“Another great vacation at Coconut Beach Club”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

We have stayed here before, so know pretty much what to expect and as on previous visits we are never disappointed.
The welcome extended by all staff to us as repeat guests is lovely, its a bit like coming home after a long trip.
We had no problems with sand fly or mosquito bites, we used M&S Formula 50% deet repellent which was the best we have ever used, however some guests feel that insect bites are the hotels fault, the hotel cannot be blamed in any way for insect bites, Antigua is a tropical island and insect bites are par for the course.
We met 4 or 5 other repeat guests who we had met before which was a nice surprise and also met some other lovely people from around the world.
We booked the Excellence circumnavigation with Frenchie and I must say it was one of the best trips we have ever been on in the Caribbean.
The food at CBC was of a particularly high standard for what after all is a 3* hotel, the kitchen staff will, if asked prepare food just the way you want it, Tyrones Lobster Thermidor was superb, thanks Tyrone.
Yes, the CBC is a bit tired around the edges but thats part of its charm, that and the amazing staff who cant do enough for guests, we thank each and every one of you and look forward to seeing you again soon.
We found the sunbeds plentiful and comfortable and never had to reserve early mornings as in so many other hotels, there are some with cushions near the pool which another reviewer obviously did'nt spot !
All in all a great holiday, would we return ? definately yes asap !
The only downside was a middle aged woman sunbathing topless on the beach which spoilt the beautiful view of the Caribbean from the bar/pool area, hahaha never mind, it takes all sorts.
Thank you CBC, see you again soon and some of those diehard repeat guests, see you soon too.

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms are lighter , have more privacy and better views.

We've just got back after two great weeks at CBC.
First impressions of the resort were that it is very run down, as we found out later it is subsiding. It was very clean though.
Occupancy was very low when we got there which was great as everyone spoke to everyone else (something that does not happen in the larger resorts).
The staff were all fantastic, very friendly and took time to speak and interact with the guests. The only blot on the landscsape was a guy called Frenchy, who was targeting almost everyone to book trips with him as soon as they had checked in, some people were ok with this but others not so. I have to add he is an independant and has nothing to do with CBC.

Being such a small resort meant everything was close together which was rather nice.
The beach was lovely and only a stones throw from the rooms and bar. The only down side was lots of broken sun loungers and they were so uncomfortable especially if you are laying on them most of the day, which is what most people were doing. I am still suffering from a bad back 6 days on, cushions would be a major improvement, (management please take note, that is if you can tear yourself away from all the frequent returners!!!). There is a fantastic infinity pool unfortunately it was not thought out properly and looks as if it's just been stuck beside the bar, there is no where for anyone to sit around it , so it is wasted really.

The food in the restaurant was great, choice of cereal, full English (scrambled eggs every day but if you want fried or poached just ask) or continental for breakfast. Three choices at lunch time and an al a carte for dinner, dinner was most days verging on 5* excellence. The menu is done on a 14 day rotation so we never had the same meal twice which was lovely.

This review may seem a bit negative however we had a lovely time mostly due to the people we met plus Jahilda, Tanzia and Samantha on the bar and Brenadette in the restaurant.

Would we go back??? Probably, if they sorted out the sun lounger situation and we can find an alternative to deet as the mossies and sandflies were rife!!!

I travelled with my husband and 14 year old son. We chose this venue as it was small, knowing that only children over 12 were catered for. Arriving during a spell of rain made first impressions a little flat but the welcome from the staff, with cocktail on arrival lifted our spirits. When the sun shone the place was beautiful. It is very old colonial in style.
- small but well proportioned!
We had a ground floor room which was spacious and comfortable. The view out to the sea was beautiful.
The hotel staff were fabulous. The food was superb with plenty of choice. The bar provided beautiful cocktails and a wide range of drinks. Evening entertainment was great.
We took a taxi into St. John's on a few occasions- best to avoid going on a day when the bigger cruise ships are in port.
The round island cruise and trip to Barbuda were both spectacular. The jeep safari with snorkelling and kayaking was also amazing.
My son had an amazing time but for him the resort was a little too quiet- we did expect this though. For a couple wanting a quiet relaxing holiday this venue is perfect.
Would love to return one day soon.
We had a bit of rain most days but they were short sharp showers and quickly forgotten when they had finished.
Overall, a perfect holiday. None of us wanted to come home after our 2 week stay.

Room Tip: Downstairs rooms perfect.

We spent 2 weeks here at the end of April and had a very nice/ relaxing holiday. The position of the hotel right on the beach is glorious.
The food was lovely we looked forward to each and every meal. The food was so varied that we never had the same evening meal twice. Breakfast / lunch were buffet and if we doubled up it
was of our own choosing.
Thank you T (Tyrone) for the delicious lobster therm-adore you specially cooked for us we can't for another.
The downside has to be the very tired rooms:(:(
Sadly for the 2 weeks we were there the hotel manageress was not! and there obviously was not a second in command otherwise there would have been a normal managers cocktail party where we could have possibly addressed some of our concerns.
Possibly due also to the manageress not being there some staff were working very hard and very happy to make our holiday special others not so eager. Such a shame
The dress code was made clear to at check in nothing that we would not expect............Sadly this seemed to be ignored and some guests were being allowed in to supper in shorts!

We chose this hotel because of its intamate size and attention to personal service by the friendly staff, from the minute you step outside of the airport, and get a personal tour of the island by the well-informed taxi driver, to your arrival and check-in at the hotel. Everything is well organized and the staff make your stay everything that you would want it to be. Frenchy is a local tour operator who is well worth a talk with if you would like a taxi, tour of the island or a catamaran trip, get a good deal and enjoy more of Antigua than just the resort!! The only negative are the sand-flies and mosquitos so take A LOT of DEET and keep yourself covered in it!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are equally good, if you have any walking difficulties then the ground floor rooms are a m...

On arrival the hotel staff were friendly and checked us in efficiently and we took our cases up to our room. I was very disappointed with the bar area as there wasn't enough seating for all the guests. Chairs were taken out of the restaurant area to use however as we had a lot of rain this meant the chairs were damp when we sat down to eat our evening meal. Also the tables in the bar area got wet and if you lent on the table it stained you clothes. When it rained the path ways became flooded and then you couldn't reach the restaurant area without getting wet or muddy. The food at breakfast was awful, the same food everyday, my husband and I ended up with jam on toast! Lunch and the evening meal weren't bad, nothing special although pudding was fruit salad everyday. The staff were very helpful although it did take 3 days to get the key to our safe - this wasn't acceptable as we has valuables with us that we had to hide in our room. The resort wasn't what we had expected.

We stayed at the Coconut Beach second week May , arrived same time as the rain , but that did not put us off as the Hotel setting is fabulous ,rustic Antiguan charm, right on the beach ,secluded and private , very relaxing if you want , but if you are a bit adventurous there is plenty to do and see .Food was out of this world , good home cooked meals , with a good menu selection every lunch and dinner , Great Staff ,rooms spotless and comfortable furniture . we had room 202a which was great , aircon worked well and very quite , fan was noisy when turned up to fast , but this was not required as when aircon was on it was quite.
Mosquitoes were a problem in the late afternoon and evening if you were out side , we used repelent and sprayed our room before going to bed.
The Hotel also took measures to keep the mosquitoes under control by fogging the hotel and ground 2-3 times a week as well as the clearners spraying the rooms every day .Remember this is a Tropical Island .
We went on a couple of trips , which we enjoyed , also hired a car and had a drive around the Island which we found very easy and enjoyable as we were able to go to sights and spend as long or as little time as we needed , found local place to have lunch and drink and chat with the locals , very inexpensive away from the normal touristy spots ,
Will definatly be going back to this beautiful Island and the CBC .

Room Tip: All rooms are sea facing , first or second floor rooms have more light , we had room 202A which was...
