My wife and I attended a family reunion at Bellaria in October, 2005. A most wonderful meal was served to all 25 of us. Of course, I am biased because my greatgrandfather and grandfather built Bellaria in 1903 and then the family operated it continuously until 1980 when it was sold to non-family member owners (who, by the way, have maintained the quality and ambiance of the original osteria and locanda quite well).
I remember the incredible taste of the antipasti with its salumi and the local formaggio, the delight of the home made anolini in butter and cheese sauce, the flavor of the arosto maiale with contorni, the excellent local wine and then the incredible dolce piacentini. With luck I'll be enjoying that experience again later this year.
Bellaria has a very interesting history. For many years it housed a bicycle and motorcycle repair shop operated by my great uncle. It served as the only mail stop between Rivergaro and Bobbio and Genova and during WWII it was the locale of much partisan resistance. I am submitting three photos of Bellaria for reader review. One is of the orignal building and the second a current photo.
I strongly recommend a stop at Bellaria for a delightful pranzo anytime you are in the Val Trebbia area.
