“A Holiday Worth Remembering”
Reviewed June 8, 2012

Hotel Pinewood offers a very sedate, relaxed, calm and that "away from the crowds" stay.

The treks around the hills are simply amazing. I personally recommend [a] Jungle trek to Barog railway station --- it passes thru the fascinating pinewood forest where one enjoys nature at its best, and [b] Hill trek to the Barog Camp site --- it offers an amazing view of the hils around Barog.

The staff are courteous and helpful, the food is good (a little pricey tough), the rooms spacious and parking space in abundance.

I recommend Pinewood to all those who like a short weekend gateway and who enjoy mountain treks.

Room Tip: All the rooms have spacious balconies that offer views of the hills :)

I stayed with my family for 2 days and it was good experince. Food was also good.
One should try rooms at ground floor as it has best view of valley. There is nothing much to wander around. I will recommened this place for peace lovers.Dont forget evening tea at open garden.

having stayed at many HPTDC properties all across himachal ... u can always safely bet on them!
n the pinewood is no different.. for have seen the pinewood being inaugurated right before my eyes and hordes of vehicles just to get in .. during its golden era ... its become quiet a laid back place for families during weekend or short breaks!
yes..till the time the barog by-pass had come up,this was the preffered place for a stop over or a full stay for most of the tourists visiting shimla n beyond.but since the by-pass has come up..with most of the vehicles giving the rather steep - but much pleasent - drive upto barog ... pinewood mite have lost bit of its charm it earned during its hey days ... bt its still a very nice cozy n best of all .. homely place to stay!
the rooms r pretty big and so r the bathrooms.its a decent property with nice staff and good food.never expect anything flamboyant from any of the HPTDC properties ... except for the chail palace ... but trust me n they r the safest bets, anytime of the year.
the flowers r a big attractions in themselves at pinewood and they r big.you have ample rooms n a small hall also for some indoor games.
just sit in the lawn or at the cafe in the sun and have a lazy breakfast or brunch n just savour the peace n tranquility which u wont get in the plains ... or for that matter even in shimla now a days!
just get down to the market from the hotel n take the local bus to visit the barog railway station .. n one would not like to leave that place at all! really wanted to thank the english for having made a railway station as beautiful as the one at barog! there r couple of rooms there n with the nearest road being at least 200-300 mts away ... u feel absolutely cut-off from the rest of the world, reminded only by a train arriving at the station.

Room Tip: go for the deluxe rooms on the ground floor with which u get the lawn to boot and easy access to the...

The hotel is about 2-3 Kms from Kumarhatti. It is nice hotel with too cooperative staff. The NXB rooms are bit outside the main building, one need to walk few mtrs from them to reach restaurant. The food served is neat and clean with home taste and less spices. Though there is nothing to wander around nearby the hotel as Barog is purely meant for calm and quite stay and relaxation. There is one cafe at hotel which is pretty famous for people around, we tried their cofee, tea etc. which was fabulous.

Room Tip: Beware of monkeys

Barog itself is a nice place and the hotel is well-located and huge. Rooms are quite big with big bathroom and the staff is quite courteous and helpful

However, if they could maintain/ clean the rooms, stay would be even better. Food also was a bit stale. Had expected better than that.

Proper cleaning/ dusting of room and attached bath had not been done. Light was broken and TV would run on either very low or very high volumes.

Perhaps since we went during off-season, food was stale.

The hotel is perched as it were on a small hill overlooking the Churchandni ridge and the valley beyond. At night the surroundings glitter and shimmer as if showing off their best dress and fancy lights. In the morning, the smell of pinewood and the food from the cafetaria below mingle to give you a heady feeling.

The pine trees, the scenic and trand tranquil beauty of this place along with all the monkeys leaves you blissful and wanting more. The hotel has everything going for it. The rooms are a bit unkempt and need upgrading. Prices are a tad higher than you'd expect in a government establishment (HPTDC) run hotel. And yet you will forgive the hotel all its shortcomings when you leave with a bagful of wonderful memories and soul satisfying views. Definitely recommend

Comfy rooms with complete carpet, all rooms have individual balcony.. courteous staff and good food... Good Option for weekend getaway.. can go trekking as well.. You can either go to Dharampur or Solan for some shopping... But, do not plan by train.. 8/10
