This is our eighth visit and we are two days in. The weather is gorgeous, the properties are family and dog friendly. The bedrooms are boutique hotel style. Views from the Packhorse are stunning, as are the walks straight onto National Trust land. If you are looking for chill out time in a beautiful part of Somerset and in a lovely place, with fab hosts, then this is fthe place for you. Will be back in October.

Lyn and Brian are exceptional hosts and immediately make you very welcome, anything you need will be acted upon immediately. The accommodation is excellent, all needs catered for, having stayed in Rose Cottage and Stable Cottage can recommend them both. It is a lovely area to explore, wonderful eating places and plenty of walks. Lyn's cream tea's are the best in the area. We have stayed at Allerford many times over the years and have never tired of the area, always something new. Together with the welcome always given by Lyn and Brian it is a place that feels like home as soon as you enter the courtyard.

Room Tip: All apartments are to a very high standard

Have just returned from my third trip to The Packhorse within a year, a testimony in itself. What a gem! Fantastic apartments (I've stayed in them all at some point!), always cosily warm, spotlessly clean and immaculately furnished. Linda and Brian are the best possible hosts - always welcoming and helpful. My dogs adore their time in Exmoor too; so many places to explore and 'sniff out'. I shall be back as soon as possible!!

The Packhorse is a great place with plenty of walks on your doorstep whatever the weather. Just park your car and leave it - get the bus to County Gate ( Bus Pass !) and walk back (downhill!!) along the coastal path.

The accommodation ( warm and cosy in winter) is kept to a very high standard being constantly updated and improved. Linda and Brian have an excellent website which has all the information you need.

Cream teas are served with bubbly (and bunting!!) if you are staying at the time of a Royal Celebration so if you are lucky enough to be there in July !!!

Thank you Linda and Brian for another great holiday.

Have just returned from the Packhorse after another great week. That makes it 7 years now we have had our holidays down there at the PACKHORSE. That must say that Linda & Brian do a perfect job making sure the accommodation and your stay are memorable. We found this gem in 2006 and as we have dogs, can't resist the temptation to keep returning to explore the Exmoor areas and beyond.
You will find the apartments in excellent condition, clean, comfortable and cosy for your stay. We have tried several know, depending on the size of our group on each visit. So if you want a place to stay and self cater, this is the best. Don't just take my word for it, whether you have dogs or not give it a try. You never know you may then become a regular visitor year upon year as we do. Many thanks to Linda & Brian for looking after us again.
