Owner description: British fort looming dramatically over the shoreline, built in 1779 to protect the British island from the French.

This is a great spot for a sunset. The road getting there is not paved with a good amount of sharp rocks and it may be a bit difficult to find, so beware. When you get there, you have to cross the bridge and climb up to the fort. Once at the top, the view is really nice and it's a perfect spot for a sunset. Deep Bay is a really cute beach also with less bugs than beaches on the north side of the island. The snorkeling is hit or miss, but there's a ship wreck you can see while snorkeling if it's a clear day. I recommend an afternoon at Deep Bay and climbing up to the fort for sunset.

A tricky climb up but well worth it. Not for those with walking difficulties. Take water with you and a good camera.

This old fortress is nothing overly fantastic without a little imagination. The majority of the fort is of course overgrown with foliage and eroded with time, but walking around the grounds imagining seeing Caribbean pirates in the distance and gathering cannonballs for battle makes you realize how different life is 250 years later. Walk all the way down to the far western tip of the peninsula and revel in the isolation. Deep Bay will be to your left, gorgeous and serene. The open sea to your right, where the sun will be setting around 7:00 pm. Take your camera, and nab some great shots of the sunset - shown below. A good hike and great exercise!

There is a view like no other here, so dont forget your camera. They have a nice video presentation on the island which is informative. It is very hot and there is no shade or anywhere outside to sit down, so keep this in mind

Fort Barrington is well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. It is a short drive outside of St John's situated on a rocky headline. This Fort is essentially abandoned so don't expect facilities or even a proper path to the top. It can also be reasonably steep so probably not something for younger children. When you do get to the top though you are rewarded with some amazing views of the coastline and sea. It is very easy to understand why the Fort was located here!
