks. It is on top of a mountain and the views are incredible! It is around$20 US pp for a taxi.

The staff at Blue Waters are incredible and we made great relationships with them. Our friends got married on the Tuesday, and I have to say that the wedding coordinator, Mandie is amazing and is fantastic at her job! She was with the couple 24/7 and made sure there day was perfect... which it was. She was able to arrange things that they wished to have on their day and was always around if they wanted to speak to her.

My boyfriend and I went and did Stingray City, which is about half an hour away. This is a must activity to do! And we believe it is worth the money. You spend just over an hour in the sea and there are around 5 - 6 professionals with you, who will get you to hold a stingray, feed them and have photos with them.

The food at Blue Waters is beyond amazing! We mainly went to The Cove and Palms restaurant. The food at The Cove is to die for and comes out looking fabulous and the tastes are gorgeous, Also you look out onto the sea which is beautiful at night. Palm Restaurant, has something different every lunch and dinner time.

One thing I was very impressed with was that my nephew who turned 1 out there has an allergic reaction to dairy and protein. My sister in law was able to go to the chefs to ask what was in the food, and if it wasn't what he was able to had, they cooked anything that she asked for.

My nephew didn't stop eating here!

This is an incredible place to have your wedding and to have a get away for you and your partner. We will be coming again!!

We stayed in a lovely beach front room (block 100) where we had complete privacy and could hear the ocean as we drifted off to sleep each night. The staff were extraordinary and really make this hotel special. To a person they were always helpful and friendly. They knew our preferences within a day and really made us feel special.
The beaches and water sports were great fun. We learned to sail the Hobie cats and went snorkeling a couple of times too (just ask at water sports). Short trips out were arranged very efficiently by the concierge and having the catamaran arrive at the BW beach to take you out for the day was fun.
The food was lovely and generally varied we would especially recommend the Cove Restaurant; which has a spectacular view (ask for a waterside table!)
We have traveled all over the world but BW is a place we will return to as soon as we can.

Room Tip: Beach front block 100 is the quietest and the path in front is only used to get to Water sports and...

I could wax lyrical about the tranquil setting, the incredibly attentive staff, excellent amenities; instead, to convey our love for Blue Waters, I need only say that we're a very lucky couple having travelled extensively, and try as we might we can't find enough reasons to visit anywhere else for our main annual holiday. Blue Waters is simply the best with staff that we are now fortunate enough to consider our friends. Can't wait to see you guys again this year!
