We stayed at Palm Grove for 7 nights in September. This was our first visit to Rarotonga. We found the villa (beachfront) to be very adequate with lovely views. The staff were all very friendly, and the location is perfect as it's a bit further from town so not too many people about but still close enough to everything.

A couple of general comments - the restaurant food was very nice and the portions large. Pricing was comparable to other restaurants around. The Sunday night BBQ was tasty.

With the villas, ours was cleaned daily though it was really just a sweep of the floor. The cleaning staff weren't very good about taking out the rubbish or replacing toiletry amenities (for example, an empty tissue box sat by the sink for several days and was never replaced). Fresh milk that was in our fridge on arrival was chunky and moldy after a few days and wasn't replaced at all. So, this was a pretty basic service but we weren't expecting 5 stars.

The office staff were helpful to a point but we found better recommendations from locals at the dive centre, bars, and other venues.

The beach was perfect (so long as it wasn't windy!) and a lovely swimming spot compared to others on the island.

One thing we did find with reviews of the Cook Islands was that age matters! Tourists from honeymooners to families to retirees visit the Cooks and some of the things we read before our trip about the resort or other activities were age-biased.

We would definitely stay here again - it's an easy going resort that comfortably sits mid-range it terms of what's available on the island.

Just got back last night and have to say that this was a very trouble-free place to stay for 12 days. The staff is friendly, pleasant and takes the time to learn about you and make sure you are taken care of. The beach is right there, and they have kayaks, snorkel gear, beach lounges, towels and even frisbees and badminton. Bus stop either direction right in front, and they can arrange a rental car, scooter, bicycle or a tour. Accommodations are simple, but fit the environment. Wifi is spotty, but typical of the islands. The television programming is classic as it switches from Austrailian, New Zealand, Cooks TV, and then back to whatever is on.

Breakfast was simple and laid back. The restaurant is very good with a very diverse menu with fresh and local spices and plating. Pricing is reasonable by island standards. Friday night happy hour (and a a half) is FREE for guests, beer, wine and soft drinks. Half price "bartender's choice" cocktails were awesome and very creative. Live music draws many neighboring guests and locals and the atmosphere is fun and lively. Sunday night BBQ is fun and let's you try some traditional island recipes in a buffet style.

Hats off to Joanne, Bitsy, and all the staff for making are stay enjoyable and stress free. And kudos to the Cook Islands for avoiding (whether intentional or accidental)the lure of big, global chains and their money, that would most definitely change the feel of the whole area.

Room tip: Garden rooms are more private, while the beach front bungalows are more rustic. Hard to go wrong with any of them

This was our first time to the Cooks spending a great 10 days at the beach villa with friends and extended group of 13. Found the villa an ideal base, with its BBQ,patio (covered to keep out of sun and rain). We all enjoyed ourselves swimming, snorkeling most days and clicking into Cook Islands time was very easy. Breakfasts were what was expected..laid back and no rush from the friendly staff..even the toasters are on Cook Islands time. As we have read, happy hour and a half on Friday was well worth the effort to get there early..the staff more than friendly and we followed this up with dinner at the restraurant . I can recommend the entree Raro Shrimp. If you are looking for a relaxing, gorgeous beach/water/snorkeling spot go no further, the Palm Grove is the resort to stay at , very handy to the local store and the buses both clockwise and anti clockwise stop right in front of Palm Grove. Just on little problem in staying at the villa was when it rained the dripping from the upstairs roof above our bedroom below woke us up..perhaps some spouting on the north side upstairs would overcome this.
There was plenty of room at the beach which was just less than a stones throw away. Watch out for the chickens and the dogs. A wonderful 10 days had by all. Will be back to watch the beautiful sunsets and swim the warm waters of the lagoon to see the amazing array of fish. Thankyou to management.

Room tip: Can recommend the Beach Villa with its 3 bedrooms which is right on the beach. No noise from the roosters in morning unless you have the windows open.
