My partner and I stayed at the Aston Bali as a last minute getaway. We were looking for a holiday where we could chill out by the pool and relax with a drink in nice surroundings and that is exactly what we got.
We arrived quite late at night, so we couldn't see much of the surrounding area, however we were very impressed with the lovely entrance and decor in the lobby.
Since we got a great deal on a last minute booking, we weren't expecting too much, however it more than exceeded our expectations. Our room was lovely and big, with nice cool floor boards (although a bit buckled in spots), attractive decor and a massive bathroom with a huge bath. Our bed was two king singles pushed together which was great. The 'garden' view we had was certainly less than spectacular (the maintenance area out the back and a nearby roof), but we didn't care as we weren't going to sit on our balcony when we had a pool to lounge by. And I'd rather a big bed than a great view from the room.
The room was very clean and well appointed with towels, complimentary drinking water, toiletries and a mini bar. The airconditioner worked very well and the room was very clean. We had a huge plasma too if we wanted to relax and watch tv before bed.
As far as the quality of the rooms go, we were more than happy. We wouldn't call it perfect or the best we've been in, but then again, it wasn't a brand new hotel, it wasn't that expensive and we weren't expecting 5 star either.
As for the rest of the resort - it was lovely. Very clean (seemed to always have someone cleaning the floors and dusting the banisters etc), had very friendly and helpful staff and absolutely beautiful grounds.
The pool was fantastic with plenty of areas in the pool for different types of people to hang out eg kids, adults, couples etc with massage jets, pool volleyball & basketball, waterfall, swim up bar etc.
It was always easy to get a good spot by the pool or beach and we regularly had staff coming around to take our orders.
Just a word of warning - the cocktails can be very strong even for seasoned drinkers! Up to you whether you think that is a good or bad thing...
The beach wasn't fantastic, but coming from a part of Australia which has beautiful beaches, I certainly wasn't going there for the beaches. With that said though, I have seen much worse beaches in Bali (even at some of the resorts nearby) - ours was clean (quite swimmable) and only had the occasional hawker set up with little huts. Although it is not in the "gated" area of Nusa Dua which from what I understand strictly controls access to a resort's private beaches, the hawkers seem to be on their best behaviour and don't hassle you (and there is security keeping an eye on them). But I must admit I was more interested in laying by the pool.
The meal options for the hotel were fantastic. The buffet breakfast had some of the best omlettes I've ever had and there was a wide range of different types of foods. Not over the top, but enough to satify most people.
During the day you could go to the a la carte restaurant which is near the pool or order from a poolside menu (both from the same kitchen) from which you could always find something tasty. I highly recommend the balinese pizza for a yummy lunch.
At night you could also dine at the the al a carte restaurant or go to the buffet restaurant which had a different theme every night. We had some truly delicious meals there. To top it off, they have a fantastic local trio that serenade you at your table. They made every night we ate there very entertaining and they played and sang some beautiful music (you get to pick the songs).
And the other option was of course room service, which was much the same as the al a carte menu and arrived very promptly.
As for bars, there was always somewhere you could order a drink - the By the C Bar (very nice beachside bar and lounging area), the piano lounge, the restaurants, your deck chair, the pool bar etc
I must admit however, after the first day, we decided to upgrade to an all inclusive package and it was truly worth it. It included all you can eat from any of the restaurants (which actually weren't really cheap but typical resort prices) and room service, free mini bar stock up, free beer, spirits and cocktails (although not top shelf but included spirits such as Canadian Club and Jim Beam rather than their Bali Moon brand which they use for cocktails), free daily spa treatment (bliss!) or watersport and free laundry service (which was a great bonus). We very quickly drank, ate, and massaged our money's worth!
We stayed for 7 nights and had a fantastic time. We ventured out a few times on a tour somewhere or to go shopping in Kuta, but next time i'd probably be happy to chill out at the resort most of the time. The resort isn't in a particularly nice area, with the the typical filthy crammed streets, but it's 1000 times better than Kuta (just the smell of Kuta makes me feel sick). Yes, there are nicer areas in Bali, and there are flasher resorts, but whether you enjoy staying there depends upon what you are after and what you expect from Bali. It's not a shopping area, and it's not perfectly manicured like Nusa Dua (a bit further South), or tropical wilderness like in the north of the island. But it's a convenient location, easy to get a taxi to and from, great value and you can escape back to the clean serenity of the resort, gaze out to the ocean and relax in style after a day out and about.
We're definitley going again next year!

I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PROPERTY
I have been to Bali 14 times so I think I know what to expect when staying on the gorgeous Island.
This property is shocking. I will just touch on it briefly. we stayed in an ocean front suite. I don't know why it was called a suite, nothing resembled it being a suite, maybe because it had a seperate bedroom and it was a little larger? The furnishing was very basic, & not comfortable, the curtains do not have sunblock in them therefore it is very hard to sleep in with the light shining through in the morning. The bed is rock hard, no sofa to sit on, if you like a hot shower , don't expect it and bring along your own shampoo & conditioner. The service is non existent - we repeatedly phoned for an extra towel (we were 1 towel short) and after 48 hours we got a towel. The staff are not helpful what so ever, infact they are bordering on rude. The swimming pool is murky and if you want a drink or food around the pool - get up and get it yourself as trying to get the wait staff to come to youn is near impossibe. Speaking of drinks, most of the alchol is non-genuine if you like cocktails you can only get a brand called Bali Moon and it tastes disgusting! The breakfast is a huge let down, there is not much variety. I could keep going on and on but I have touched on a few issues that were of concern to us. My advice is please look around before booking this property. PS: it says on their website that there is a kids club - there is NO kids club!

We decided for the last two nights of our bali holiday we would spalsh out and stay 5 star.

We arrived at the aston and were blown away by the size of lobby deffinitly a llittle out of a league and much, much nicer then our other accomodation choices.

We stayed in a delux room and it was beautiful although we were given twin beds even though we requested a double on wotif. They sent someone up to push the beds together and offered to move us the following day although we enjoyed our supersized bed so much that we stayed in our room.

T.V. was huge with lots of channels and a lovely bathroom, was very nice to relax in the big bath.

Buffet breakfast was awsome everything one could want and more.

Pool area was wonderful. The pool was massive it had a pool bar, little grotto with a couple of waterfalls and a lots of lounge chairs. Also had wonderful pool service food or drink could be bought out to you. Although prices were very expensive much cheaper to eat and drink anywhere on the street.

If you are to stay at the aston remember to activate the privacy button on the power board as it deactivates the doorbell we were woken up to insistent doorbell ringing to service our room and even after telling staff to please come back later they returned 3 more times in 15 minutes until i let them in and they cleaned around me. Would have been nice of staff to inform us about the deactivation button for the door bell on arrival.

We thought this place was pretty amazing pretty lousy for shopping although kuta is a 40 min car trip away.

I stayed at the Aston for 1 week. We booked the Onyx all inclusive package for my honeymoon before traveling around the island. Overall the hotel was great for the money spent. We had a deluxe ocean view room and it was stunning. The room was huge with a nice bathroom, a/c, and flat screen TV. For the most part very clean. We loved the pool and the grounds were well manicured and clean. The beach was mediocre and the ocean just okay (rocks, coral and seaweed, it wasn't the crystal clear blue sea I was expecting). Hawkers not so bad, you just have to ignore them and not give them any attention. A lot of water sports so you need to be careful when swimming in the ocean. If there was anything I would suggest improvement on it would be the food. The nightly buffets were pretty much the same thing with slight variations. Thankfully they had one restaurant that was a la carte. The staff were fantastic. I would stay there again.

First, I must appologize for my bad English because it's not my native language. The hotel is absolutely beautifull, the service is also stunning, everything one could ever wish for. The rooms are quite big and clean. Since we were honeymooners, there was a welcome cake and a nice arrangement on the bed when we came. However, when we left some food in our room and later got back, there were ants on the food. Also we found cockroach in the bathroom. The hotel staff are just sooo friendly and willing to help. They will do anything just to keep you satisfied. Your satisfaction is of utmost importance for them. If you book in this hotel, be sure to get room on 4th floor since it has the best view.
There is a big and clean pool, opening times 8 a.m.-8 p.m. where we spent a lot of time. Drinking delicious cocktails in the pool was very enjoyable. A lot of nice restaurants near the hotel with very affordable prices. Also if you need ATM there are two of them several hundred meters to the north. Near the hotel you will find Mini market with big choice of souvenirs and presents very cheaply. If you need Internet, one can use wifi connection from hotel rooms for 60.000 rupiah for 2 hours. Across the street from hotel there is Internet cafee with much cheaper Internet.
If you have any questions about this hotel feel free to ask.

Arrived after a two night stay in HK. Aston was great. everything you could want from a holiday with family. The rooms were spacious and cleaned everyday. The hotel staff were very friendly any problems were dealt with quickly. We all had massages and spent most of the time eating drinking and sunning ourselve. All inclusive, we got our monies worth within a couple of days. For what we payed, it was real value for money.

This resort is amazing!! We arived at the Aston after a 16 hour flight and were imediatly impressed with the hotel as well as the staffs service and hospitality. This hotel is absolutely beautiful, the pool area was amazing and the grounds are very well kept. The beach area was much nicer than the other hotel we have stayed in in Bali, which was in the Tuban area. And you did'nt have to put up with being constantly harrased by hawkers which made for a relaxing stay. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and now wish we had stayed their for the whole 8. The Restrants were very nice and so was the Biwana spa. Would definantly stay here again. Would reccomend to ANYONE. LOVED IT!
