“Fantastic authentic sailing experience”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

A unique traditional sailing boat with very experienced crew (the loving owners). Absolutely fantastic experience! We were greeted with home made muffins and mimosa's in the morning as we sailed to Prickly Pear Island for some snorkelling, swimming and sunning. The home made lunch we were offered there was fantastic too. Laurie and Deb took great care of us all in all, cam fully prepared with any equipment we needed, and were wonderful company too. We also felt in very safe hands as we sailed back in windy conditions. All in all a wonderful adventure and a magical experience! Recommended wholeheartedly.

“An absolute must do!!”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

What an incredible experience! This is the only vessel left of its kind and it is abundantly clear that both captain and crew proudly care for and value her. My husband and I felt so fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend our 30th wedding anniversary with these wonderful, warm and highly skilled people. There were three others on board, a young couple on their honeymoon and another gentleman who was a regular on board. An amusing and informative safety lesson from our charming captain, Laurie, then first mate Deb, sweetest woman on the planet, poured us mimosas with fresh OJ while we got under way. Our crew also included two incredible young men, Noah and Brennan. When she wasn't busy with her sailing duties, deb plied us with drinks, freshly baked muffins and skewers of fruits and we all chatted and laughed while the crew expertly guided their beloved vessel toward Prickly Pear. I must tell you that this crew is all about spoiling you and will spend time with you sharing stories and history and a love for what they do. Prickly Pear was a wonderful place where the crew continued to spoil us along with our host and bartender Alan! His wife Susan is a wonderful chef and our lobster lunch was positively delectable! While on Prickly Pear (another must do), the Tradition crew anticipated all our possible needs and were ready with towels, snorkel gear and swim noodles. They were also conscious of giving their guests privacy should they want it. While we did steal away some time, we also enjoyed their company and their humor! The ride back was windy and it was positively fascinating to watch the crew work together. It was a long day but when it was over and we were moored back at Sandy Ground none of us wanted to leave and both captain and crew indulged us for another hour just laughing and chatting and more cocktails of course. We will never forget this day as it was an absolute highlight of our trip thus far and a "must do" upon every return! Thank you from the bottom of hearts Tradition! Long may you sail!

“Best picnic/snorkel day trip in the Carribean”
Reviewed May 9, 2014

We've been travelling to the Caribbean for thirty years and have done many day trips that include lunch and snorkeling. Deb, Laurie and The Tradition are hands down the best I've seen. It's like being treated to a day of hospitality by some old friends.

Some tips/comments:
- I found more info on their Facebook page then their website, so you might want to seek that out
- We were told to meet at the pier at Sandy Ground. It was, as you might expect on Anguilla, pretty informal and there was that touch of anxiety over if we were in the right place. But... no worries, just stand around until somebody shows up and collects you. The Tradition is a red, so you will probably see it anchored in the harbor with some people milling about on it getting to ready. At some point, someone will motor in with a little boat to pick you up.
- I gathered the food was provided by the local restaurant on the island, and lobster isn't their normal fare - we were told the crew has to give the restaurant 24 hours notice if you intend to have lobster (we did and it was awesome - highly recommended). Expect to get this question when you make your reservation
- We provided a credit card to hold the reservation and paid with a credit card at the end of the day
- We were staying at Cap Juluca and the cab to/from Sandy Ground was, rounding up, $60 for the round trip. As is typical on Anguilla, the driver gave us his card so we could phone him for a pick up at the end of the day. We paid him at the end of the day. The boat crew will have a cell phone with them and will call for you at the end of the day, so no need to take your cell phone with you just for that.
- Take a little money with you, there are some chairs on Prickly Pear island that are $10 to rent for the day. There is also a cash bar there which you may want to patronize. The day we were there, the fellow running the beach chairs wouldn't take my money, saying "oh, I'm not charging anybody for the chairs today" - guess that meant that the lunch business was keeping him busy enough.
- Deb has plenty of drinks, muffins and fruit skewers on the trip over, so save a little room for those when you're eating breakfast that morning.
- Having a beach bag with your stuff in it was easy to manage - the crew has places to stow it and get it safely to you during the trip and to to the beach
- There were four of us on the boat (plus four crew) the day we took our trip - two couples, us from Cap Juluca, and another couple that was staying at Viceroy
- There were probably 50 people visiting Prickly Pear the day we were there, the biggest contingent was a big catamaran doing a day trip from St. Maarten on The Lambada.
- The snorkeling was excellent the day we were there - clear water and a really nice variety of fish - all shapes and sizes. There's a resident turtle as well, though I didn't see him. The crew provides all the towels, masks and fins, so you don't need to bring anything. You can snorkel off the boat, or the beach, or a little of both. You can swim into the beach, if you like that idea, or they can take you in a rubber dingy.
- The weather wasn't the best the day we went, occasional rain and wind, but it didn't deter from anything. Nobody got the least bit seasick.
- Maybe it goes without saying, but this is a "real" vintage sailboat and quite a different (in a good way) experience than a catamaran (double hull) - definitely something that should be on your bucket list if you've not experienced it before

“Tradition Sailing”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

Eleven of us took the lunch trip to Prickly Pear island on "Tradition". She is a West Indian wooden sloop kept in the most impeccable condition by her -justifiably- proud owner. From the moment we set foot on board until the moment we got back on shore at the end of the trip we were completely spoiled - freshly squeezed orange juice in the mimosas, home baked muffins, fresh fruit skewers. When we arrived on Prickly Pear we enjoyed an excellent lunch, snorkeling and basking in the sun. Part of our group had never been sailing and a couple of our number were experienced sailors with experience of traditional boats. Everyone had a great time. Sailing weather was glorious and while the captain certainly didn't 'dumb down' the sailing experience, even the newbies we're completely comfortable. It was a memorable day and an unforgettable experience.

“Oh what a day we had a blast”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

That was the best experience ever. I cured my sea sickness just because of the good and relaxing approach. We started off at 9 AM with Mimosas and the best ever home made muffins. The trip ended on Prickly Pear where we had the opportunity to snorcle and we got more drinks and a perfect cooked lunch. After a couple of hours on the beach we sailed back into the sunset. It was such a wonderful day. My husband had the ability to rudder us back to the harbor which was a great experience for him. This was the perfect day to celebrate our 20th anniversary being with friends and a very relaxed skipper. Whenever we come back to Anguilla we will do it again.
