“Ok for the money”
Reviewed June 22, 2009

Stayed here for a family wedding,

Hotel is in a great little spot for the church and other ameneties, however it needs a good clean and a few things sorting out.

Generally the service was poor, everything was an effort and the cleanup after breakfast took ages. I was sat from 10am - 12.30 in the bar and there were still dirty plates and cups left everywhere.

The room was a geneous size and we were offered a double after ony being told that a twin was available on reservation. we were allowed into the room early too which was good. It just needed a good clean and a re fit. It looked tired and old. There were stains on the seats and the carpets, the towel rail fell off, the shower on/off dial had bits missing, there were screws hanging out of the walls?? the bathroom door was broken etc etc. just little things really, but for £100 in richmond, you cant complain!

The breakfast was great and the location for travelling into central London was good as well

Overall i'd give it a 6/10 but there's room for improvement!

Stayed here for convenient access to The National Archives (less than a 10-minute walk away) and was very impressed with the hotel. I had wondered if, being a pub, it would be very noisy but it was one of the quietest hotels I've ever stayed in. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming, especially the waitress at breakfast who was one of the best I've encountered - she was friendly, smiley and assiduous without being over the top. Breakfast was lovely with a good range of options and the Traditional English breakfast was extremely filling. The room was spacious and very clean, with good facilities including Freeview TV, free wi-fi (which worked fine although there were a couple of occasions when I couldn't connect immediately as "too many concurrent users" were connected). Having an ironing board and iron (as well as a trouser press) in the room was handy. There were a few slight scuffs to some of the walls in the room and a broken lampshade on one of the bedside lamps but these were only minor details and in no way detracted from a very pleasant and relaxing stay.

We were disappointed with this place. The corridors were all badly marked and worn, the mattress was of very low quality, there were cobwebs in the room. Wireless internet didn't work (and we were not warned about this when we booked). Breakfast was OK, but overall it seemed very poor value for money.

I stayed here two nights with a group rate attending BSI meetings. It was comfortable and a good value. It is out of the way; but I found a relatively easy and very inexpensive route using London Transport.

Take the Piccadilly Line to the South Ealing Station (I was arriving from LHR). Cross South Ealing Road to the #65 bus stop and take the Southbound bus to the Mortlake Road stop. Turn left, cross Mortlake, walk left and straight ahead to the hotel on the right., about 100 meters in all.

Some public areas of the hotel are a wee bit shabby and in need of a freshen up but our room was pleasant and spacious, with a smart bathroom and excellent shower. Staff friendly. Evening meal not fantastic - my fish was nice but my husband's steak pie clearly came out of a packet or a tin, though to be fair they had made no claims that it was home-made. Breakfast on the other hand was very good - hot, fresh and plenty of it. Very good value for the location, perfect spot for visiting Kew Gardens. It is however right under the Heathrow flightpath, but I guess that will be true of most places in the area.

Visited relatives in the area and stayed two nights at the Coach & Horses on Kew Green. The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We invited our relatives to join us for dinner in their restuarant one night and the food and service we received were excellent. I can also recommend the breakfast, - delicious and what a choice.
Our room was spacious, light and spotlessly clean.
I would fully recommend you pay a visit to this Hotel when visiting Richmond, Kew or central London.
