“Family Holiday to Nusa Dua”

My sister and I and our husbands, travelled to Nusa Dua Bali in early March, we stayed at the Grand Mirage resort in an Ocean View room. We found the rooms very good, and the views from our balcony over the sea were lovely. I had researched the reviews of the resort before travelling and found that there were a few negative ones, so were slightly worried. However on arrival found the service exceptional, the beds very comfortable, and very big. The buffet breakfast was exceptional, and diverse, and suited all nationalities. Staff were allways courteous and smiling, and allways wanting to refill your cup with coffee or tea. Our rooms were cleaned every day, and someone came in late afternoon and turned down our bed. Our age group is 57-60, My sister and I have a cousin in Sanur who we hadn't seen for 25 yrs, and we had her phone number with us, we had tried to phone her from our room a few times with no luck, so we went down to reception and one of the friendly staff offered to phone her for us, which she did, for no charge. We had a lovely stay at the Grand Mirage, and would recommend it to anyone.

We quite enjoyed our four night stay but must say that we didn't want to stay any longer.
The all inclusive package was our best option and I must admit it felt good knowing that everything was already paid for and we felt it was just reasonable value for money. If you have kids, this would be a real gem.
Some negatives however...the rooms are very average with cheap creaking flooring and air conditioning that struggled to get anywhere near 23 degrees. The steel supporting the skylight roof over the main dining area is a complete rust bucket and needs replacing. We thought the food was awful the two times we ate at the Jukung grill and once at La Cascata. The best meals were at Chopsticks which is next door and inclusive. Also the a la carte ordered in the Grand Cafe was quite good.
The Grand Mirage is far from grand and is far removed from the 5 star rating that it probably earned 30 years ago. There is simply nothing 5 star about it even in Bali standards. If you're wanting a little luxury and class, this is not for you but if you just want a good break with the kids, it could be an option.

Dear Mr. Bofman,

I am sorry that your stay was less than satisfactory. I have noted your concerns carefully and shared it among the respective department heads.

Our Engineering team has done immediate actions in regards to the cracking floor and the air conditioning. To replace the steel supporting skylight needs a well-planned project which would not be carried on in the near future. We are working on it with our interior designers and architect.

Our Australian Executive Chef, who has more than 30 year experience in culinary field, monitors the food continuously. I feel sorry if it did not meet your expectation.
Thank you for your constructive feedback. Please give us one more try by staying again in our resort and experiencing our true standards.

This is a very delayed review as stayed here September 2012!
Very friendly check in staff, We booked a sea view room and although we could see the sea, we were on the far left corner and could only see a tiny amount of sea due to trees, Based on the price for the place this didnt really bother us as only stayed for 3 nights. Rooms are very clean and well presented. Breakfast is lovely, a broad range of food. Would definitely stay at this hotel again. There is not much in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, We took a taxi to the main shopping/food area.

We just got back from a one week stay at the Grand Mirage. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The food was fantastic (all inclusive is definitely the way to go), the staff were so helpful and friendly (and absolutely fantastic with our 10 month old daughter!) room was great, beach lovely - we had such a great, relaxing holiday. We will be back!

Just had nearly 3 weeks at Grand Mirage (Feb/Mar '14) and can only summarise by saying that everything at this resort was either exceptional or well above average and certainly in the 5* category in a family friendly way.
About 30 mins or so from the airport (the long way) - fixed price airport taxi only about £7.50. The return in Hotel vehicle (complimentary in AI package) about 20 mins via the new toll road system (fantastic) - the toll is about 50p!! Some may find the location at Benoa a little quiet compared to the more lively areas of Kuta or Sanur but there are plenty of local restaurants and good entertainment in the hotel every night. The taxi fares (Blue taxis, very plentiful and on the meter) are cheaper than many UK bus services so it's very easy to get out and about without overloading the budget. There is also a regular complimentary shuttle service to the Bali Collection at Nusa Dua for some good shopping and eating if required. In fact, the choice and variety of food in the Hotel's 4 restaurants is wide and variable and we opted for the AI package. This also meant that a good selection of beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) were included as well as being able to choose food from the a la carte menus if desired; so no shocks on the bill at the end of the stay! Additionally, stays of more than 12 days attract some further benefits with free or reduced price spa treatments and use of the various motorised water sports (non-motorised water sports are complimentary).
The long, white sand, hotel beach is excellent for swimming and as with the well kept gardens and pool areas (including swim-up bar), there are plenty of loungers (including doubles/family sized) and good shaded areas. Beverages and snacks are just a smile away and brought to you by the lovely, friendly waiters who patrol the areas.
Indeed, one of the most impressive aspects of Grand Mirage are the wonderful staff. One is met at check-in by one of a team of Guest Managers (and a glass of "anything"), who gives a comprehensive run down of all the facilities, room etc. We had opted for an ocean view room which was of a good size, kept very clean and the towels etc. replenished on a twice daily basis. The team are then always available to assist with any daily needs, problems, local advice etc. (we had a medical problem that necessitated 6 days of hospitalisation. The friendly, caring support, even included flowers being brought to the hospital by the Guest Manager and Hotel Nurse; truly fantastic service). Without exception though, the staff in all departments were very friendly and helpful whilst also professional, and went out of their way to ensure that any obscure and extra requests were dealt with to our satisfaction. Our only complaint of any sort was that the hanging/wardrobe space available in the rooms was somewhat limited but this too was largely overcome by the staff obtaining a mobile stand on which a number of items could be hung.
So, would we return to Grand Mirage? It's a very long journey from the UK but given the opportunity, a very definite yes.

Room Tip: We had an ocean view room on the 4th (top) floor which provided excellent views. All have a balcony...

My wife and my two young boys loved this resort very much. We just came back from Bali on 18-Mar. We had an all inclusive package that made our vacation in Bali even more fabulous. We loved the food served in every restaurant in this resort. My younger son said he had his best milk shake he ever had here. He loved the Fish-n-Chips from the restaurant near the beach. The bar at the swimming pool is cool- with a wide selection of drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) menu to choose from. The beach line is long (as what we noticed from the photos on the web) and the sand is clean. The hotel, gardens, swimming pool, our guest room and nearly every where we went within this resort are very well maintained and clean. Off course, the friendly hotel staffs make the entire resort a perfect place for somebody like us who wanted a care free and relaxing vacation.

Rating: Strongly recommend (with the all-in package)

We stayed in a ocean vie suits, it's huge almost too big :). The room was very nice but it did have a distint smell, almost like it need the window opened so it could have some air circulating.

I wanted to rest, swim, drink and eat and not do a lot of anything else. This hotel is perfect for these things. We liked the choice of restaurants and the shows were great. It's was everything we hoped for!

We found a great day spa (recommended on trip adviser) called Home Spa, it's 50 meters down the road and very very nice (clean, professional, reasonable price). After our first visit we recieved 20% off the cost. I recommend the Happy Hour massage and the massage with two therapists (it's absolute heaven!).

I loved the all inclusive and it was great only having one price.

Room Tip: Any room would be fine as the general areas are very nice - like the pool, beach.
