“What a beautiful place (once you get there)! PURA VIDA”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

This vacation was our 30th wedding anniversary. We purchased the pkg through Living Social and were not disappointed. We upgraded to a bungalow and am glad we did. Not speaking spanish was NOT a problem. I strongly recommending renting a car if visiting Costa Rica. The driving is easy, and the countryside is breathtaking. We know why so many Americans move to CR. The staff were very nice, and could not have been more helpful. The bungalow was beautiful, and unique. Their website shows the bungalows nicely, but only one of them has a refrigerator (the one in the picture), which is an additional charge. And, the rooms do not have coffee makers, which we really missed. I was told by the manager that arrangements were being made to have coffee available around the clock. He said many guests had complained about lack of ready access to coffee, and they were addressing this. Due to being close to the equator the sun is UP by 5:30 AM, but the kitchen staff do not start serving breakfast until 7:00 so getting coffee before breakfast is impossible. I suggest bringing your own coffee maker and coffee if you love your morning java as much as we do. Also no room service is apparently available, because there are no phones from which to call for service. No TV in room, but we did not miss it. We just went to sleep or read, and were asleep by 9PM. A tv is available in the community space near the bar and restuarant. No a/c either, but its also not needed. The overhead fans are sufficient. In room safe worked fine. The road to the property is rough by our standards, but apparently is not to the Tico's. We will definitely go back to Costa Rica, and maybe to this property.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a bungalow to have a private porch, hammock. Check before going if coffee is available af...

Their website pictures don't do it justice. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious. Each cabin has a spaceous porch with a hamock. The cabins have electricity and two ceiling fans but no air conditioning. This wasn't a problem for us even on a hot day. It cools off at night and there are two large screened windows. Hiking trails are a few steps away. The restaurant food is good and fresh. Bar made the best Pina Colada I've ever had. Staff is very friendly and helpful. You must take the hotel tour from Christian. Gives you a great understanding of their sustainability efforts and walk through the forest. I would recommend this place to friends and would love to go back.

We stayed here in July 2013 and found it to be the perfect place to relax after a long flight. We immersed ourselves into the sights and sounds of nature. The lobby and restaurant workers were all friendly and helpful. We loved our villa with the large deck, perfect for observing the thunder and lightening shows which came every afternoon! Please book a hiking tour with Christian before venturing onto the trails. You will not be disappointed. He is very knowledgeable and will make your trip to Costa Rica safer and more interesting. You can read more about our experience on my blog: diane-survivingtheashes.blogspot.com/2013/09/welcome-to-jungle.html

We too found this place from the living social deal and man, are we sure glad we did. The resort in tucked way back in the middle of the rainforest with a bumpy rocky road getting there but totally worth it! (Make sure you have 4WD and good clearance!) The rooms were clean and simple and the hammock on the porch is delightful for your afternoon siesta! If you are looking for a/c, tv, and luxury this may not be the place for you. Although this place is plenty luxurious in its own simplistic, natural way! You wake each morning to wonderful birds of the rainforest and delicious fresh fruit either grown on site or from a local farmer. The food is delicious, the service very accommodating. We will be returning!

Like several other posters, we also found this wonderful place through Living Social. We were pleasantly surprised and shocked at this diamond in the rough! Not only is Costa Rica itself beautiful, but the people are amazing as well. The staff at Chachagua genuinely want to hear about your day and your life and really take the extra step to make your trip awesome.

If you haven't read before, Chachagua Rainforest Hotel is a working ranch. We found out that there are only 32 people that run this gorgeous place. All of the food is organic (either grown on site or brought in from local farmers and butchers). It was amazing to see your eggs for the next morning being brought in by a staff member from the chicken coop and your chef picking herbs an hour before dinner time :)

We got to know many of the staff and wish only the best for all of them! Some people say that the restaurant is less than to be desired, but I, however, must disagree. Yes, the menu is a little small, but every night the chef offers a new special that is unlike anything on the menu. Plus, if you are like us, the chicken and fish dishes taste so good that you don't mind eating it several times! You MUST try the plantains, Grandmother's pineapple, and one of Jimmy's Guaro sours at the bar! All are DELICIOUS!!

The grounds are amazing and there are plenty of hikes and beautiful things to see. I will second the many people that have recommended Christian as a guide. He grew up there and is extremely knowledgeable and willing to spend his own time educating you about their beautiful rainforest and country. Definitely do the night hike if possible....the rainforest really comes alive at night!

I cannot say enough nice things about this place. The pictures do not do it justice. You would be doing yourself a great disservice by not staying here.

We hope to return sometime soon!!

Room Tip: Bungalows are a must! I really loved the hammock!

You know where you are?!?! You're in the jungle baby! Nice resort in the middle of nature. Restaurant's chef is very accommodating and prepares fresh food daily. Fruits are unbelievably fresh and tasty. When we arrived, they tried to blame an overbooking on Expedia and attempted to separate our party of 9. When we told them we weren't having it, they found someone else to bump. We spoke to another family whom they tried to do the same thing to. They were pleasant about it but still not how you expect to be greeted. You can hike around the property at your leisure. The road getting there is quite bumpy and rocky. We even saw sloths on the grounds!

Unexpected Cuisine at it's finest. This diamond in the rough is off the beaten path, but past references kept tugging at my curiosity for the past five or six visits to C.R. It's now near the top of my most enjoyable places to visit. If your laid back and don't want to travel much and just enjoy nature and quiet evenings with the sounds of life all around you, these individual bungalows fit the occasion. The chef, Cecilia was amazing. In May, 2013, four of us shared the entire resort with one other newly married couple. Every meal was an eye poping, taste pleasing and anticipated event. Unassuming Cecilia and her staff put on a culinary show right out of the TV show (TOP Cheff). Toucans were everywhere and the grounds were imaculate. The pool was refreshing and naps were awsome in the open air screened bungalows. No need for A/C. Bungalows 201-204 & odd #'s 101-115 are our favorites. Just don't go in May so we can have the place to ourselves. Cajun Dreamer

Room Tip: Bungalows 201-204 & odd #'s 101-115 are shadier and some face the stream.
