Kaliakria Resort

Attended a wedding here recently and had a great time. Very little bad to say about the place, I'd have no hesitation in recommending it to people looking for accommodation in this area.

Pros:
- apartments were very spacious, cleaned daily and towels/linen changed also.
- large balcony with plenty of seating to sit outside
- spacious kitchen area if you want to cook or make lunch
- large choice of pools with ample sun loungers & umbrellas
- very good restaurant with stunning views

Cons:
- bit of a walk to the beach - but the hotel runs a shuttle
- you've to pay for wifi in the apartments although it's free in the restaurant area
- quite removed from the local towns - if you don't have your own car it can be difficult to see any of the area outside the resort complex.

An unconventional look at the vacation of Bulgaria. I love this place, I feel that it is charged with cosmic energy. Sometimes I drive 70 kilometers just to go to the beach sometimes spend the whole weekend here.
North coast is as enchanted. I can not describe the sights that are revealed by high cliffs. Kaliakra is hanging over the sea from just such a high cliff. Great pools, bars, restaurants, and spacious rooms in the closed complex of high walls. You have everything at hand and no need to go out.
However, if you go out of the complex you can go down to the beach, go to the Cape Kaliakra, you can visit the mussel farm or play golf at one of the best golf courses in the world called "Thracian Cliffs". Nearby is the town of Balchik, there is one of the largest botanical gardens and ancient palace of Queen Anne.
Here I find truly unique vacation for myself, although I live very close, only 70 miles away. I guess you'll like

It was an amazing weekend.. last summer at Kaliakria resort . Great View, great room, nice food...the breakfast was great with the most incredible view....
I actually looked forward for breakfast :))
A downside was the water in the pool that was cold as ice, even though it was July and it was amazingly hot outside.
The problem is with the reception...when i checked in i told them that the wi fi in my apartment was not working...they didn't fix it at all ( i called 5 times in 3 days )...and when i had to pay the room at the end of my trip they charged me with the wifi that did not work for the period spent there....and they also tried to rip me off by charging way more that what i payed in advance for.
I had a 2 bedroom apartment and they tried to make me pay 200 euro more than my friends that had a 4 room apartment.

We spent a week-end in the resort between 24-26 August 2012 and found the place quite nice and relaxing. We had a two bedroom apartment with a large living room and 2 bathrooms and a kitchen area, idela for a family with children of for longer stays since there was everything you needed if you wanted to fix something to eat. The resort features great pools and beautiful landscapes (if you have an apartment with a sea view). There are covered beds where you can sit and unwind and we were told that they were only available for the guests in apartments therefore we had the chance to use them. The restaurants are located so you can also enjoy the sea view. Breakfast was simple but there were good, fresh products.

We were in Kaliakria Resort from 1 to 5 August 2012. We booked a one bedroom apartment with pool view. The apartment is great, quite large, with a fully equipped kitchenette and a wide, about 15 sq.m balcony with two nice sofas. Everything in the resort makes you feel comfortable, and they didn't use the cheapest furniture and decoration, which gives you a nice, almost "at home" feeling.
The restaurant view is really breathtaking, but is more than two times more expensive than a nice good restaurant. We paid 60 EUR for a small dinner (2 salads, 2 starters, 2 deserts and a bottle of fair wine), while it's normal to pay about 30 EUR for a larger dinner at an Indian or Sushi restaurant in Sofia (with a bottle of quality wine). Well, we have to say that the food is of really high quality, unlike the service, which does not correspond to such a luxury restaurant.
The breakfast is of a high quality, but one and the same every day. Besides, there is always something missing - either napkins, or cups, or knives.
The Bendida beach is quite far away and is a very small one, part of some golf resort, which makes it impossible to find a free space during a weekend, and quite hard during the week. Fortunately, there are plenty of nice beaches around, but every beach is accessible only by car and there are barely any signs, so you really need to know where you're going.
As for the service, I don't think it corresponds to the prices : from all the staff, there was only one woman at the reception that was smiling. They change the blankets every 3 days, and they changed ours with a pair of dirty ones! Besides, you have one small roll of toilet paper and you need to ask for more almost every day at the reception.
In brief, I find this place a perfect one for a complete relaxation, comfort and rest. The garden, the pools, the birds and the view make it also a wonderful place to go with your little child. I also liked the fact that the resort was about 1/4 full, which contributes to the rest, too.
Will definitely return!

We've been to Kalakria for 2 nights, from July 4th to 6th. We booked a one bedroom apartment with pool view, but we could see a part of the sea between the buildings in front of us.
The apartment is large, well equipped, it even included a small kitchen with appliances and everything required for cooking and dining.
We really loved the big pool and the pool bar, in fact this pool was one of the five in the complex.
Breakfast was not that varied, but the location is really special, El Balcon del Mondo Restaurant.
I would recommend this place for couples wanting to get away for a few days or young families with children.
Food at El Balcon del Mondo is expensive and is French, which means great food and flavours, but small portions. If you want something special, dine at El Balcon del Mondo, the sea view is absolutely amazing. Otherwise, I would recommend tourists to dine at Dalboka Mussel Farm, the place is special and the food, mainly based on the fresh mussels they grow 300 meters from the restaurant, is really good.

Room Tip: If possible, book an apartment with sea view, the view is breathtaking.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Kaliakria Apart Hotel is located in one of the most picturesque spots of the Black Sea region, about 60km north of Varna. The town of Balchik with its new modern port for sailing yachts is very close. The area inspires with quiet bays and secluded beaches, as well as with the recently created championship golf courses and the annual amateur sailing competitions like the International Black Sea Regatta and Kaliakria Cup.There has been a generous planning of interior and exterior space with maximum exposure towards the unique view of the picturesque bay located between Balchik and Kavarna. Created in harmony with the ecological and topographic character of the area, the project is designed by the Spanish architects Kloster & Notenson and elegantly combines Mediterranean style with local finishing touches such as wrought iron railings, wooden pergolas, stone walls and flooring, terracotta-coloured walls, well-kept gardens with over 60 types of plants, bushes and trees, charming water installations, etc.The spacious apartments have large balconies and, without exception, all have a view to the pools or the golf course and the see beyond. ... more   less
