“good stay”
Reviewed August 4, 2011

This hotel was ideal for us as we were going to merthyr the next day and wanted something near by and having stayed in premier inns before and always loving it we thought this was a sure bet. And it was good, Tracey on checkin was lovely and bubbly.

Our room was on the 1st floor at the end of the corridor. It was very spacious and clean. however it didnt have a phone which we thought was odd and slightly unnerving as there was no reception on our mobiles there either. As always with premier inns the beds was comfy. the shower was good with scorching hot water and was powerful enough. not bad for £29.

next door is the brewers fayre where we had dinner which was lovely and geat value for money. staff are friendly without being over bearing. We didnt have breakfast there sadly as we had to go early.

The only thing about the hotel is that it is i serious need of a revamp. quite old building and needs a fresher look. even though the room was good, it needed modern touch. but overal good stay and great value

Room Tip: definitely eat at the brewers fayre

The staff looked after my mother-in-law very well. She was staying as she arrived at our home and due to a deterioration in her health, could not make the stairs at home, we booked her into the Premier Inn in a disabled room which was perfect for her needs.

Stayed for just one night on my way to a meeting a few miles away. Convenient for Merthyr, plenty of parking space, staff very welcoming and helpful. The room was clean, bed comfy, ample towels and toiletries available. The food at the nearby TableTable was very good and Jay, the Manager, an excellent host. At breakfast, the staff and service were friendly and unobtusive with plenty of fresh produce available incuding fruit and pastries. Plentiful supply of coffee and soya milk on request, no problem or fuss. They narrowly missed a 100% for two reasons: 1) no 'phone in the room and no signal on Orange which isn't ideal and a little worrying should, for example, one be taken ill during the night especially as the room was at the end of a corridor and very far from reception. 2nd: music at dinner and breakfast was too loud but that's personal preference I guess. Would definitely return if in the area.

We weren't expecting much with our first stay at a Premier Inn hotel and especially in the industrial Ebbw Vale however we were very surprised to find that we really enjoyed our stay. Tracy on front desk was wonderful - fun, chatty and informative and great with the kids. The room was comfy and clean and more lights than Blackpool. There was a Harvester next door where there was both indoor and outdoor play areas - great for the kids. Just don't eat there- the food is terrible. British stodge at it's very pre-packaged worst - instead eat in Abergavenny in the lovely Angel hotel. We had a few drinks and went back to our room where we read in a very comfortable bed while the children fell asleep. Breakfast was excellent - we had warm croissants, organic yoghurts and boiled eggs. We could have had as much as we wanted and Tracy was still there guiding us through. She sent us to a wonderful Museaum the Big Pit where we went down a mine - fantastic. Pity about the weather - even Tracy couldn't sort that.

Room Tip: They are a very helpful hotel just phone

We were not expecting it, but were delighted with overall quality of this hotel (way better quality than Ibis, Campanile, Travelodge and the like) Staying two nights, evening meals and breakfast were very good choice and value. Rooms were spotless, comfortable and quiet. Staff helpfull and friendly (reception especially, restaurant not so much)
Travelling through the UK and Europe for some ten years, this was the best "budget" experience yet.

We stayed at this Premier Inn while visiting Cardiff for the Rugby. First time ever in a Premier Inn and to be honest didn't expect much, after all it didn't cost much!
We were VERY surprised by the service and quality of the stay. The staff were excellent, pleasant and polite. ( having stayed in hotels that cost many times more with much poorer service!) The rooms were spotless and appeared brand new. Even with 2 adults and 2 children the family room was great for a 2 night stay.
We were a little dubious about the breakfast offer at the neighbouring pub, but it turned out to be fabulous, £7.95 per adult, children eat free and it is a genuine eat as much as much as you like! The service in the pub was fantastic, with pretty much anything you could wish for served up.
Overall a fabulous bargain, don't be put off by the Premier Inn " budget hotel" image, Crowne Plaza and Marriott could learn a thing or two off this place.

Was doing business in Blaina (15 mins car journey away) so this hotel suited perfectly. Can't ask much more for a pub and restaurant next door too!
