“Food not great accommodation nice”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

We stayed here on a one night groupon deal the room was very nice apart from a little mould in the shower staff were very friendly on the night we stayed we were the only ones eating in the restraunt. The meal that we had was very sub standard I had the steak which wasn't great and the pepper sauce was not nice some of the other reviews say the food was good so maybe we turned up on the chefs day off.

We stayed at the Country Cottage Hotel earlier this month. From arriving to leaving we experienced hospitality that was fantastic and second to none! The hotel gardens are wonderful and if you have good weather the courtyard is great to sit out in and have a drink (or two!). Our bedroom was very quaint and extremely comfortable with excellent products and a powerful shower which in a lot of hotels is often not the case. Our dinner was great and the restaurant was very bustling which was great for people watching. We opted for the standard continental breakfast which was plentiful and we left feeling very satisfied. All in all I have given our stay 5*! There are far too many hotels which lack character where you can't relax as soon as you step foot in the door. This is definitely a home from home hotel. Highly recommended.

My husband and I had a reservation through Groupon. The first impressions were very good, being extremely pretty with all the beautiful hanging baskets everywhere and after being shown to our lovely room (the Honeysuckle room) we were delighted and were looking forward to a pleasant evening. We chose to eat in the dining room which lacked ambiance and felt more like a canteen. The young staff were running around like headless chickens but the food was very nice. By 9pm the whole place was deserted so after a walk around the village we decided to return to our room for an early night, The bed was comfortable and the furnishings and decor both clean and pleasant. From then on it was a nightmare. Every 15 minutes a very loud clunking noise sounded from what we can only assume was the hot water pipes/boiler which was above the stairwell leading to the room. The noise lasted for at least a minute each time making it impossible to get to sleep. At 3am, after unsuccessfully searching for a night porter, we had had enough and decided to drive home, by which time we were very stressed and miserable. So much for a relaxing break! The following day we telephoned the hotel to let them know what had happened and the receptionist apologised and offered a full refund but when we mentioned we had bought through Groupon she said the owner would ring us. So far no such phone call!!! If you are thinking of booking this hotel ask not to stay in either Honeysuckle of Wisteria rooms as each are adjacent to the offending boiler.

Room Tip: Dont's stay in Honesuckle or Wisteria or in that block

Stayed here just for 1 night after me and my wife got married at ruddington golf course, it's a really lush place, our room was the courtyard suite. It was £120 per night so quite pricey. Has 2 tv's nicely decorated to the cottage feel, big deep bath. Randomly someone tried coming into our room when we were in the bath, no knocks or anything, just heard the handle go down but luckily it was locked. I'm just assuming it was the cleaning staff?! Breakfast was nice full English with cereal fruit etc... When we were eating we heard a man huffing and puffing because we were eating our breakfast at 9.50 when breakfast is 8-10. Found it quite rude. Other than that it's really nice but I only spent one night here.

I booked this hotel as a Group on earlier in the year - the receptionist when I booked was very pleasant and helpful but spoilt my inital impression by then telling me they didn't confirm the booking for Group on customers by email. Why? it doesn't cost anything.
On our arrival date we were greeted by the ? manager who was polite but slightly cool/distant. We were shown to our room on the second floor up a musty smelling set of stairs. Our big concern here was that although there were plenty of fire extinguishers they didn't appear to be any fire escape from the second floor. The room was a reasonable size and beautifully clean. Free Wifi was available and the TV had Sky, The bed was very comfortable - still using sheets and blankets here and decent size towels were also provided. The shower in the bathroom was very powerful and the toiletries provided were nice.Carpet on the bathroom floor was a bit dated and not very well fitted. Although we were on the main road opposite the pub it soon quietened down and we had a peaceful night.
The young girls on the bar and resturant were very friendly. Our main gripe with the evening meal was that although there was a reasonably varied choice of main courses (£5 extra for steak for Groupon customers) everyone had to pay £3 per item for chips/potatoes/salad or vegetables. So if you didn't you just got a lump of steak or piece of salmon - we found this slightly strange. The decor whilst I suppose it is supposed to be country cottage just comes across as a bit tired. We found the breakfast to be very good - £5 extra for Group on customers again if we wnated a full English! But the Continental was also fine with good selection of cereal, juices, yogart and pastries.

like:
room, bed, shower, location, staff
dislike:
food (cheapest possible produce used for breakfast), nothing special dinner. Village hall feel to dining room.
Tip:
Don't be fooled by the special offers. Standard rooms are not worth £150. A little less than half that is more realistic.

Lovely quaint hotel, staff very friendly, our room was really nice with a separate lounge area with a sofa, chairs and tv, the bathroom was huge and very clean. Our evening meal was good, nicely presented and tasty sreved by pleasant staff. The only let down was the continental breakfast, the items looked very bland and not at all inviting but the toast was satifactory. We would stay at this hotel again but only if it was a special deal.

Room Tip: We stayed in the pink room which was lovely
