“happy stay for a trip to see Hadrian's Wall”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

We were a group of 2 grandparents in the cottage and two children, one son-in-law and 3 grandchildren 12,10,8 yrs in the house. A perfect arrangement with all mod cons and a very happy stay with kind and helpful hosts. The breakfasts were superb, so the family told us - we made our own in the cottage. Plenty of info on the sites and walks around and we enjoyed it all - and the sun shone on and off! Roger helped to book us all in for supper across the road on our first evening, very good and friendly too. Welcome cup of tea and biscuitson arrival was good after the drive up from SE England. We would all love to go back ! Try Carlisle on a rainy day.

We stayed at Tantallon Cottage as a base for visiting Hadrian's Wall. The cottage has great facilities including wifi, all the comforts of home and most importantly after a long day walking, an extremely comfy bed! Everything in the cottage is to a high specification and quality, and to top it all there is Hoot the owl in the back garden. The view from the front garden across the valley is beautiful and includes a section of the wall. It is a short walk to Birdoswald and it is within easy reach of Vindolanda, the Roman Army Museum, Steel Rigg and Housesteads, to name but a few key places to visit. Roger and Lorna are excellent hosts and extremely knowledgeable if you want to know some of the wider history of the area and other places to visit, with great books and leaflets readily available. We would highly recommend Tantallon House and Cottage and hope to come back to this lovely place again.

The double room we stayed in for three nights was generously sized, immaculately clean and comfortable. The ensuite bath was hotel-sized. Mostly, Roger and Lorna were perfect hosts. We enjoyed our hearty breakfast at the table for two in the parlor with the view of the countryside and Hadrian's Wall. The location is excellently positioned for either walking or auto-touring the Wall's many forts and museums. We will return if the occasion arises.

My wife and I had planned a few days to see the Roman ruins near Hadrian's wall. Our first night was spent at Tantallon House. What a great choice that was! Lorna(owner) made us tea and biscuits when we arrived and then spent a long time telling us about all the sights to see in the area. The beds in our guest room were the most comfortable of all the beds we slept in during our trip. The room and bathroom were very clean and well equipped. In the morning , we had a wonderful breakfast and engaged in enjoyable conversation with some of the other guests.
Roger ( owner) highly recommended that we visit the Roman Army Museum and the nearby excavation site of Vindolanda--- a wonderful way to spend a few hours digging into history.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tantallon house and would recommend it to all.

3 couples stayed at Tantallon as part of our walking trip. It was our last B&B on the walking trip and by far the best ! Superbly clean modern bathrooms in keeping with the Beautiful period bedrooms. Roger and Lorna were great hosts and wow what a breakfast ! Felt privileged to stay here and would live to return!

This is a lovely house in a lovely garden. We were in a large room (Mountbatten) well decorated and very comfortable. The bathroom is very good also. We had a good breakfast with a homemade fruit salad. This B&B is situated very near the Hadrian's Wall path. They provide a good WiFi. This B&B is very good, very quiet, very well situated but still extremely expensive.

August 1 2012.
We stayed for 2 delightful nights. Our host and hostess had plenty of good information regarding Hadrians Wall and the surrounding area. The local bus picked us up right outside the Bed and Breakfast and in the evening brought us right back to Tantallon House.
The bedrooms were comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was as good as you will get anywhere. The next time we are in Northern England we will stay at Tantallon House again.
