I had never visited the Alps in the summer only ever when under several feet of snow but it did not disappoint. The chalet is in a super location, quiet and very relaxing but close to many beautiful places for day trips, walks, restaurants and cafes. The chalet is beautifully designed, well equipped, very comfortable, the decor is super chic and the children loved the open plan living/kitchen space, perfect for playing.
The day spent at the Lake at Montriond was a big highlight and something not to be missed.
First class accommodation finished thoughtfully and to a very high spec by the owners. We explored the local area on foot and by bike by day and enjoyed the sprawling sofa to relax in the evening. Kids still raving about how comfortable the bunk beds were and the delightful smell of wood that permeates the chalet.
Pleasantly surprised by how much the Alps has to offer in the summer, spent a long weekend and wished we'd had longer.
Great alpine swimming in Lac Montrieand, with water warmer and clearer than many beaches. Kids enjoyed swimming in the lake almost as much as the water park 10 mins away in nearby Avoriaz.
Local road cycling lived up to its billing, challenging Cols with switchbacks to climb but epic descents with hairpin bends the reward on the way down. Didn't get a chance to mountain bike but extremely popular in the areas judging by the number of MTB riders we passed.
Local pub and restaurant just a short walk away, big beers and bigger pizzas.
We stayed at Maison Deux Cent for a skiing holiday this winter and it served our needs perfectly. The chalet is well equipped with all we needed for the adults and kids in the party, with the middle floor (open plan kitchen/dining/lounge) being the highlight and where we spent all of our time other than sleeping. Whether sitting around the dining table for afternoon tea while the kids watched TV in the lounge, or cooking up a feast for dinner, it's the heart of the house and a comfy retreat to return to after a day on the slopes. (Where did you get the light over the dining table?!?)
The upstairs bedrooms are well served by an en suite each, with an interesting layout that works well, and I particularly liked the huge picture on the bedroom wall! Downstairs are a couple more bedrooms, another bathroom, some storage and the ski room (boot heaters - brilliant!).
The local ski area is small but characterful, and the adventurous can just about ski back to the chalet! Of the 2 restaurants at the top of the bubble, we thought the further one was the best for lunch. Grande Terche is good for beginners and will keep better skiers interested for their first day or two before heading to the bigger challenges of Morzine/Avoriaz etc. which we found easiest to access via Ardent rather than Morzine itself. Personally, we found being away from the hustle & bustle of the big resorts, but close enough to take advantage of their huge ski area, to be far preferable. The peace and general 'homely' feeling in SJdA is a world away from the manic (and expensive!!) better known local resorts.... Perfect! We didn't have powder on our week, but I think if you get lucky Grande Terche could be a little gem, I'd imagine you'll have it all to yourself on a powder day!
There is a decent pizza to be had at the main restaurant in the village - the challenge is to get a smile out of Bill...! We managed - by the end of the week we'd won him round!!
We didn't have much need for the help that is on hand with the local contact, Chris. But the couple of times we did see him he was hugely helpful and a font of local knowledge. We dealt direct with the owner when booking, all dealt with very smoothly.
We've been to many places on our skiing travels, but have rarely returned to places... That will change with Maison Deux Cent - we'll definitely be back!
Maison Deux Cent were very accommodating with our request for long weekend break.
The Chalet lived up to all our expectations and more. Finish was first class and high end finishes all round from fixtures and fittings. We used the Apple TV to review our footage every night from the days adventures. Sonos was brilliant to wake some of the house up in the morning and to be able to have different music in the rooms was a nice touch. Good speed internet as well which was good from previous experience of homes in France.
After a long day on the slopes things we appreciate are, good heating (underfloor in most of the house) Good showers and Baths and enough hot water to boot.
We would happily stay here again and cannot fault the service from start to finish.
We stayed in Chalet “Maison Deux Cent” for a week in February 2017. The entire experience was wonderful. We stayed with 2 families, each with 3 children and it was very comfortable. The chalet is nicely located in Saint-Jean d’Aulps Station, at walking distance from the lifts of Roc d’Enfer.
We found ourselves in a very beautiful chalet, in very beautiful surrounding in a small, unknown, but beautiful little village. With a 20minute ride removed from the well known resorts of Avoriaz / Porte du Soleil, we could choose each day if we wanted to enjoy the smaller resort of Roc d’Enfer or wanted to take advantage of the big ski area. For us, we ended up choosing Roc d’Enfer most of the time as the slopes were great and it was a lot less busy. Our children loved skiing here because it was big enough to get some nice slopes but not too big to get lost all the time.
The chalet “Maison Deux Cent” is very new and is equipped according to the highest standards. The living room is very comfortable, the kitchen is nicely fitted and a pleasure to use, the bedrooms are nice with the Sonos equipment in the upstairs rooms and the bathrooms have nice rain-showers. Gray has attention to detail, we loved for example the beautiful towels with the “Maison Deux Cent” monogram in it. Our children valued the wifi system so they could stay in touch with their friends after a great day of ski.
The chalet was nice and clean and well prepared for our arrival. The instructions manual on how to use everything was clear and combined with the explanation of Chris, we could settle in easily.
Half way into the week when looking for a restaurant we found a nice place called “Bar National” in the main village of Saint Jean that was serving pizza, had friendly service and a pool table. This was really nice for evening entertainment.
For groceries we used the Sherpa for bakery & breakfast and drove to the Carrefour up the road to Morzine for the remainder.
We want to thank Gray as owner and Chris as our local host for their hospitality as we really enjoyed our week in Saint Jean d’Aulps. It was our second stay in this little enclave and we are seriously considering to come back next year, what a little gem this is. For us, “Maison Deux Cent” was a wonderful experience with great memories.
This was our first visit to St.Jean d'Aulp and we chose Maison Deux Cent because of its great location ( virtually on the piste ), the fact that's it's a brand new Chalet , and the short transfer from Geneva Airport .
We were not disappointed.Everything about it says ...quality.From the fantastic fixtures and fittings , Sonos sound system, luxurious towels to the toasty underfloor heating, provision of toys to keep our Grandchildren amused when not playing in the snow. This Chalet caters for every need and feels very homely.
The village shops, friendly bars , restaurants are all within very easy walking distance . Fresh bread and pastries can be ordered in advance from the very French, friendly local supermarket .Larger supermarkets are but a short drive away .
Skiing ; again, the new gondola serving the local area ,is also only a short walk, together with a Ski Set Hire shop and lift pass office .And after a day on the friendly slopes , the Chalet offers a ski room with heated boot rails and a ski drip tray ..all very professional.Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz and the whole of the Porte du Soleil ski area are very close by.
All in all , this Gorgeous, cosy Chalet is a perfect home from home for families or groups . We will most definitely return .
