“Fantastic Accomodation.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

Although my York property is rented out as I now live in Stavanger, Norway, I decided a week at Claxton Hall Cottages may be the place for me to stay with no distractions and the peace and quiet of the country, I was not wrong, this place is fantastic, a typical country accomodation with gardens to match. Carol ( owner) could not of been more accomodating, nothing was too much trouble even running me into York on a couple of occasions.
The rooms are very clean and spacious with en-suite facilities, no waiting for a 'traditional english breakfast' and a smiling face greeting you with a genuine interest in your days itinery and if she could do anything to help.
Full marks to Carol, Abigail (daughter) and Richard the head gardener ( for his humour) .

Room Tip: Just ring and speak to Carol.

We stayed for 2 nights whilst attending a friends wedding last weekend, and from the warm welcome to the beautiful rooms we were completely delighted with our stay. We all commented that it felt more like a home from home than a B&B, and couldn't recommend it enough. The breakfast was delicious, the rooms were perfect and the location is idylic, even in the rain. Thanks for making our stay in Yorkshire a little more special :)

Carol, the owner, made us very welcome, a very friendly and helpful lady.
The place was clean, welcoming and full of character.
Room was a lovely size, bed very comfortable. The cooked breakfasts each day were excellent, filled us up until early afternoon!!

I stupidly left me handbag in the room after we left and Carol was great as she contacted us to tell us and then posted it back to me in the next couple of days. Many thanks Carol!

Would definitely recommend this B& B to anyone and would certainly stay there again if up that way again.

Room Tip: We had room no. 1 which had the 4 poster bed in it. Lovely view out of windows, quiet and a lovely si...

Me and my partner stayed here when a friend got married at Sandburn Hall.
The B&B has a minimum 2-night booking, but we were only able to stay for one of these nights and had problems checking in due to traffic congestion prior to the ceremony.
Carole was fantastic, she left our key in the room door and told us to simply enjoy the day, there was a bed waiting for us at the end of it!
Sure enough, we staggered into a beautiful room, with a four poster bed, wide screen TV and big shower and had a brilliant night's sleep.
Breakfast the following morning was delicious, and exactly what we needed after what had been a heavy night!
The only drawback to it's location with regards to Sandburn Hall is the fact it costs £18 in a taxi, to make the 3 minute journey. Carole, however, kindly ran us back to Sandburn Hall in the morning to collect our cars.
A really lovely stay. Such a shame we could only stay one of the two nights we'd booked. Thank You!

It's difficult to add anything to what has already been written about this fantastic B&B.
For us, it's just like coming home. We've been coming here since 2002 and have never been anything other than fully satisfied. Clean rooms, clean bathrooms, comfortable beds, excellent breakfasts and a brilliant host in Carol. Always a warm friendly welcome and nothing is ever too much trouble.
The worst thing about Claxton Hall Cottage? Leaving.
Looking forward to next year already.

Many thanks to Carole and Julie for a brilliant overnight stay, Julie made us Tea and some lovely cake was provided which hit the spot perfectly as soon as we arrived,Our rooms were clean and comfortable the four poster beds are a nice touch.Breakfast was everything we expected and kept us going all day in York.
Location of B&B with regard to Park and Ride for York is good and the gardens were very nice and of course the weather was perfect for our stay.
Would highly recommend a stay here.

Carol is a lovely hostess... Claxton Hall Cottage is away from the noise of York, but close enough if you wanted to go shopping etc. The location and gardens are amazing: we saw a hawk and a mole!!! We stayed for two nights in the downstairs four poster room that looks over the garden, it was very clean, with some lovely touches. The breakfasts where very good.
Nothing was a bother for Carol, she meet all of our needs, charging a powered wheelchair, suggesting places to eat.. It made a great change to have such a lovely hostess and a beautiful place to say. We will be back. PS the cake on arrival was home made a ummmm.. lovely.

Room Tip: We loved the downstairs four poster garden room. All the rooms looked lovely.
