“Sandals Antigua”

This resort is beautiful. It's comprised of two connecting villages, the Caribbean and Mediterranean. Although the Caribbean is dated, it's age is hidden by the lush tropical landscape. The Mediterranean is new and modern and surrounds itself with equally new restaurants, shops and pool. Our room at the Mediterranean was very spacious and clean. The resort offers a good internet package for a fee and a full premium cable package. No room service, but a fully stocked refrigerator per your requests. I'm sure they would get you something if you asked. The beach and water was very nice and maintained. There are approximately 25 canopies, which are first come first serve. We went early every morning and had no problem finding a spot on the beach. The beach is small, but since it wasn't overly crowded it wasn't a problem. The sunsets on the beach are gorgeous, so plan to stay and enjoy. We just like to relax so we didn't plan any excursions. The reason why I gave this resort a lower rating is because of the food. It just isn't good. The restaurants which require a reservation aren't worth the time. We had some early reservations that we cancelled because we wanted to stay on the beach longer. The Grab n Go that offers sandwiches, hot dogs and nachos was actually very good. Mario's and the Brick Pizza Oven next door has the best cuisine. We originally reserved a "private" candlelight dinner on the beach, which is $179 + a premium wine, but cancelled that too, once we saw the setup. It's basically 3 poles stood to form an open air teepee in the sand. It's setup right outside of the cafe's patio and bar, so it is hardly private and you get the same food, so why pay more??? It's just not worth it. All of the staff was friendly, polite and very helpful. Even the locals that were selling souveniers were friendly, regardless of how many times they approached you (which was MANY times). The other guests were mainly Americans, not the friendliest bunch from NY, but we did meet some very nice people. This is a beautiful place and if food isn't a big deal then you will probably enjoy your stay..

Room Tip: The Mediterranean is newer and more spacious.

We were set to visit Sandals Emerald Bay in the Bahamas in October 2012, but Hurricane Sandy arrived at the same time. Our travel agent, Noreen Price with Lighthouse Travel, contacted Sandals the night before we were to leave and arranged for us to transfer to Antigua--at no cost to us. So, after having visited Sandals Antigua only 6 months before, we headed back for another visit.

Once again, we stayed in the Med Village and had a beautiful room with a great view. We thought about moving to the Caribbean side to get a different "feel" on this trip, but after looking at the available room, we stayed where we were in the Venetian Suite. This is not to say the room on the Caribbean side was not nice; it was. It had an ocean view and a nice patio. But it was a downgrade (price- wise) from the one we were in, was slightly smaller, and did not have the large spa tub and walk in shower we got in our original room.

We recieved a complimentary upgrade from the Soon Come Back Desk toward the end of our stay, and greatly enjoyed our GIANT new room (St. Tropez Sunset Oceanview).

The property was just as beautiful and well maintained as it was on our last visit. The staff was still friendly. The Italian Restaurant still was our favorite.

We once again made good use of the included Scuba Diving. Tiny and Danian took great care of us. Most memorably for me, my boyfriend proposed to me underwater while we were diving. Not many people can say they found an engagement ring 65 feet down. In addition to the engagement ring, we saw sharks, lots and lots of tropical fish of all sizes, barracuda, and turtles. The diving was very good.

This resort is still tied with Sandals Le Toc as our favorite. The service, property, food, and diving at these two properties were substantially better than the other Sandals/Beaches we have been to. We have also visited: Sandals Halcyon, Sandals Grande Riveria, Sandals Whitehouse, and Beaches Negril. We had a tour of Sandals Negril.

We will be back--but not until we check out Grenada and Sandals Royal Plantation!

Sandals Antigua is the perfect place for young and old alike. Paradise knows no age! We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with old and new friends. June, our housekeeper and the concierge staff went out of their way to make it extra special. Even after 7 visits, can't wait to go back! You are the best! J&J from RI

Room Tip: even if it rains, the mediterranean village rooms overlook a spectacular ocean view!

I have stayed at two other Sandals resorts, both on St. LLucia, and i can say that Grande Antigua is by far the best. We stayed in one of the Portafino walk out suites and it was amazing. All 10 of the resturants at our disposal was top knotch and the staff was friendly and polite. The pools were clean and the swim up bars didn't have that stale booze smell. Loved the place and plan on returning as soon as we can.

Room Tip: the walk-out suites make it very easy to get to the rest of the resort.

Sonia -We also spent a week at Sandals, Antigua, April 6-Apr 13, 2013. However, I can't speak any more highly of the staff and the resort! Ron and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary, and we couldn't have been more spoiled rotten! Albert!! baby, you rock!! I love the room service! The manager, Matthew went out of his way to ensure we enjoyed ourselves during the entire trip. And the Playmakers, wow!! where did you find such energetic people? Lady Stoosh, her cousin-Shante, Antonio, Emmanuel, DJ Sporty, Kevin, and my personal sweetheart, Morrison (Mojo). Frances, you guys are part of our family now!! We danced all night long. My cousin, Mandy nailed it when she said it was like a second home. Ron never participates in group activities, but their enthusiasm was so contagious. He played pool volleyball and karaoke. he not only joined, we won the cross dressing contest. He looked good in my yellow dress too. Rodney and Latoya are by far my favorite bartenders, can you say BBC? Omarie in "come back soon" made sure we were enrolled in the sandals select club, and the manager's dinner was so sweet Ron kissed me right at the table. We never felt abandoned or neglected, every concern was managed promptly and to our satisfaction. I needed the balcony spayed for mosquitos, guess what- no problem mon!! I still can't believe how this place turned my husband into the boldest, romantic man on the island. Thank you, and we'll see you next and every anniversary-our newest tradition. Kisses guys

Room Tip: Stay on the Mediterranean side. Leonard and Albert are the best!
