My Husband and I stayed at Chachagua Rainforest Hotel for our Honeymoon! We absolutely loved the experience! If you are looking for a resort where your every need is catered to, and you would like to be waited on hand and foot, this hotel is not for you! But, if you enjoy independence (with of course helpful guidance), relaxed simplicity, privacy, and untouched beauty, then this is exactly the place for you! Yes, the rooms did not have A/C, they were also very rustic, but the nice breeze coming through the windows and the very comfortable accomodations were just what we were looking for. The front porch was amazing, nd my Husband and I enjoyed spending time on the couch and hammock while being serenaded by rainfall. It was extremely relaxing! It is located up a very steep and bumpy road ( would not suggest taking mountain bikes down to the town close by as it was quite the ride back up the bumpy road haha), but the seclusion is un-parallelled to any hotel we have every stayed at! The food was delicious, and if you can be outgoing enough to ask about the breakfast options, you will find that there are choices. The restaraunt and bar were very quaint, relaxing, and cozy! We did not know exactly where the hotwl was, but we printed out the brochure listing and just showed it to our taxi driver and he got us there! He even had to stop and ask for directions once himself haha, but he got us there and stopped at all the beautiful places along the way for us to take pictures! We will definitely be staying at the Chachagua Rainforest Hotel again and look forward to the beauty and relaxation it offers!

Room Tip: The smaller rooms offer A/C, but do not let that sway your decision as the rooms without A/C are big...

The entire family spent Thansgiving at this resort last year. It was more than we expected. The accommodations were excellent, the food, the kindness and efficiency of the staff was beyond the call. Our little children experience nature like they have never seen before. A most relaxing and perfect stay. This is indeed Paradise.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies facing the river

Our reservation was lost and the directions on google maps are wrong. The hotel is south of Chachagua several Km and 2.5 km up a very bumpy dirt road. The Rainforest room does not have a spa tub or hot water. Our safe didn't work and there were no blinds in the shower room. The room is not insulated and has large cracks in the walls and bathroom floor. We did not have enough blankets and were cold during the night. The breakfast was buffet and not very good. We checked out the next morning. The hotel failed to inform us of their cancellation policy and we had to pay for the whole booking.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

Chachagua offered a true glimpse into the rain forest ecology in Costa Rica, including the surrounding farming communities. A highlight of our stay was the horseback ride with Carlos into the hills and through the nearby village. The riding is western style without bits, on VERY gentle horses who do all the work The ranch's dog Camilla went along for the adventure. The wildlife and birds on the property were amazing- we saw three types of toucans, heard howler monkeys and watched a three-toed sloth for hours The spring fed pool was a refreshing respite although the air temperature was never too hot or too cold. Finally there was no need to go offsite because the restaurant offered fresh and typical Costa Rican food at great prices Fresh fruit drinks, fresh vegetables and meats, and a Saturday night Costa Rican "theme" dinner- yum.

we stayed here 2 nights but wanted to stay longer. The surroundings were beautiful, well worth the horrible bumpy ride to get there. The highlight of our stay there was our hike with our guide, Christian. He is a wonderful guide who loves and is passionate about his job. Without a guide you won't see much wildlife.

All the staff was very friendly and accomodating. The manager saw my niece and nephew trying to open a coconut so brought us fresh ones with the tops cut off so the kids could drink the water. Later another staff member used a machate to open the coconut so we could eat it.

Again, Christian the guide was the highlight. Do not go there without taking a hike with him, you'll learn a lot.

Room Tip: stay in one of the individual cabins, it's worth it

We were supposed to stay two nights but ended up staying three as we both had a nasty tummy bug (contracted elsewhere) and we didn't feel well enough to travel. The restaurant staff in particular were wonderful to us, making dishes we could eat, including a wonderful herbal tea which improved the stomachs in an hour.
The rooms are very clean and extremely comfortable. They were cool with the ceiling fans and we spent much of our time sitting on the deck.
We would recommend you are not in rooms 201 to 204 as they are close to the restaurant and the stereo base was booming through our room.
The best part was the birds in the morning near the restaurant. Quite spectacular.

Chachagua Rainforest hotel & Hacienda is amazing! It's quite literally in the middle of nowhere on a very large, wooded rural property that's home to a delightful variety of flora and fauna. You ford a stream to get to the Haciendas, and are wakened by howler monkeys in the morning. The Haciendas are enormous, made of locally sourced wood. Each hacienda has it's own private porch with a sofa, rocker and hammock. And the bathrooms are open to the outdoors (don't worry, not in a way that impacts your modesty) to experience the rainforest first hand. There's no telephone, TV, or alarm clock, but after the first night, you won't miss is one little bit! The on-site restaurant serves a wonderful home-made Costa Rican breakfast...more on that buffet than you could ever eat! The dinners were also good, though quite expensive. We quickly decided to eat our big meal in the middle of the day and grab a quick snack in La Fortuna before we headed back to Chachagua.

If you're looking for a great place to relax and shut out the world, this is it! The only thing I would not suggest is the on-property horseback riding. An accident at the stables resulted in a first-hand experience with the Costa Rican healthcare system...which was excellent....but an undesired excursion. I will say that the staff was excellent...and very helpful with the gimpy one when we returned to the resort.

Overall, it was an outstanding experience and an amazing respite at Chachagua!

Room Tip: Any of the haciendas will be wonderful!
