Wonderful visit to a little part of paradise

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 20, 2019
I just returned from a fabulous stay at Finca Luna Nueva. My parents and I were visiting my daughter at the nearby Texas A&M Soltis Center. The staff could not have been more friendly and knowledgeable. We went on several tours at Finca including the birding tour, the farm tour and the night hike. Roy was a wonderful guide and has an amazing ability to spot wildlife. We saw sloths, toucans, frogs and so much more! The chocolate tour with Carlos was so fun, and we got to make our own chocolate bars! Egenia and Danny helped us book tours off site and found us some great hiking and river experiences. The food was amazing and came straight from the farm. The wait staff, specifically Byron and Ariel, were very attentive and provided excellent service. The owners of Finca Luna, Tom and Steve, were very involved and welcoming to us. My parents were both science teachers and truly enjoyed the discussions on regenerative farming and composting methods. We also loved the pool, hot tub and spa (Kinga gives a great massage). I highly recommend this lodge to anyone looking for a true Costa Rican experience.

This is a true eco-lodge with such an abundance of wildlife, on farm organic food that is prepared superbly by a gracious and accommodating staff. There are trails, tropical fruit ripening within arms reach, streams, and birds galore. The facilities are immaculate, and it is such a delightful change to wake up to the sounds of nature instead of traffic.

We saw our first sloth 15 min after our arrival! And closer than many we saw afterwards in parcs.

Finca Luna is in the forest. You get to see wildlife, you only hear birds and crickets, you can grab fruits from the trees. In the swimming pool and at the yoga center, you feel like being in the middle of the rain forest. Great yoga teacher by the way!

The service has been excellent from the welcome to the checkout. We got a great massage with very little notice. The 2-hour tour included in the price is very educative on how they grow their food, manage their cows, make honey, etc.

Tennis table, table football, librairie all available at the lobby.

Great breakfast: home made food, choice and quality.

The rooms are simple, with AC. We got a villa and they got enough privacy (not sure that the rooms in the main building have the same privacy...).

Being in the forest comes with a distance from La Fortuna so you’d better have a car.

Congrats to the Finca Luna team for what you are offering and for the great service! One of our favorites on Costa Rica.

This is an outstanding eco-friendly small resort tucked in the rain forest. We loved our four nights in the moon lodge, which is a rustic yet clean and well appointed room. The property, which abuts Children's Eternal Rainforest is an amazing place to explore and to witness wildlife, birds, bio-dynamic farming in action. You really don't have to leave the property to experience the joys and treasures of Costa Rica. The farm-to-table food is prepared wonderfully. I have never tasted cauliflower so good! Eugenia in reception and Roy their naturalist were both a real pleasure to get to know. The Farm tour and Night Tour are super informative. We would have walked right by the sloths, glass frogs, red-eyed frogs, bullet ants, eyelash viper and numerous birds had it not been for Roy. All staff were exceptionally friendly and engaging. The hotel arranged for a private naturalist (Alberto since Roy was booked) to accompany us on the grounds around the Pocosol Station in the Children's Eternal Rainforest. That outing was well worth the effort for the nature we saw!

Room tip: Moon Lodge's 4 rooms are separated only by beautiful wood planks still we never heard neighbors. The cottages look more private.

The whole place looks beautiful. The houses, the restaurant and pool are all very good. Breakfast and diner were nice. Most of the food is home grown. The concept and idea behind the property is really nice and very interesting. The tour by Steven around the property explaining about the different trees, plants, herbs, fruits and regenerative agriculture was an absolute highlight. His knowledge about the ecological balance is unique and you can listen to him for hours.

Room tip: We had a family house number 6. Nice view from terrace and hammock, good place for looking and listening to birds and monkeys.
