“A beach cafe with excellent food even for vegetarians”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

It had been a perfect morning on the beach. Blackpool Sands is beautiful with a clean beach, clear blue water and excellent facilities. We went to the Venus Cafe for a quick snack and ended up having a great lunch. Despite it being near to the end of lunch service the staff were friendly and welcoming. The menu is really a surprise with lots of locally sourced and organic ingredients. We are all Vegetarian and three of us chose the homemade tofu burgers. Made from tofu, beetroot, carrot, tahini, seeds and spices they were the best burgers we had ever had and were served with a pile of fries and fresh salad. We also had lovely quiche and halloumi kebabs. The meals were about £8 .

We saw others eating battered fish, crap salad, sour dough sandwiches and normal burgers and all the food looked good. I am a bit stunned by some recent comments on Trip Advisor because our experience was really great. This is a beach cafe and as such was serving food far above standard.

“Take Away - JOKE!”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

We had a lovely couple of hours on the beach, knowing the Car Park shuts at 7pm, we thought we would go up to the 'Take Away' window of the Venus Cafe at 6pm and have some fish and chips on the outside seating area before we left. We made our selection and got into the quite long que. When we did eventually get to the front, we were told the only food that was now available was what you can see behind - a selection of soggy looking Pasties and Sandwiches. It doesn't say anywhere that food finishes @ .... and really spoiled the afternoon. What sort of a beach cafe has no hot food to serve at 6pm on a hot Saturday afternoon. No apology given - just a shrug!

“More than just a beach café”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

We've just returned from a short stay at a campsite just a short walk up the road from Blackpool Sands, and we ate at the venus Café twice – for breakfast and dinner, sitting outside on both occasions. Dinner (well, tea really, as it was before six) was really good. Grilled scallops, grilled langoustines, pollock, grilled Cornish sardines were all excellent. Two added bonuses: 1) watching the shadows lengthen across the beach at the end of a sunny day and 2) the honour of being served our mains by the chefs! I'm not sure why, but it was a nice touch.

Breakfast was good too. Just bacon and sausage baps, but you can make them ordinary or you can make them special. These were special.

There weren't many diners on either occasion we were there, so the staff weren't pushed, but service was really good, and very friendly. Last time we ate here was 20 years ago, when the café was just a shack. Don't think we'll be leaving that long again.
