“Squeezed in family routine”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

A beautiful house, great potential but unfortunately we did not enjoyed it because of obvious humidity and dumpy smell (in general it is a problem during the winter season in the southern countries). Maybe winter "blues" was also a reason for an unconvincing hospitality and lack of details from the landlord's side... we felt more as trouble of a big families' daily routine. The landlady seamed nice and caring but also very busy with the household. The neighborhood is good for airport connection, but does not offer much of social and going out activities. They chose low price strategy to attract more people but there are only basic things included (an obvious thing like a warmth in the cold house will be charged extra (for switching on an air co)) and if something can be skipped will be skipped (e.g. wifi is not available in all house).

Room Tip: No ground floor, maybe upper floors have better microclimate.

Out of season so I was the only guest that night but treated as a visiting cousin, dinner with the family, very casual/relaxed, almost thought I was going to be asked to read bedtime stories (!) but great chat over home-made wine (included with dinner) with the hosts. Building: tremendous conversion of ancient "burrow" retaining original feel, cubby-holes to explore, so cosy. Location: tucked away but couple minutes walk to excellent bus service and Malta is small, easily explored. Summary: 5 Stars for the unique "real" experience I always look for when traveling

We should have stayed longer. Four days in the company of Chiara, Frank and five lively, inquisitive family certainly completed our holiday. We had our own space but a genuine opportunity sit down over dinner and talk to family and guests, learn about Malta, share tales of where we went, where to go and how to get there. And in an extraordinary 15 th Century homely setting too! Chiara and Frank have the most beautiful guesthouse/ home, with amazing attention to detail, with further plans to improve. This, for us, was a perfect location: very easy access to the transport network for day trips, Valetta and other excellent locations, a ten-minute walk to local historical sites. DON'T miss out on the evening meals with the family, the cuisine prepared by Chiara, the limoncello and " The Burrow" wines. The table discussions with Frank, guests and children. A ubig thank you.

Room Tip: PLEASE IGNORE the fitness centre and swimming pool, these do not exist. My touch screen threw a wobb...

The Burrow at Tarxien, Malta belongs very well to the complete isle. A wonderful old house, lovely restored and a nice result between old and new. Dinner together with the family is the best way, learning english again! (so, I should better fly back again) The people of Malta - especially Chiara, Frank and their kids - are very friendly and helpfull. The easiest way to travel around the isle is by bus or with the friendly taxi drivers. Valetta and Mdina are great cities, the perfect mix between old and new (very busy) in Valetta and full of history in Mdina.

I would go back tomorrow if I could! Cozy, classy and clean rooms, extensive breakfast, family dinner if desired. Privacy and quiet in spite of the whirling doings of a wonderfully adaptive and engaging family with separate quarter. The place exudes quality in every direction. I loved that it is in a small town, with access to everywhere. No need for a car. I had a bicycle. Wish I could have stayed a week!
Gloriously warm-hearted and sharp-minded hosts who give their all.

Dear Deborah,
Thank you so very much for your lovely words. It was wonderful knowing you if only for two days. I truly hope to meet you again and hopefully hear you play. It will help inspire a few :)

Very nice, authentic, old and beautiful B&B. About 450 years old. Very kind and helpful people who run this... They really treat you as being part of their family. Clean and modern facilities. Just a few km's located from Valletta old town. BR, Stephan & Sander

Clean and large rooms with nice and new furnitures. Clean and large bathroom too. Tipical Maltese building with squared stones and wood everywhere that make the house "alive" and warm!
The hosts, Frank and Chiara, were SO SPECIAL! A great family, kindly, funny, young and so on...you can feel like at home! Chiara speaks an excellent italian too.
Having the dinner all together, hosts and other guests from different country, was a wonderful and unique experience.
If you want to visit Malta then you MUST stay at The Burrow!
