Owner description: Four levels of interactive exhibits and two high definition award-winning shows tell the story of Canada's deadliest rockslide. On April 29 in 1903, 90 million tons of rock fell from Turtle Mountain and buried part of the coal mining town of Frank. Most of the 100 people in the path of the slide were killed. First-hand accounts, dramatic images and talented guides bring emotion to this remarkable and tragic event. Open daily year 'round. The town of Frank is set in the Rocky Mts, in southern Alberta, in a valley between high peaks. The interpretive centre gives an excellent viewpoint of the 1903 landslide that enveloped much of the town, a vivid sight that looks like it just happened recently. We took a half day trip from Waterton National Park. There is an entrance fee, though as it was Senior's Week in Alberta, we did not have to pay.

This was so much more than we expected. So much to see, movie was very interesting and gives you the perspective of the townsfolk. This was the most interactive centre I've ever been too. Both kids and adults would find this fun and worth the admission fee. Staff very friendly, always willing to help, even gave us a private screening of the movie as we have a 2.5 month old baby with us. Definitely worth a visit.

I used to play in the Frank Slide as a child. Back then there was little more than a sign on each side of the highway and LOTS of graffiti on the rocks. I have been to the interpretive center 4 times since it opened; and always while taking new friends to see it.
The history display in both artifacts and now, a great visual story (I want to say 'video' but that seems dating) is outstanding. After you are done in the building, there is a trail you can walk around to see the slide from this vantage point.
This is a year round facility that is worth the visit when traveling Alberta to BC on Highway 3.

We've driven along highway 3 quite a few times on our journey from Calgary to Fernie and have wanted to learn more about the story of what happened when part of one of the summits on Turtle mountain broke away and the rocks slid down the mountain burying part of the mining town of Frank. On our latest visit, we decided to pay a special visit to the interpretive centre so that we could find out more. It's an hours drive from Fernie and well worth the visit. it was almost deserted on the day we visited and because we had the place to ourselves it was easy to enjoy all the exhibits. There's a small theatre where you can watch two short films - both if which are very well done and very informative. The exhibits, some of which are interactive are also very interesting and we didn't find ourselves getting bored can often be the case in museums. The staff on duty that day were also very friendly and helpful. I can recommend this place highly enough.
