“Beautiful dives, good vibes, nice people !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

I made 5 dives in April with Carlos from Arrecifal and I really don't regret my choice. He took us to amazing dive sites, especially El Bajon :) I am divemaster in Tenerife so I dive quite a lot there, but diving in El Hierro is definitly different and unique. And Carlos and Anita are so friendly and nice that diving is even more fun ! good atmosphere, nice dive center, nice fast boat and good organisation. I really enjoyed my time there, thank you Carlos !

“Clear, calm waters - and we dived El Bajon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

The Spanish seem to have been keeping one of the best dive sites in Europe quiet - and understandably so. El Hierro is a fascinating island in itself, but with a marine reserve, beautiful clear waters and plenty of life, La Restinga in the south provides an even better diving experience.
There are 10 dive centres to choose from (in a village with just 400 people), and we were exceptionally lucky to have chosen Arrecifal, not only because they are lots of fun to dive with, but also they are one of the only English speaking schools on the island.
Carlos and Anita were hugely helpful all throughout the booking process - arranging accommodation, recommending car hire, etc, - and agreed to take just two of us diving, even though they had only returned from holiday themselves the day before.
This doesn't prepare you, however, for the sheer joy of diving with two people who obviously absolutely love the sea and all the variety of marine flora and fauna around El Hierro. Carlos, in particular, has some of the best eyes in the business, even spotting a bumblebee shrimp and a rare crab on a night dive in the harbour.
The diving itself is fantastic. In Mar de las Calmas, the name says it all - there is a huge wind shadow, which makes the dive sites very sheltered and there is little in the way of current. Instead, there is lots of life, including trumpetfish, octopus, rays and interesting crabs. Round the corner, into the wind and the current (for the more experienced diver), there is El Bajon, where we saw a shoal of barracuda and chub, as well as the resident groupers and eels. Even further round there are pinnacles to swim through (owing to volcanic landscape) and yet more life.
Throughout the week, Carlos and Anita took us to some great sites and, most of all, made the whole experience a great laugh (even while being safe). Would definitely recommend them to any level of diver and hope to dive with them again soon.

“Brilliant diving, great holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

We spent a few days at El Hierro as part of a autumn holiday to the Canary Islands. Carlos arranged a great (and very affordable) apartment for us. My boyfriend was a new diver, whereas I have some qualifications but am still gaining confidence. He took time to plan dives suitable for both of us that still offered beautiful views. He selected and checked our equipment carefully, and generally went out of his way to make sure the diving was a success.

The dives were fascinating. There is a lot of underwater volcanic features, caves and tunnels. These are perfect for both seeing sealife, and appreciating the light passing through the rocks etc. It was beautiful, and different to what I have seen diving elsewhere.

El Hierro is a charming, varied island a little aside from the main tourist areas of the Canaries. I would highly recommend a visit, and can't praise Arrecifal diving enough. They turned me from an unsure nervous diver to someone who can not wait to dive again!

Me and my partner travelled to the beautiful El Hierro mainly to sample the highly rated diving at La Restinga. We made early contact with Carlos at Arrecifal and from the first moment he couldn't do enough to help us. The diving itself was amazing, and Carlos leading was constantly finding and pointing out sea life and taking us to some incredible underwater scenery. He tailored the dives to suit our experience levels (novice and advanced) and was always on hand throughout our stay to offer advice and made us feel totally welcome. He arranged a great apartment for us to stay at and met us on the first day to show us around (introducing us to the friendliest of locals!). Everyone at the dive school were great, really friendly and professional and made us feel really welcome. Cant wait to go back, been diving before, but this trip got me hooked!
