“Great service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2013

We booked a private charter to do some snorkelling around the Lambongan island area. From the pick up at our hotel to the owner Rhonda at their beach side facility, the service was warm and welcoming. The quality of snorkelling is of a good standard but not the same as ningaloo reef back home. Our trip was cut a little short of the 4-5pm return time, but we still enjoyed the day.

Dear perthaustins,

Thank you so very much for taking the time to post such a kind Trip Advisor review for us. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your day with us and that you were delighted with our services.

As all of our tours are private charter you may take your time and enjoy a full day out, if you need to get back a bit earlier that is fine too.

We are happy that you found the snorkeling of a good standard, Nusa Penida and Amed are two of the sites that in our humble opinion have some of the best snorkeling around Bali. We’ve never been snorkeling in Ningaloo Reef but we are sorry that you were slightly disappointed in Nusa Penida and didn’t find it quite as good as back home.

As a company we do a lot of work in the Nusa Dua area with coral reef restoration, including replanting coral and also placing marker buoys for the boats to moor to whilst our guests (and others) are snorkeling and diving. We also have a number of programs in place in order to educate the local community to take better care of the reef and the environment in the surrounding area.

Thank you again for your kind review and we hope that the next time you visit Bali that you will come see us again!

With warm regards and heartfelt thanks,
Nyoman, Rhonda and the Bali Jet Set Team

“Rhonda!! Your staff and you awesome!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2013 via mobile

Awesome experience in scuba diving. The instructor was very calm and understanding. Made us very comfortable. The dive kit was really good. Photographs underwater came really good. Best jet skiing experience as instructor lets you throttle to your capacity. In the end I would recommend this to everyone who wants to take a deep dive.

Dear Shagunkhera,

Thank you so very much for taking the time to post such a wonderful Trip Advisor for us! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your first scuba diving experience with us and that we were able to contribute to making your stay here in Bali extra special.

We are quite different than other dive and water sports centres in that all of our activities, courses and tours are strictly private. This provides for a much more relaxed, safe and exclusive water sports experience as you may go at your own pace. Further, the majority of our equipment is also imported from the USA, Hong Kong and Singapore. Large import duties imposed in Indonesia do make importing the gear expensive, but we believe that it is worth it as we want every guest to have a top quality and most importantly a safe water sports experience with us! Unfortunately, many of the local products which are extremely cheap (such as lifejackets) are considered inferior by international safety standards.

We are also pleased that you enjoyed the photos and video of your dive. We offer camera rental (USD30) and take photos and video of your dive and your activities and put them on a custom CD with your photo on the cover for you to remember your experience and us by! The camera's are high quality 12 megapixel Canon underwater camera's that are imported from Hong Kong.

Again, thank you so much for your kind review from all of us at Bali Jet Set it is truly appreciated, we hope that we will see you back on our beautiful island very soon!

With warm regards and heartfelt thanks,
Nyoman, Rhonda and the Bali Jet Set Team

“Extensive Guide To Booking/Travelling/Activities”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 29, 2013

RESEARCH/BOOKING

I personally googled a lot of companies extensively before making a choice about who I would like to do my water sports with.

What appealed to me about Jet Set was the fact the owner (one of them) was American. Someone who could communicate with me and sell their company in a way that I could understand it the first time (something a lot of Balinese companies may not have the chance to do or don't really look into).

The website was easy to read (for the most part). The brochure is so easy to read, if you can't read/don't like reading, and the prices are made clear from the get go. No "tidak" or haggling later on. This actually made communication very easy through email and I felt Rhonda was quick, attentive and addressed the concerns of myself and my friend - we wanted to make sure we weren't giving our money to some of the Bali quacks who often tout things when you walk along Kuta.

TRAVELLING

GETTING THERE
When I planned my outing with Rhonda (a few weeks ahead of time and not face-to-face) it was clear what was expected and what the plan for the day was. As someone who likes making plans for trips, this was fantastic. I wasn't particularly worried about anything and was quite excited about going to Nusa Dua (or near by) for the day.

My hotel messed up the arrival time of the guide and the driver. I feel incredibly bad the hotel didn't even let us know they were there! The driver who came to collect us had an English speaking guide. The driver was a bit of a maniac in terms of driving. The drive was somewhat long but it wasn't like we were rushed to get to the place and then next tourist comes in. In fact, I didn't really see any other tourists until I went to the diving platform (shipwreck) where 10 other companies had their boats in similar areas.

When we went through some alley ways towards the actual location, it looks like one of the roads (the van might fall in). I was seriously s******g bricks about the van being able to drive through and not falling in the water. It later turned out the tides make this area quite shallow and I'm not going to end up stuck in a van or something horrible. It's a very tight and scary squeeze. The guide thought my reactions were hilarious.

GETTING FROM
Same deal, once you're done you pay up in rupiah unless you paid before hand and off you go. The driver was crazy. I'm used to bad drivers (who do the same thing as the Balinese but will literally run you off the road) were I come from but Bali is a different story, the guide was dodging in and out of lanes really crazy like. You have to see the funny side to this because everyone drives bad in Bali.

ACTIVITIES
I found the price to be fair and listed in the brochure. There were no nasty or unexpected surprises about what was to come. The guides (not the jet ski guys who don't speak English to my knowledge) are fantastic. The divemaster who took us out for snorkelling was nice, great company and was engaging. He taught me a few new things about water sports...

I'd recommend Jet skis and the flying fish looks really cool but I think I'd be a bit too scared to do it. I think the whole of Nusa Dua is going to hear me scream my head off if they sent me up on the flying fish.

I don't really think any of the companies are offering great deals for parasailing, but Jet Set has things like custom packages or deals which make up for it.

Jet Set Marine has a swimming pool (next to a beach???) for its diving classes. I think that would be a cool thing to try next time.

Sunscreen is your best friend. Especially if you're pale/European. I roasted very badly even while wearing sunscreen.

The lockers are clearly visible from the beach. There are copies of the keys which go on water bracelets.

I found difficulty in getting into a wet suit (I was getting really uncomfortable after being burnt). I was getting quite agitated because I could feel it and my companion was also fully roasted (didn't wear much to the beach....) I might BYO wetsuit as I don't really have the Balinese body shape. I don't know if everyone will have that problem but I certainly did. Not sure if larger people are going to have much luck with the wetsuits...BYO!

FACILITY

The bathrooms were sufficient for changing but stinky (not in a good way). My companion said this was probably part of the environment things they do and not wasting water. I saw someone not wash their hands so a bit frightening.

THE STAFF

The staff were friendly and not in the pesky Kuta salesman way.

I do have to have a negative point where I saw someone coming out of the ladies (staff) and not wash her hands.

TIME
I'd spend on a package. Safety means more to me than some cheap, falling apart ride that is going to make me spend travel insurance. I'd recommend this as a half or full day outing rather than a few hours.

Dear littlefiore,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a kind and detailed Trip Advisor review! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your day of water sports activities with us!

We are also delighted that you were happy with the communication that occurred before your visit and that you felt that everything was explained to your satisfaction and that all of your concerns were addressed in advance. At Bali Jet Set we quote one fair price for all of our guests, our focus is on providing a quality day out and as we accept a limited number of bookings each day and all of our tours are strictly private, you may go at your own pace. Our prices are also inclusive of free use of our facilities which includes a private beach, swimming pool, WiFi, billiards area and the bar. In addition, we are quite different than other providers in that all of our activities are strictly private, we do not mix groups. This provides for a much more relaxed, safe and exclusive water sports experience.

We are also very happy that you found our web-site and our brochure (marketing material) very easy to read and understand. You are correct in that our packages are great value for money as they are inclusive of a 20% discount for taking multiple activities per person, and you can also “Pick-a-Package” and make your own which provides for flexibility along with a great price when designing a day out of water sports activities.

We also would like to thank you for your frank feedback regarding the points on which we can improve. We are still a relatively new provider having opened our main facility on the west side of Benoa just over 2.5 years ago and we are constantly incorporating the feedback of our guests into our operational procedures as part of our Continuous Process Improvement Programme (CPIP).

Please allow me to address each one of the points separately:

1.) Wet Suits – It is difficult in Asia to find western sized wetsuits. However, we have just recently made a trip to Hong Kong in November and we now have in our dive centre XL, XXL, XXXL wetsuits. These are high-quality imported wet-suits from Aqualung. The comfort and safety of our guests is our top priority. The dive team highlighted this to us after your visit so a special trip was scheduled to Hong Kong shortly thereafter to purchase the appropriate specially ordered wetsuits.

2.) Bathrooms – We employ three full-time cleaning ladies at our facility who clearly let us down on the day. One of them is assigned full-time to the bathrooms to ensure that they stay clean and fresh. We have historically not used the Calmic perfume sprayers in our toilets as some guests do not like the strong perfume smell that comes out of them, but we have also ordered these and will install them to ensure our toilets stay clean and fresh for all guests in the future. We have also formally warned our full-time cleaner for the toilets, should one more guest complain about the toilets her employment will be terminated immediately and she will be replaced. Whilst we do have a number of environmental programmes in place to save water, electricity, etc we would never scrimp on resources if it impacts cleanliness.

3.) Hygeine – We employ a total of 60 people in our company and each one of them knows that hygiene is an absolute top priority here. Rhonda, one of the owners, is extremely picky about cleanliness and is constantly working with the staff to ensure that the facilities are spotless. We have spoken to all of the staff on an individual basis regarding cleanliness and hand washing, we are not sure which member of staff did not wash her hands but if we do find that another member of staff does the same, they have been warned that their employment will be terminated on the spot. We take the standards of hygiene and cleanliness very very seriously. All of our soap dispensers are also filled with Dettol which is an anti-bacteria hand soap.

4.) Driving – One of the areas where we have struggled with since opening our facility the most is with driving in Bali. You are correct in that by Western standards the driving here is a bit crazy. Couple this with the number of motorbikes on the road and it can make driving extremely challenging. Since we opened our facility just over 2.5 years ago we have never had a driving accident with any of our cars. Historically we have always praised the team for taking such good care of our cars and our guests. We are extremely upset that the driver that was responsible for you on the day made you feel in any way uncomfortable. We have spoken to him personally and shown him your review. It is hard sometimes for the local people to understand that how people drive in Bali is not normal (horns honking, lights flashing, darting in and out of lanes, tail gaiting) and can scare someone who is not used to it. Even Rhonda who comes from the US has gotten quite upset and on occasion gets out of her car and gives the bus and taxi drivers a very good lecture about their crazy driving! Having said all that it is not an excuse for any Bali Jet Set driver to make a guest feel uncomfortable and to ensure the quality of the driving the Rhonda and the Transportation Manager will now QA every driver every week by going along with them to ensure that they are adhering to the operational procedures (which are laid out in writing) and driving standards (which are in-line with Western standards) for drivers at Bali Jet Set. We do operate in a very private area on the west side of Benoa which is great for water sports, but it is a 5 minute drive through a small village. When we built the facility there was not actually a road that came to the property so we built it and paid for it ourselves. The road in one area for about 50 meters is next to the ocean, the government has promised us to put a barrier there but we are still waiting and may in the end having to pay for it ourselves also. In the interim, all guests should rest assured that our drivers are always extremely careful in this area. Also, in our humble opinion whilst the road is a bit narrow, it is not that tight of a squeeze for our cars as the big water trucks and also the large garbage trucks do use the same road.

Again, we thank you for taking the time to post such a fantastic review and we also thank you for your very frank comments regarding how we can improve our facilities and services. These points have already been addressed and we hope that the next time you visit our beautiful island you will contact us and we can show you the improvements that have been made along with trying the new wetsuits for an Introductory Scuba Dive!

With warm regards and heartfelt thanks,
Nyoman, Rhonda and the Bali Jet Set Team

“Highlight of our trip!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2013

Easily the highlight of the trip my two teenage daughters and I had for our week in Bali. Rhonda (owner/operator) kept in continual contact via email with me prior to heading overseas to ensure our day was as perfect as it could be. The transfer from the hotel was on time and nothing was too much trouble. Each of us was supplied options as to the activities we wished to take part in with Rhonda tailoring a package to suit. Being an overprotective parent, I initially held concerns as to the well being of my daughters but these were soon put to rest by the behavior of the staff. All ensured safety for both the girls and myself throughout our activities without making us feel restricted. Such was the experience, the girls have already requested we return to this center on our next trip to Bali.
To Rhonda and all your staff, a very heartfelt THANK YOU for a wonderful experience.

“You could easily spend your whole trip here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 18, 2013

Everyone is super friendly, got to chatting with the owner, its nice to see how dedicated to the area she is. All the staff is really friendly. My friend and I went just to go jet skiing and snorkeling and I ended up staying for the day to do the beginners scuba dive activity. It was one on one which was great, felt really comfortable with the dive instructor. The prices are great, the facilities are so much cleaner ad better kept that many places in Bali and its nice to see employees so happy to be at work, it totally felt like a big family!

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to post such a fantastic Trip Advisor review for us. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your day with us and were delighted with our facilities and our services!

We are also absolutely delighted that you enjoyed your first scuba diving experience and decided to do it with us! We are quite different than other providers in that all of our activities, tours and courses are strictly private. This makes for a much more relaxed, exclusive and safe water sports experience than if you are mixed in with a big group.

We are also pleased that you felt very at home during your visit. Thank you also for recognizing our dedication to the environment and the community in the area. It is our objective as a socially responsible business to be proactively engaged in conservation activities and protection of our environment and local communities. We believe that it is our social responsibility to try and improve the world around us. We do this through role-model behavior, treating our staff fairly, leading local projects as well as abiding by the laws of the country in which we live. We also have a “hire local” policy which supports the local community and staff who wish to improve their skills or expand their knowledge are given the opportunity to do so. We strongly believe that by creating a positive workplace and opportunities for our team that they will be happy to work here and also ensure that our guests are taken great care of during their time with us!

We will specially recognize our cleaning staff who work very hard every day to ensure that our 2,000 square meter facility is always spotless for our guests!
