“Lovely place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

We stayed here for four days in December. The house is lovely with good facilities and nice decor, set in the centre of a very quiet village. The hosts, Di and John, made us feel very welcome, so this was more like staying in a home than a hotel. The location is great if you just want to relax in rural spain. It is about two hours drive to each of Seville and Granada, and a bit further to cordoba, and only twenty minutes from ronda.

W did not eat dinner here, but the breakfasts were lovely

Despite appalling weather conditions early November we had a truly relaxing and cosy stay at Los Castanos. For a few days we were the only guests - Di cooked us some fabulous evening meals, breakfasts were great too, always something different - John looked after us so well and always had time to chat. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a balcony and great view. The autumn colours of the chestnut covered hills changed every day. Days out with local bird expert were very enjoyable too - we hope to return to this lovely place some time.

My wife and I stayed for 11 days at Los Castanos at the end of October and had the wonderful opportunity to experience a full spectrum of the local weather, ranging from glorious sunny days spent walking around Ronda, to awesome rain storms spent in the comfort of the hotel, around the fireplace...
Di has created a charming hotel, perfectly designed to be both intimate and inviting, and one can easily choose to either retreat in one's cosy and charming room, or engage in conversation with other guests in the lovely dining room or the small, fragrant courtyard/garden. The views from the roof terrace are sublime!
John assists Di in running the hotel and they both provide great guidance for the guests, in order to take full advantage of the local wonders- best places to eat, best pueblo blancos to visit, most beautiful walks and drives.
We thank them both for a most memorable vacation.

What a wonderful place: amazing attention to detail in the rooms, super breakfast, extremely friendly (but non-invasive!) hosts, and beautifully prepared dinners, including veggie. The village is located off a rather scary, but relatively short length of mountain road, with lovely chestnut woods down into the valley below, and limestone crags above. Superb walking country all around, the delights of Ronda 20 minutes away, but simply stay at Los Castanos and let the relaxing atmosphere seep into you. We shall return soon.

3 of us stayed a week in Los Castanos as our base for a walking holiday in the white villages of Andalucia. The hotel accommodation was charming; food delicious; and our hosts Di and John looked after our individual needs so well, whilst ensuring all guests had a chance to share their experiences. Would love to return.

We've just returned from a wonderful week's walking holiday based at this hidden gem of a hotel in the Alto Genal. The walking was excellent (even if the temperatures were unusally high for the time of year!) but the real pleasure was returning to this haven of comfort and tranquility. Everything that other reviewers have said about Di and John's hospitality, friendliness and willingness to meet our every need was demonstarted each day. Our room was spacious, beautifuly furnished and the bed was large and extremely comfortable. All the little extras you could ask for were there - toiletries, bathrobes, tea and coffee, sketch pad and a well stocked mini-bar.
The lounge and dining areas were very stylish and comfortable but the 'piece de resistance' to us was the beautiful hidden courtyard garden where we ate on a couple of occasions.
Di's cooking was delicious and beautifully presented. She rose to the challenge of catering for a vegetarian and suceeded brilliantly. Seven evenings and seven immaginative dishes. All prepared with such thought and skill, each made for a memorable meal. Never looked after so well before says Angela.
