Darkwood beach is quiet and laid back. The surf is calm enough for snorkling or just floating around a while. The water is clear and warm. The highlight of this beach, however is the rum punch. We tried it everywhere as we explored Antigua and Darkwood beach is the best we found! Enjoy it!

We hired a car and tried various beaches on the island. All were brilliant and Darkwood beach was especially great, causing us to return three times (lovely drive through Fig Tree Drive from English Harbour). The beach was very clean(don't understand the review saying it was dirty) and was a typical picture postcard Caribbean paradise. The sunbeds with fixed umbrella (only $15) had plenty of space between them. Beach bar was fine with good value lunches available. Highly recommend!

We went to Darkwood Beach when our cruise shipped stopped here in February. 10 of us took a taxi to this beach and it took about a 1/2 hour. I believe the taxi charge was $10 US per person each way. The beach chairs were reasonably priced, but it took a little time for them to arrive. The beach has nice white sand. It was not overly crowded even though 4 cruise ships were in port. The water was lovely and refreshing, but there was a bit of a drop off once you got up to your waist. This drop off could make it a little difficult for some to get out of the water. To left, as you looked out at the ocean, you can do some snorkelling. There is a restaurant where you can order reasonably priced food and drinks and use a washroom. Many complained that the washroom was not very clean by midday. The food was good. There were some vendors that walked around, but they said there thing and moved on. None of the vendors harassed the beach goers. The taxi picked us up right at the arranged time and took us back to the cruise port with no issues. I would recommend visiting Darkwood Beach if you are in Antigua.
