Thank you Colin and the team for another superb evening at the Ship. On Saturday 8 of us enjoyed dinner sat on the terrace overlooking the river. A great selection of fresh seafood on the specials board including Lobster, Crab and various fish dishes....As one would expect from the location looking out over the river. A superb meal and as usual excellent service. Of course we will be back.

This pub seems to have achieved the impossible! We went in very probably looking a lot like visitors and immediately felt like locals!

The staff were very friendly and Colin gets an A*, the beer was well kept, and the food was excellent. IIRC, the food was predominantly seafood - hardly surprising given its location. But the stand-out was the chips - possibly the best I've ever tasted. Apparently they're cooked in beef-dripping and that's the 'Secret Sauce'. I've had Heston Blumenthal's much-vaunted triple-cooked chips in his pub in Bray (albeit way back in 2007), and although they were nice, and probably good, they didn't quite live up to the hype.

If you are in Kingswear, this is the place to eat, the staff work hard and are very friendly, the food was value for money, but, it is not fine dining and the surroundings could do with some tlc. The curtains were torn and the place would have looked better without any curtains whatsoever, also the view into the kitchen from the dining room doesn't really enhance the dining experience. Do not let this put you off, just be warned this place has fairly good food at a fair price, but probably isn't worth a long journey for, but you will come home well fed after an enjoyable evening.

The owners of Raddicombe Lodge recommended The Ship as a dinner venue for a group of fourteen of us. We booked with Colin the landlord and he couldn't have been more accommodating. We changed the time at short notice but that was no problem. The Ship is a proper pub that serves excellent meals. The menu offers plenty of choices with fresh fish daily. We had a great night and listened-in to the quiz that was being held in the bar. Colin has a wry sense of humour and is a welcoming host. We'll definitely be back.
