“Very grand!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

We stayed for just one night at the Vidago Palace as part of a 10 day holiday in northern Portugal. The hotel has been tastefully restored and certainly has the "wow factor". We were a little worried at first that it might be too formal but the staff were all very welcoming, particularly the receptionist, and were pleased to show us the facilities. The dining room, breakfast room and staircase were all beautiful, as were the bedrooms (ours was small but perfectly formed!) and grounds. As a contrast to the period charm of the hotel, the modern pool and spa area was stunning. I was particularly keen on the large pool-side beanbags! We decided to eat dinner in the hotel, which was expensive but delicious. It was a shame there were so few other diners. Breakfast was also very good. Our only small complaint was that our room was too warm at night despite the air conditioning, but the weather was hot and humid. I would recommend this hotel.

We arrived Vidago Palace with high expectations, and they were all met! The historic buildings are beautifully restored, the new extension (SPA with the best jacuzzi I have ever seen) fits in well, and the service is attentive without being "too pushy." Dining room and breakfast hall are both fantastic, food is very good (though dinner is a bit expensive and the wine list could easily be expanded). Without any doubt, a truly 5-star experience, highly recommended.

Room Tip: The junior suites are good value for money. Bigger space is always nice, especially if travelling wi...

This is a beautiful hotel. The staff were charming and helpful. The grounds were well kept and extensive including a golf course. The outdoor pool area was spectacular. The food was great. The breakfast and the room it was served in was superb. If there is a hotel that truly deserves its 5* badge this is it.

Very Good service. Very Good restaurant. Not very Good wine list for a restaurant/hotel like this. Very Good sommelier. Very cold spa. Lacks soul...People from the spa are very helpfull and profissional. Noise on the interior pool impossible to bear! Looks like very loud drums! Garden view from spa lacks atention and care. Very ugly!!!
In general: this paradise need a bit of care to details!!! Great staff, makes our stay perfect.

This wonderful Hotel was completely renovated in 2010. It's beautiful main building is surrounded by gardens, a lake, and even a 75 year old golf course.
Inside, the decoration remais faithful to the history of the hotel: classic furniture and, in the main lobby, an huge beautiful stairway that reminds the one from the 'Titanic'.
The environment is very quiet, perfect for relaxing. The people are very friendly and the service is top quality,
With acess from the floor rooms there is an wonderful Spa with indoor swimming pool and another outdoor pool with hot water.
The standard rooms are quite small as this is an aincient building; the windows are also small and with dificult acess because the walls are so large. Had some trouble with the air condicionig in our room as it seems not to be working very well. The restaurant has good quality food but it seems too expensive; it's worth the time to look for other nice typical local restaurants and discover the local cuisine.
Great hotel for a few days getaway, quiet and rest are guaranteed.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are quite small, the AC didn´t work very well.

This beautiful palace has been magnificiently restaured, keeping all the originally charm. The decor is sumptuous, refined and with extreme good taste. The large dining room, the breakfast room and the bathrooms are really remarkable. Also the contemporany Spa, designed by Siza Vieira, is very well integrated with the classical building.
The palace grounds, with the golf course and the golf House, are beautiful to walk around.
I simply loved the palace feeling and would love to return on some summer days in order to enjoy the outside pool. This hotel is enchanting both for adults or children.
