“Trip of a Lifetime!”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

My husband and I spent our five year anniversary at Sandals Grande Antigua. What a beautiful resort! The staff was friendly and courteous from the time we checked-in until it was time for us to unfortunately depart. Our room was gorgeous with a private pool and hot tub which was cleaned everyday. Our butlers, Kevin, Natashia and Genevia took such good care of us the entire time we were there. The resort is well maintained and groomed at all times. The beach and beautiful ocean with the evening sunsets was stunning! The food was exceptional! No matter is you wanted fine dining or just a burger at the swim up bar, the food was delicious. I would highly recommend this resort for a wedding, an anniversary or honeymoon destination. We had such a great time, that we have booked at trip to Turks and Caicos and we are taking our children to Beaches. I'm sure it will also be a trip of a lifetime for our children!

Room Tip: We reserved the Ultra Luxury Ocean Villa One Bedroom Suite with private pool and hot tub along with...

We have just returned from a 9 night holiday. This was our 3rd visit to SGA and our 6th to Sandals.
I don't really understand how anyone can complain about this place. There are some things that are beyond the control of the hotel like delayed flights, bugs, weather etc. so don't complain about that please!
We stayed on the Caribbean side which we love. We were given an upgrade to the Ixoria block, room 212 which had a wonderful view of the gardens with the sea in the distance. If we go back I would def ask for this room again, we thought it was in a perfect situation.
Breakfast a bit so so - same things every day. Amazing views if you have breakfast at Ok Corral but choices a bit limited. Lunch - at Bayside quite good, ok at Barefoot but choice a bit limited or you have the choice of pizza at Marios or there are always burgers etc to take away from the grill place outside of Bayside. We thought the evening meals were very good. You can always ask them to combine something if there are a couple of things you fancy or you have a big appetite. We thought the best meal we has was the steak night at Bayside on Monday. Nights. Also the sushi bar - try the octopus salad its amazing.
We are both qualified divers and normally love the diving but unfortunately thanks to hurricane Sandy, the sea was still a bit choppy and the viz not very good but our last dive before we left was lovely.
The traders ARE a bit of a nuisance on the beach and I also noticed a bigger presence of security guards and was asked numerous times to show my room card when trying to re-enter the property. Now I'm not sure where I'm supposed to keep this when I've only got a swimsuit on so maybe Sandals need to think about a wrist band or something!!?? The resort was at about 99% capacity and we never had any problem getting beds in the shade next to the beach but the pool at the med side always looked pretty full. More floats are needed for the pool and we saw a couple of float-hoggers in evidence! My only complaint is thatSandals seem to be allowing large group booking now and a large and noisy group on a works holiday arrived 2 days before the end of our holiday. sandals should only allow couples to book. Hope this review helps. Feel free to ask any questions.

I would highly recommend Sandals Antigua. The staff was wonderful and made our trip exceptional. We stayed on the Caribbean side of the resort and loved it!! This was our second time at this resort and 4th at a Sandals; it is well worth the extra amount you pay compared to other all inclusive resorts.

Sandals Grande Antigua

We spent 1 week at Sandals Grand Antigua from Oct. 28 to Nov. 4, 2012. Overall the vacation was very relaxing and we were well taken care of.
This is the 3rd Sandals we have stayed at. It has been highly recommended by others we have met. This Sandals consists of 3 hotel styles for rooms. There is the Caribbean side, which is smaller in its presence but this makes it more intimate and the Mediterranean side, which offers the familiar hotel style with European styling. We stayed on the Caribbean side with an ocean view. You can use all the facilities on either resorts sides and they seem to merge together anyways.
Briefly, the trip from the airport is short (around 20 minutes) and nothing to scary. Been to Jamaica, Mexico and New York, so the road didn’t scare me. Most of the roads are one lane but traffic is courteous to each other. We checked in with the Concierge service and quickly taken to our rooms.
The Caribbean side has most of the restaurants (Bayside, a la cartes: Eleanor’s and OK Corral) with the courtyard bistro during the day. The Mediterranean side has Marios, Barefoot by the Sea and Café de Paris. There is the Cricketeers Pub for late night music and food. You can eat from 7AM to 2AM on the property so you will not go hungry. There are bars all over the property and the bartenders will make you any drink you want. Remember that you are in the Caribbean and you will get the local rum, not the imports of Capt. Morgan and Bacardi. There are all other liquors as well. Our room had rum, vodka, whiskey, gin and bottles of wine so you can still have something for breakfast. The foods were good and tasty. Everyone we talked to had no complaints either. The food is very rich so if you have a sensitive stomach, be care. We did not eat at the a la carte restaurants but we didn’t miss out on good food either. Mario’s has the best antipasto bar that you don’t want the main course. Barefoot by the Sea is nice intimate location with good seafood. Bayside was nice for breakfast by the ocean and the lady at the egg station will make you whatever you need.
The property is large but easy to walk around. It offers the quiet intimate space you may want or activities you may want to get involved in. Most of the action during the day is around the Mediterranean pool or on the beach. The other pools are small and intimate. The beaches in Antigua are public but there are guards at the gates to prevent people from walking on the property. You will still be bothered by beach vendors for catamaran rides or to buy things but we didn’t find too many that were pesky. In the evening, there were some activities on both properties to keep one entertained. Usually musical acts.
The resort recommends purchasing excursions through them as opposed to buying from the guy on the beach. There is the lack of insurance and try to find a guy on the beach after you give them money is good. We did the Segway tour for 2 hours. It was a good trip and the girls were helpful. Ask questions to find out if there are any extra costs. We were surprised by the taxi fare to get back to the hotel. We didn’t do any other excursions but in hindsight, the snorkeling tours sounded good from the people who went on them. I did the snorkeling trip provided the hotel but the reef was not very good. It was free so you get what you pay for.
Overall all the property is very good. The rooms were kept clean and the grounds were neat. The workers on the property were all friendly. Ask questions because we mentioned that we needed an umbrella and they had someone bring one over to us. It was the same for the spa. There was a credit with our room purchase and they are very aggressive on getting business. Fortunately there was $100 credit to the spa and you can appreciate the purchase. A reminder to bring bug spray for the evenings. I think it was the sand fleas that left some good welts on my legs. Also bring some school supplies to donate to the local schools. Sandals is a sponsor of local schools so just ask the PR people to pass on the donations. Also by bringing the supplies, you have space to bring back souvenirs. If you like your morning coffee hot and your evening drinks cold, bring an insulated mug. The wait staff will fill them up.

Room Tip: Caribbean side is quieter and the beachview in the morning is nice.

I will start with the airport. My husband and I were greeted by Sandals by are name and the driver was waiting on us. When we got to the hotel we were welcomed by the Concierge Service, they made are dinner reservations and then took us straight to our room and made sure the stock bar was everything that we would drink including the wine and champagne. We got a phone call every night by John (Guest Services) to ask was there enything we needed and to make sure everything going to are expectation. The food was well above excellent. The pool and towels at the pool no problem alway's had a chair and towel you just need to get up a little early and claim it and you had your choice where to sit. All the staff at Sandals Grande Antigua Resort treated us with friendliest, respect I give them a 110%. Every day our bar was restocked with everything that we would ask for including Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee (No Max-Well House Coffee) what I ask for I got.
Thank you to all staff at Sandals Grand Antigua Resort for the best vacation so far.

Room Tip: My husband and I stayed in room 7420 excellent view corner suit Loved everything no complaint.

Stayed here in december and have only just got round to writing a review. The location of the hotel is stunning, my favourite part was the beach the sand is gorgeous and there are no stones or anything to spoil it. We stayed in a concierge room in the main building with a sea view and balcony, i would definately recommend this as it was lovely to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine from the fridge. The bathroom was gorgeous with huge jacuzzi bath and double shower! the food was amazing wherever you ate, i was usually still full from breakfast at lunchtime but the evening meals were gorgeous, i would definately recommend marcos and the tepanyaki. Would return to this place tomorrow.

Room Tip: upgrade to concierge

AS a return guest Sandals/Beaches. Our 1st trip to Sandals Antigua was more than we could have expected. Management,Staff, Housekeeping everyone! We recieved a call every evening from John(guest services) follow up our day and ask if any needs for next day. Thank You. My wife and I choose concierge services, no butler. This family works for a living,so butler was not needed. Read several reports om trip advisor, and must say WHAT to those with discern. beach towels are what they are figure out the resort routine and get with the program. guest services staff were great. If you are in a hurry stay home and continue the hettic pace. We have nothing but great things to say, All resort staff. went Scuba diving while there Jellyfish suck be careful. I am a proficient diver so I have been stung more than once no big deal But when staff willnot get in the water to take pictures snorkling wellthat changes things. No one wants stung by a jfish but it does happen Sea Life. Enjoyed all the food and resturants. Room awesome view awesome stayed Med.
