“Getting visitor-friendlier”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

The temples are a must for everyone who likes history and culture or architecture. For everyone else it might be boring, as there is nothing else than stones here.
It's the biggest of all temple complexes in Malta, and it is one of the best preserved. If you want to visit only one of them, this is the one. Here you can see the architecture of the buildings, and if you pay attention, you can find a lot of decoration as well. The visit can be combined with the Hypogeum, only 5 minutes from this site.
It isn't easy to find the temples, there is no public transport nearby, and the road signs lead you a little bit in circles. There is no cover to the temples yet (they will be covered with protecting tents in the future), so prepare yourself with hats or anything else, that protects you from the sun! It's comfortable to have the walkways built at the site, but that also means you cannot see parts of the temple at all.
But all in all, it's worth the time and money, we really enjoyed it!

“Tarxien Temples - over 5500 years old”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

The Tarxien Temples lie in the heart of the village of Tarxien, towards the middle south of Malta. These temples are said to be dated from the copper age over 5500 years ago. The temples are well worth visit and present no difficulty of access no matter what your age.

To get to the Temples all you need to do is to take a No. 81 or No.82 bus from Valletta and ask the driver or one of the locals where to stop for the temples. The bus stop is only 150 meters away from the temples. Fairly close to the temples also lies the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum underground temple. Only a certain number of visitors are allowed daily in the Hypogeum temple so you may wish to book ahead for this.

“great place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

Yes, that's just stone - it's not Baroque or Renaissance stuff but people made it a few thousands year ago! This temple is the one with the biggest amount of decorating elements so I thing this is the exact worth to see place comparing to the others megalitic temples

“Worth a detour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

Found the Tarxien Temples, over 5,500 years old, fascinating and interesting, well presented.

The site is in a suburb and is difficult to find if you are on public transport. Difficult to know which stop, though there are signs from the bus stop.

It was a pity that the majority of the information signs were missing. Where they were available they were most informative. To get the most out of this sight, take a good guide book.

“Very impressive!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

The Tarxien temples are within walking distance of the Hypogeum in Paola, and in my opinion should really be visited before or after visiting the Hypogeum.
Entrance is 6 Euros, but worth every penny- if you're unsure whether you will like it, have a sneak peek through the gates; you will be able to see the size of the site and hopefully decide that you would like to see the interesting details it has to offer.
Allow about 30-60 minutes for your visit; that should get you through alright and give you the chance to admire these impressive monuments.
