I have been to the fort a few times but my favorite was when I went on horseback. It is such a pretty setting and not too far away form the beach so it was a very pleasant ride. We actually did it on a whim. We were splashing around at the beach and saw a few people on horseback and ran up to the man running the show and within 10 min we were riding along! If you can manage it this is a great way to check the fort out

Great historical site. 18th & 19th century structures, cannon. But in real disrepair. Near some nice beaches.

It's a bit of a trip from St Johns (we walked it!), but it is one of the most untouched historical sites we've found.

The cannons remain just as they were when the British army ceased to worry about defending Antigua - and there has been no attempt to tamper with the historic buildings. It's a rare opportunity to visit an untouched historical site - with superb views, access to an excellent restaurant (Miller's), and it's just a few minutes from St Johns.

We explored Fort James whilst on the segway tour. A nice little bit of Antigua's history with a lot of the fort still intact. A few cannons still left there with lovely views out over the Caribbean Sea

Although its quite a long drive round to here, and a little uneven give it a try. The fort is out on the peninsula with great views, some cannon left, and great photo opportunities. The restaurant there has a good menu and the owner was very helpful and interesting. They are in the process of creating lodging rooms and doing other work in the fort area. If you get a table at the edge of the patio you can see all around the nearby areas, where after your meal you can watch the wildlife [Dolphins occasionally in the bay near Coconut Beach Resort]
