My first visit to Bali - and i was just there for a rest and this place provides a real rest. My room on the first floor overlooked the garden and pool - the garden area is really pretty with pools with fish, flowers, trees, grass - not huge but beautifully designed. the pool is big enough to swim. i found the freeform shape a bit odd. Loungers are shaded by trees and there were always some in the shade. pool bar was fun.

the beach is lovely - it was never crowded when we were there, and the sand is white and the sea was blue, and great for swimming. Plenty of loungers and a constant supply of cold drinks from the poolbar a few steps away.

I've never stayed allinclusive before and thought it might mean noisy mealtimes and always buffet food, but not here. yes there are buffets but we also ate in the hotel's more formal restaurant - great food. The buffet food was always fresh and mealtimes were not crowded.

The hotel has a great bar and lobby area with really comfy sofas and indeed beds for lounging on - partly open air, Lovely peaceful place to sit, chat, have a drink. generally a quietish hotel - suited me but might not suit someone wanting something livelier.

My room was large and airy with a balcony - get one that overlooks the pool/garden if you can, Bathroom was good - shower but no bath. Seems to be a new fashion in hotels not to have baths - doesn't matter to me. But why? Bed very comfortable. Day bed nice touch - cover was a bit old.

A few days of having nothing to do except decide whether to sit by the pool or the sea and which place to eat in and I was so relaxed I was horizontal.

This was a really good hotel once I had got over the first day. The web-site advertised it as a all-inclusive resort and when I booked I thought that was what I was getting, but in fact I had only booked bed and breakfast. It was not a problem once it was explained to me and I upgraded to the silver package, but when you are trying to work within a budget, it was a bit upsetting. Then after unpacking I asked for my room to be changed as it overlooked the street and there it a lot of motorbikes up and down the road. After that it was really good and ther staff could not do enough for you. It is true there is not much to do in the area. But the weather was so good I could just sunbathe. We organised some trips with the hotel and for a small hotel, some of the entertainment was really very good.

A few words of warning if it is your first time to Bali. The entry visa has gone up to 25$ and there was a departure tax of 20$. Also on landing be prepared to be extremely hassled by the taxis drivers.

Dear Mr/Mrs Suemusgrave

Thank you for taking your time to write this lines about Melia Benoa hotel.

I would like to apologize about the confusion with the all-inclusive package, this hotel is an all-inclusive resort but we also have a package just for bed and breakfast, just for people who do not want to spend the whole day in the hotel. In the web site you can see that we have a price for bed and breakfast and different prices for each level of the all-inclusive package.

Also we regret about your problem with the room, this part of the hotel is close to the street and sometimes there is some noise. However we are glad that these little problems in your first day did not change your opinion about the hotel, because all the staff worked hard to give you the best service.

It is a pleasure for us that you have enjoyed your vacation in our hotel and we look forward to see you very soon.

Best Regards

a lovely stay! our room had a view of the garden, and a lovely balcony to sit out on.
entertainment in the garden was a little loud and lasted well into the night, but we slept through it. others might have problems.

breakfast was lovely, they even let me take a plate up to eat. you cant really go anywhere locally, taxis are plentiful. if you do watersports, grab some leaflets from the airport and book it direct, you get free drinks and better offers! paid £20 for paragliding, banana boat and the flying fish. tours to turtle island and other places were booked direct - always worked out cheaper!

Travelling with my sister (both seasoned travellers in our 60s) we emailed the hotel well in advance to confirm that we would be given the silver package in an upper floor room with twin beds. We were shown 3 inappropriate rooms before we got what we had booked. That said, the room was spacious and spotless, and some modernisation to room and bathroom had been done.Yes, it is an older hotel but it had character and a cosy feel about it.
We have been to several "all-inclusive" resorts before and found the variety of the food to be more 3-4* than the 4-5* we expected. The dress code that was posted at the restaurant was supposed to be smart/casual at dinner. Imagine our amazement when 6 people arrived in for dinner one night in bathing trunks and bare feet and no-one stopped them! The food in the "fine dining" restaurant was good but the restaurant seemed dark and gloomy and the A/C was chilly. As we prefer to dine "al-fresco" we generally used the main restaurant.
When the weather permitted there were buffets ( barbecue and seafood) on the lawns or on the beach twice a week. The food here was more varied but we discovered it was advisable to go to these meals earlier than later as sometimes some of the dishes did not seem to get repenished.
The staff were very helpful and friendly.
We unfortunately hit the end of the rainy season and had a few unpleasant days but the Spa was well worth visiting on these days.
It was Nyepi (day of silence) while we were there and while most people respected that we were not allowed out of the hotel or onto the beach, some people were quite abusive to the security guards about this -the attitude being that "we paid to stay in this hotel and we will do as we like" and some others could not have been much noisier!
The beach was lovely to walk along- not the soft sand of the other side of the island, but very pleasant and clean. As has been said in other reviews, beach shoes are definately advisable when going into the sea,as we saw several people with grazed knees and legs and cut feet. The gardens are beautifully tended and it was lovely to sit at mealtimes and watch a heron trying to catch a fish in the pond or watch the guests feeding the huge carp.
We would definately recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a quiter resort with more character than others we saw around the island. There is evening entertainment which is quite "low key" and generally of a good quality.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 8153. Rooms further along the corridor had better views of the pol and garden. It was fairly close to reception, but those closer to reception looked over the roof of the main restaurant. Some on the ground floor looked straight into the restaurant and frequently got "food smells"

Dear Mr/Mrs Milliemax

Thank you for share with everybody your recent experience in Melia Benoa hotel, it was a pleasure for us to welcome you and to give you our best service.

First of all, our most sincere apologizes about the problem with the room, we have several types of room and we are sorry for did not give to you the correct one since the first moment.
We regret that we did not reached your expectation in terms of food, we think that we have much variety, since we have three restaurant with different type of food each one, and everything is high quality. About the dress code, we understand you but in this types of hotel is difficult since the restaurant are very close to the beach and the pool, but we are trying to solve that problem.
In that time the weather could be very bad, but is a good opportunity, like you did, to go to the SPA to a relaxing massage, or to participate in our activities inside the hotel.

Finally, I want to thank for you your nice words about the staff and we valuate your comments because reviews such as yours are great assistance to us in order to identify problems that may exist throughout our hotel and, subsequently, taking whatever corrective measures deemed necessary.

We hope and trust that we will welcome you again in our hotel and have the opportunity of serving you again.

Best regards from Bali

We have been to Melia Benoa 3 times and have again booked for this year, each time we have been we have found the staff to be very helpful and make you feel at home and welcome you back with open arms.. Last year we spent christmas and new year there and found it to be just fantastic, it is the only resort that my husband unwinds and doesn't want to leave. Location is great markets close by. Excellent massage places close by. If you are into the all night partying this is not the ideal spot, go to kuta... but if you want 5 star accomodation, 5 star food, 5 star staff where truely nothing is too much of a problem and you dont want keep signing your name to a docket every time you get a drink the all inclusive deal is the way to go .

Room Tip: all inclusive gold to executive suite, is a must (bigger than my house)
