“Serenity in South Devon”

There is very little we can add to the many other reviews here, except that we thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay (far too short). Accommodation, food, everything, was wonderful! The views are almost unbelievably beautiful. A big thank you to Kit and Penny for the cooking, cleaning, and other hard work which goes into making this place something very special.

The places we particularly liked visiting (all within a short distance) were Greenway, Agatha Christie's home - reached by boat from the River Dart - the house is absolutely fascinating; Coleton Fishacre, the home of the D'Oyly Carte family - surprisingly modern, with lovely gardens; the coast to the south-west, with beaches such as Slapton and Brantham; and the Dartington Cider Press, which has a great glass gallery and fantastic shops.

Two pubs to recommend: the Ship at Kingswear, and the Sloop at Brantham - but the evening meal we had at Nonsuch House was the best of the trip.

Because "a picture paints a thousand words" we've added some of our photos to this review.

All I can say is the views from this B&B are just stunning. We stumbled across this lovely B&B through Alistair Sawday's books and then by verifying the reviews in Trip Advisor. We feel compelled to write a review as we were so taken back by the place. It was certainly up there with one of our best finds. Penny and Kit make you feel relaxed and welcome right from the start. We were so impressed with the way they managed everything even when fully booked. Their attention to detail in the rooms and with the food & refreshments. They were a perfect team and at no point did you feel they were stressed or not enjoying themselves. From the moment we got there to the moment we left we felt totally relaxed. We also find the photo's we took don't do the place its best justice so we haven't posted any. It's also a lot better than it's portrayed on their Web Site. It's so quiet and peaceful with stunning views across the bay/sea and partial view of Dartmouth. We can only recommend it to be honest. There are only 4 rooms and it's a large enough place that you don't always stumble across other guests. It sounds expensive at £125 per night (High Season) but in my opinion very much worth the money... Especially the view from the bedrooms or the dining area where you can have breakfast or an evening meal... We stayed in the Plymouth and Lundy rooms and both were very nice. If you're going in the Summer then maybe ask for the Biscay room as it looks like it has a balcony which would be lovely when it's warm.

The B&B is on the Kingswear side but only a short walk and small passenger ferry over to Dartmouth. There's plenty of restaurants in Dartmouth. We went to the Seahorse which was excellent if you like fish and the area is famous for scallops which we would highly recommend as a starter there.

The B&B also offer an evening meal, we find it expensive at £35 each. So £70 for the two of you. We didn't think they made it that clear on their Web Site. However that being said it was of a very high standard. We was also surprised how many couples took advantage of this option when we were there and all very happy with the experience despite the cost. It makes sense on the first night especially if you are tired from the journey and simply want to relax at the B&B. We would certainly do it again. They have an excellent reputation and the setting (dining area) is lovely with views of the sea from every angle. We also want to add that they cook with Organic wherever possible and all their produce is local. Plus you can bring your own wine etc..

We are sure that anyone booking this, will really love this place. We can't wait to go back.

Nothing to fault this establishment. Spotless, comfy beds, the best view in Dartmouth, charming hosts and staff, great breakfast and peace and quite.

You will not be disappointed unless your idea of a hotel is big, brash and souless with valet parking and a burger king right next door. Here you walk 100 yards to a fantastic little pub, the Ship Inn.

The brief sojourn along the coastal walk (from the front door) is a perfect start to the day!
