Nigels isn't quite in Dolphin Square but it is close enough not to argue about it. This is only the second time that we have traveled to Altinkum but the first time of trying Nigels as a quiet drinking spot. I have to admit that we didn't eat there as we were on an all inclusive package at our hotel.
For those of us who don't need music pumping out at mega decibel level and glasses bouncing around on the table in time with the 'in-beat' this could be just the right place for you to relax and take in the local vista.
Set on the promenade overlooking the beach, in the shade of some magnificent tall palm trees you will find this wonderful and charming little restaurant and bar. We were greeted by a rather charismatic young man (who chose to call himself Jimmy Cricket? - that is where the similarity stopped) whose cheeky, quick banter draws you to the bar. Unlike so many nearby, Nigels bar is more relaxed offering a softer, more 'tasteful' music, soothing the ear as opposed bashing your ear drum to bits and spending the night in the local ENT department.
We found all the staff friendly and polite. At the drop of a hat they would take a minute or two out of their schedule to perform a quick inpromptu dance which would only serve to encourage other local passers by the join in with them on the esplanade.
Having ventured in to Altinkum on 4 occassions within our short one week stay we made a point of having a drink or two with Nigel each time as it became a relaxing place to unwind and watch the world go by (if only for an hour or so). It was also an ideal place to meet with friends due to its locality and the fact that you could hear yourself speak.
Nigel is a lovely man who took the time to enquire about our holidays, our lives and share his own family history and experiences.
If you are looking to go to Altinkum this year (or any for that matter) and you are looking for a reasonably quiet place to sit, relax in pleasant surroundings and have a drink or two this could be up your street. If not, then travel a little further along and go in to Dolphin Square where you will be spoilt with a plethora of bars but don't be suprised if you leave with perforated eardrums.
Enjoy your hols from a very satisified Nigels customer. Thanks Nigel and staff.
