“A very pleasant hotel.”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

We had been to an evening wedding reception here two years ago and so this hotel was our first choice for an overnight stay when visiting friends. We weren't disappointed! A warm welcome and a lovely room greeted us. The decor was clean and fresh looking throughout. A good sized car park.and in keeping with the name of the hotel the courtyard gardens were delight. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast and the staff were very attentive. Sadly it was only for one night but we will definitely return.

Late review of this hotel, stayed beginning of January for 2 nights in the "fleur de leys" room. The room was very basic, the fixtures and fitting a little tired, and everywhere smelled a little musty, but was very clean.

I did not eat in the restaurant at night, but did have breakfast which was quite nice, full english, cereals, toast etc.

Overall an acceptable stay whilst on business.

Room Tip: I stayed in one on the rooms in the main hotel, the annexe rooms may be better ?

This is a great little hotel/B&B in Ruddington. The rooms are not the most modern but they make up for that in size, i travelled with friends and we had 2 double rooms, both unique with Bedroom, Sitting Room and great bathrooms, all rooms extremely clean and well looked after.

Breakfast the next morning was a lovely buffet breakfast, not a massive buffet but the quality made up for the quantity.

The Hotel is in Ruddington, but there are bus-stops right outside that take you straight into Nottingham town centre.

Rooms could do with modernising, and the location is not the best if your heading into Nottingham, but the Hotel itself more than makes up for this. Would stay again.

Arriving from north take A60 south off the A52 and after a mile take a right turn to Ruddington. not left as my Sat Nav kept insisting A large building on the left which looks like an hotel is in fact a nursing home and Country Cottage around 100 yards further on the left.

A last minute booking ;we had previously been on a Groupon deal and was offered a special deal which now includes a full English breakfast and two course evening meal.

We were welcomed pleasantly by David and shown to our room - the Courtyard suite about 10 yards from the hotel rear entrance with umbrella provided. David turned out to be Jack of all Trades later acting as barman, dinner waiter all whilst preparing for a wedding the following day.

Our room was a lovely surprise being one of the top rooms in the hotel and shown on the hotels web page. A sizeable sitting area with TV, dressing table, easy chair and settee with on the right a large raised bedroom with a comfortable king size bed, with crisp sheets, dressing area and TV and to the left a raised bathroom with deep roll top bath and large corner shower. Décor was excellent with country olde worlde feel On our earlier visit we had a garden room with which we were enchanted but this was even better. Not for Country Cottage to put deal customers into the cheapest accommodation, more like best available.

The hotel has free wifi but I was having problems with my lap top connection and David kindly offered the use of the hotels lap top.

We were advised the hotel had a new chef and he did not disappoint. For dinner from a small but eclectic menu I chose braised scallops for starters and rib eye steak with double cooked chips both excellently cooked whilst my wife had goats cheese tart and duck both declared delicious, and no room for desert.

Breakfast was served promptly and to order with hot thick toast and coffee. Again ample portions with both continental and full English available.

All staff were pleasant and helpful. Do we recommend? Definitely!!

A lovely return visit which we hope to repeat in the near future

Room Tip: Ask for their special deal

booked in to this hotel for a night of peace and quiet (we only live 10 miles away!) and a change of scenary. we had the 'Wisteria' suite, it was a lovely room, very clean, heating was off when we arrived but worked very quickly and a very comfortable bed.
breakfast was beautiful, good selection of cereals, croissants, danish pastries and fresh fruit salad as well as a freshly cooked full english. 3 fruit juices and a choice of tea and coffee to drink. breakfast was 7-9am and a bonus of not having to vacate the room until 11am, which ment we had time to have a lie down to let breakfast go down!
will definately go back again.

Room Tip: Wisteria was a lovely roon, very spacious!

visited this hotel for 2 nights as its near by our friends. Decor in our room very dated windows wouldnt open as they were painted over and very very blue even the beams were painted powder blue. First night we were the only 2 in the hotel and yet cooked breakfast arrived looking dried up and not freshly cooked at all. The next morning we wanted to have breakfast early checked the times from 7.30 am arrived at 7.40 with the night porter still on duty and NO other staff no chef no one! After being made tea we waited a full 30 mins for staff to arrive....no one! we left to pack and then went to pay the bill...staff had just walked in but still putting tie on as he spoke to us he and chef had overslept...in his shirt by the looks of it! Full of apologies didnt bother to ask if wed like breakfast now or if we had enjoyed our stay knocked £20 quid of bill and rushed us out...will not be going back.

we have dined here several time and it is always lovely except when we bring guests which always seems to jink our experience and yesterday was no exception
2 of us had the pork which was lovely but 3, including my daughter, had the beef which was very tough
the veg was nice and varied but the main component spoiled this
we waited a while for the table to be cleared, dessert orders taken and delivered - 2 people (unfortunately the same ones who had the beef) had mint choc cheesecake and both said it was bland and definitely no mint whereas those who had pork had a lovely fruit crumble
our daughter did have an adult main course but no other courses so was a bit disappointed that we were charged for 2 courses
overall we had a nice time with our friends and some of the food was lovely but the inconsistencies spoiled it a bit
as always the staff were very pleasant
